STORY BEGINS HERE.
As soon as I had heard that James' parents had passed away, I just knew that something was going to happen. His parents were good people and were in fairly good health for their age, which was the same as mine. A car accident had taken them too soon from our community. It's too bad that their son wasn't like them. Especially, after he went out to California.
James was the ex-boyfriend of my son's wife Chloe. I like Chloe. She wasn't afraid of hard work and getting her hands dirty. When my son Sean met her, she was a grade school teacher, who worked as a landscaper during the summer months.
One of my husband Mitch's favorite stories to tell people, is about the first time Sean laid eyes on Chloe. He was literally speechless. Chloe was talking about what they were going to do, but all Sean could do was stare at her with his mouth open. Mitch had to literally throw a rag into his face, to get him to snap out of it. It was love at first sight for my son.
When he asked Chloe to marry him at Christmas, I decided that it was time to look into her past. She did well in college. Graduating near the top of her class. She had her "wild year," her junior year of college. She had sown some oats, which is fine. She didn't have the best taste in men with some of those flings. It was James who caught my attention though.
He had been her high school love. He decided to end things with her after graduation, and go to college at UCLA. Once he got out to California, he fell in with a bad crowd. He had been arrested twice for misdemeanor gambling, twice for petty theft, and once for misdemeanor cocaine possession. Because of California's liberal government and laws, he never saw any jail time. He was always given a fine and probation.
I have always handled the business side of my husband and I's construction company, far better than he ever did. Mitch was always pleasant and warm to everybody. He didn't know how to play the political game and didn't want to. My mother was a city auditor, and my father was a city councilman and longtime city council president. I grew up around it. I understood how to use it to your advantage.
From the moment James landed, I had him followed. His parents house, the store, the funeral home, anywhere he went, one of my guys was on him. He didn't go anywhere or do anything that was out of the ordinary for a person, burying his parents, until the funeral dinner.
I was in my office, talking to my son Sean on the phone. He was angry that he couldn't go to the service with Chloe. Looking back on it now, I should've let him go, but we had an opportunity to land a twenty-five million dollar contract. The board of the company offering the contract wanted to speak to Sean personally. It was the only day they had available as well.
I saw my cell phone light up and noticed it was one of my guys tailing James, calling me. I put my son on hold and answered it. He told me that James had just met with a drug dealer named "Skinny Pete." I told them to pick up Pete and find out what he had given him. I waited over an hour before; I heard back from them. By that time it was going on the end of the three o'clock workday.
When my cell rang again, I answered it immediately.
"What took so damn long?" I replied gruffly.
"Skinny Pete is a like a cockroach. He's fast and can squeeze into tight spaces. It took us a bit to catch him."
"What did he buy?"
"X. He bought ecstasy." my guy replied.
"That son of a bitch!" was all I got out.
"Meredith. Chloe just ran out to her car and she's crying. If you or we were going to do something, it's too late."
"As soon as she leaves, I want you to bring his ass to me." I said.
"Where do you want to meet then boss?"
"I feel like a fresh steak dinner. Let's meet there in an hour." I replied and hung up the phone.
I got up and grabbed my coat from the rack, and told my secretary to have Sasha come pick me up immediately, and it's not a request. She looked at me with her eyebrows raised, as she picked up the phone. I waited at the backdoor of the building for fifteen minutes, before Sasha arrived in her car.
"Who stuck a bee in your bonnet boss?" she asked me, as I got in.
"I need to cut me a steak dinner right now. Let's go." I replied.
As she peeled away, my phone rang again.
"Boss. Chloe made a brief phone call then left. We're on the way to the restaurant." my guy said and then hung up.
I immediately pulled out my laptop and fired it up. Most people do not realize that you can listen to voicemails and any conversation at all, from a cell phone or landline, on your laptop. Without thinking, I pulled up Chloe's last conversation and played it. After hearing Chloe confess to her best friend Stephanie; I slammed my laptop closed in anger and hurt.
