A Dark Future Ch. 19

Robert steps out of the office, determined to get a handle on the Megan situation. Going straight up the stairs, he finds her standing in the bunk bed room, staring at the wall.

"Hello Megan." He says. "You doing ok?"

She jumps a bit at the noise, and turns quickly, looking almost panicked. Seeing Robert, she swallows hard, and quietly says. "No."

"I think you and I should talk." Robert says. "Do you mind going for a walk with me? I could use an opportunity to stretch my legs."

Megan nods, and says. "I need a jacket, and some warmer pants."

"You can borrow some of mine." Robert says, and leads her to his closet, helping her pick out some warm gear. "Before we go outside, I need to tell you a few things. First, one of the new BAA rules is that you have to wear a collar, and have your card on you, when you leave the house. We have some temporary ones downstairs we can use for now, but eventually I'd like to get you all some that are comfortable, like I was able to get for Lucia and Alexia."

"Can't I just use theirs?" Megan asks.

"I don't think you are in a position to ask either of them for a favor right now." Robert replies honestly. "They are also sized for them, and engraved with their information. We won't be out that long, and I won't put it on tightly."

Robert grimaces, and continues. "The other thing I want you to know before we step outside is that if you run, I'm legally required to report it, and I lose all say in what happens to you. The punishment for running away starts with a mandatory 90 day stay in a labor camp, and can also include corporal punishment. If you act up there, you could have that 90 days extended, and there is a decent chance you will be kept there permanently. I need you to promise me that you aren't going to run and that you aren't going to talk to anyone except me without my permission."

"I promise." Megan says, looking down at the floor.

"I'd appreciate it if you could look at me, and say that again." Robert says. "Eye contact during conversations like this is very important to me."

Megan looks up at him, and he thinks he sees just the faintest touch of anger in her face before she smiles and says. "I promise."

Robert nods, and they make their way downstairs. "We are headed out for a walk." Robert says. "We'll be back in thirty minutes or so."

Grabbing one of the temporary collars near the door, he secures it loosely on Megan, and opens the door. "Ladies first."

Jane sighs as the door shuts, and says. "Who wants a quick tour of the house?"

Mei, Taylor, and Emily immediately say yes.

Reyna hesitates and asks. "Should I follow them? I'm not interested in losing Robert when I just found him."

"Robert will be fine." Jane says. "I know he looks like an out of shape middle aged office worker, but before he became that, he was a prison guard for a few years."

"Really?" Lucia asks, looking surprised.

"He took whatever job paid the bills when he was younger." Jane says. "Ask him about it some day. Between working two jobs at once half of the time, and being laid off repeatedly, he got a lot of varied experience his first few years after graduating high school."

"If you are sure he will be ok, I'd like to do the tour also." Reyna says.

"Amber, do you want to invite Lindsey to join us, if she is up?" Jane asks.

Amber heads upstairs, coming back with Lindsey. Jane walks the new girls through the downstairs first, explaining to them to knock and wait for permission before entering her or Robert's office, or their bedroom when the door is closed. After giving the upstairs tour, Emily asks. "So we are all sleeping in the room with the bunk beds?"

"Some days." Jane says. "If you wish to sleep in one of those every night, you certainly can. We may invite some of you to join us in the master bedroom at times, and there may be other days I want to snuggle with Alexia in the second bedroom, and Robert may ask a few of you to join him. He is a cuddle monster though, so if that's not your thing, make sure to bring someone else who can keep him busy."

Reyna asks. "So I just want to make sure I have this right. You and Robert are married, and Lucia is his primary girlfriend, and Alexia is your primary girlfriend? What about Amber?"

Jane laughs. "You were busy with Robert, so you missed the explanations earlier. Robert and I have been married for about twelve years. Alexia is my special girl, but she also plays with Robert just as often as me, and sometimes with both of us together. Lucia is all about Robert, and that's fine. Lindsey looks both uncomfortable, and sad, hearing about this. "Ladies, feel free to explore anywhere except the two primary bedrooms. If you want to explore those, ask Lucia or Alexia to go with you. Lindsey, do you mind if you and I talk?"