Neither Sasha nor I, said a word, after I slammed my laptop closed. My head was spinning. I was angry at Chloe. I was angry at James, and knew that I was going to make him pay. I was hurting for my son. I couldn't imagine the pain that he was going to go through, when he heard that brief phone call.
I could see Sasha looking over at me out of the corner of her eye sometimes on the drive there. I could tell that she wanted to say or ask something. Normally she always said what was on her mind, but this was different. The air felt as tense as I could ever remember. We were almost there, when I finally broke the silence.
"Just ask whatever it is your wondering Sasha."
I watched Sasha take a breath in and reply.
"Who's gonna do it?"
"I am."
"Oh come on. It's been months since I got to have some fun with some asshole."
"Well, this asshole might've just ruined my son's marriage. I'm doing this one personally. Understand?"
"Yeah, I understand."
We pulled into the driveway of a farmhouse that we owned, drove around, and pulled into the big cattle barn. My guys had pulled in from the other side and we met them halfway inside, with the vehicles about ten feet apart. Sasha and I got out. I looked over to my left and saw that they had him strung up in one of the empty stalls blindfolded.
"What did say when you grabbed him?" I asked.
"He just kept asking who we are or who we work for."
"How much damage did you have to do, to string him up?" I asked nobody in particular.
"None really. Punch to the gut. I just put him to sleep right before you pulled in."
"What are you going to do?" Sasha asked me.
I didn't answer her.
"You got everything ready?" I asked my head enforcer.
"Yep."
Upon hearing that, I walked over and grabbed the bucket of water off the barrel. James woke up with a gasp, while the cold water was poured over his head. I threw the bucket down after it was emptied and slapped him in the face.
"Tell me about Chloe."
"I don't know a Chloe."
I held my hand out, and Sasha handed me a taser. Holding it up to his face I asked him again.
"Tell me about Chloe."
"She's nobody. Just a woman that I hooked up with."
Deciding to throw him off as to who I was, I asked him about his gambling.
"You have gambling debts. Perhaps my friends here so go visit your girlfriend."
"She's not my girlfriend. She's married to some meathead construction guy."
Hearing this clown talk like that about my son angered me, so I hauled back and punched him right in the nose. Hearing his nose crunch upon impact, made me smile.
"A degenerate gambler and a slimeball who preys on married women."
"Look, I'll get you your money. Please don't kill me." he said and started crying.
"Man up you pussy. I've had women who didn't cry as easily as you did. You disgust me."
I guess my words struck a nerve, because he became bold.
"You won't kill me, you cowardly bitch. You ain't got the balls. That's why you had your guys here do all the dirty work."
"Where's the X James?"
"I don't have any X."
I shocked him again. Smiling as he stiffened up and groaned in pain.
"Where are the drugs James?" I yelled.
"I don't have any drugs."
"Skinny Pete squealed already James. Now tell me where the drugs are."
"I already used them." he said.
I shocked him again. I do like making bad people squeal.
"Fuck you bitch!" he screamed.
I told one of the guys to hold his head back, and told Sasha to hand me two lemon slices.
"I told you already. I have no drugs. I gave them to Chole." James said with his head held back.
"Why would you give her the drugs?"
"I'm not proud of this, but I needed to get some pussy, so I crushed them up and put them in her drinks."
"So you're a rapist too."
"Look she was asking for it. She came to my parents funeral all alone. Without her husband, knowing our history. She wanted it just as badly as I did. She came all over my....."
I shocked him with the stun gun again. As he groaned in pain, so did my guy that was holding his head. I pulled the taser away, and my guy fell backwards into the barn wall.
"Help him up and get him out to the cars. Sasha, strip this sack of shit of his clothes."
My guy was helped away and Sasha stripped him bare. As soon as his boxers came down, Sasha started laughing. It looked like a small purple thimble. Less than half the size of my pinkie finger.
"I thought about chopping your dick off, but you don't have much of one anyway." I told him.
"You can barely even see it." Sasha said laughing.
"I'm gonna kill...." was all he got out.
Sasha kicked him in the stomach. The sound of all the air leaving his body made me smile again. I shot a look at her. She smiled as she handed me the two lemon slices and then held James' head in both hands. I shoved the slices of lemons up his nose, and listen to him howl in pain. The acid in the lemons doing their work.
"I got..... two grand in cash.... back at my place..... you can have it." James said crying.
"Alright James....." he responded before I could finish.
"You're a smart woman. A dead man can't pay back his debts. I'll get you the rest of the money, as soon as my parents estate is settle."
"James. That meathead construction guy, is my son." I said smiling at him.
"Oh god. I didn't mean it. Any of it. I swear to God. I'll leave tonight and never come back. I'll leave right now."
"James, James, James. That's not how this works. You have besmirched our family name. My son is ten times that man you could ever be."
"He's definitely bigger than in the cock department." Sasha smirked out loud.
I looked at her with a curiosity of how she knows that. Seeing the look and the simmer start, she quickly replied.
"Women talk boss."
Accepting her reply, because I we all know that women never keep their mouths shut about anything, I moved on.
"How should I finish him Sasha?"
"Oh god please help me, please, please, please." James said as he sob loudly.
"James. Grow a set of balls in your final moments, and shut the hell up, before I make it a long and painful death." I said getting angry at the spineless coward.
"I think it should be a slow and painful death. I vote for the woodchipper." Sasha said smiling.
"Our father who art in heaven....."
Hearing him sobbing and praying, I lost it. I simply pulled out my Glock 26 and shot him in the head.
Sasha and I stared at his body hanging limp and lifeless for a bit of time. I felt a weight lift off my shoulders, but I also felt some pain. James had such wonderful parents; it was such a shame that he turned into what he end up being.
"Well boss. What are you going to do about what you know?"
I walked over and leaned up against a beam of the stall and thought for a bit. I watched Sasha cut James down and holler for help. Two guys came in and grabbed him by the wrists and ankles.
"Field dress him, put him the wood chipper, then take him over Layman's." Sasha ordered.
I smiled as I watched the scene play out. Saving her life, was one of the best decisions I made.
Sasha then came and leaned the beam across from me.
"Now what?" she asked.
I took a deep breath in and out.
"Nothing. Nothing at all."
"What you mean boss? You can't sit on something like this."
"Chloe didn't deserve to be drugged. However, he did make some good points."
Sasha narrowed her eyes. "What do you mean?"
"Chloe could've left after the funeral service. Chloe could've left after having a plate at the celebration of life dinner. Chloe didn't have to drink any alcohol at all, and she shouldn't have since she was driving anyhow."
"That's cold. Even for you boss."
"No, it's simply facts. There were many chances for her, not to put herself in a place where something like this could even happen. Besides, I must also carry a portion of the blame here. I could've postponed the meeting for a few hours. Long enough for Sean to have taken and protected her."
Sasha stared at me for a few moments before taking a breath in and out.
"I can understand where you're coming from. As much as I liked my ex's parents, I didn't go to their funerals."
"It's all over and done with. The only thing I'm worried about now, is my son and what's he's going to do. I'll support him no matter what."
"I know you will boss. Now what about the two thousand dollars in cash James has stashed back at his parents place?"
"I know just how to put it to good use." I said smiling.
I pulled out my phone.
"Eric, how are the wife and kids."
I spent a few minutes listening to him talk about his wife's' test results, his son's football team, and his little girl winning first place at a gymnastics meet; he finally got around to asking why I was calling.
"You're still in charge of the police departments kids roller hockey league, right?"
After hearing him confirm that he was, I continued.
"Today or tomorrow, I'll be having somebody drop off a two thousand dollar donation."
"Well thank you Meredith. That's wonderful. The department has made cuts, and I wasn't sure if we'd be able to sponsor the league this year."
"Always happy to help our local law enforcement and children in our community." I replied.
"Happy to hear that Meredith. Now, which lovely stalwart of society will no longer be causing problems for our lovely city?" he said with a laugh.