Lindsey shakes her head, and Jane leads her to the double recliner in the hangout room, and closes the door. "Are you ok?" Jane asks. "I mean, as ok as you can reasonably be expected to be."

Lindsey swallows hard, and says. "I don't know. You guys are great, but I really miss my husband."

"If there is anything I can do to help, please tell me." Jane says. "I don't think I would survive without Robert after all these years together. I can't say I know what you are going through, but I can imagine it, and that's bad enough."

"Thank you." Lindsey says. "Are you a hugger?"

"I can leave it or take it, but if you need one, I'm happy to." Jane says, leaning over and embracing her. "Robert is the real hugger, and if you ever build a friendship with him, I'm sure he would be happy to make sure you are thoroughly hugged daily, platonically, of course."

Lindsey cries into her shoulder for a bit while Jane soothes her. "I'm sorry. I know this isn't what you need right now."

"It's what you need." Jane says. "Everyone in this house is a human being, and deserves to be treated decently."

Robert and Megan are silent until they hit the sidewalk outside of the house. "Why don't you tell me about what happened earlier?" Robert asks.

"What?" Megan asks innocently, acting like she doesn't know what Robert is talking about.

Robert stops walking for a moment. "This isn't going to work unless you are honest with me. Several of the girls apparently had interactions with you that didn't go well. I need you to tell me what happened, from your point of view, and why it happened." He says, and adds. "Please, do not lie to me."

"Today has been a bit of a blur." Megan begins. "Can I start at the beginning of the day?"

"You may." Robert says, and then begins walking again.

"We got led into that room without even knowing why we were there. It wasn't until you and Jane showed up that we figured out that it was an auction." Megan explains. "If you are overwhelmed in the future, you have to have some sort of signal to let us know." Robert says. "Then we can give you space to decompress. Shutting down or snapping just makes things worse."

"I understand." Megan says. "I'm sorry."

"What about the Mei thing?" Robert says. "I saw her shoulder, she must have hit the wall with some force."

"I didn't mean to, we bumped into each other while I was rushing into the shower." Megan says. "Total accident."

Robert sighs. "I've heard it looked intentional."

"I promise, it was an accident." Megan says, trying and failing to sound sweet and innocent. "I'm sorry."

"Megan, do you actually want to be here? Or would you rather go back to the auction? I can't set you free." Robert says. "So here, another household, or a work camp are the only options I can give you."

"Please, don't send me back." Megan says. "I can't live with those guys."

"Then you need to make the best of this." Robert says. "What happened earlier today can't happen again. Everyone in my house needs to feel safe, comfortable, and happy. If one person causes problems for everyone else, eventually they will have to go. Do you understand?"

"Yes." Megan says.

"So when we get back, how are you going to attempt to start repairing the bad first impression you have made on the other ladies in the house?" Robert asks.

"I can be nicer to them." Megan says. "And if you want, I can do things for you tonight."

"That's not happening." Robert says bluntly. "I need to see you interacting well with everyone in the house before I can even consider allowing you into my bed. I know you have had a bad day, so I'll be blunt. When we get back, you are going to ask Jane and Mei to speak to them privately. You are going to apologize to both of them. I'm going to be there to make sure I'm happy with the apologies. Can you do that?"

"Yes." Megan says.

"Good." Robert says. "After that, you are going to be nicer, not just tonight, but every day, from now on. If you are having a bad day, you let us know, and we will give you some time. Believe it or not, you didn't have the worst day out of everyone in the house. Lindsey lost her husband after all."

"I didn't know that." Megan says, a bit defensively. "I'll do better."

They reach the end of the neighborhood, and start back, Robert noticing a few neighbors staring at them as they do. "A few more things. You will do EXACTLY what Jane says. And what Lucia, Alexia, and Amber say too. You will obey them as if I was saying it, do you understand?"

"Yes, sir." Megan says, looking at the pavement as she walks.

"If we continue to have issues, I won't be the one having this conversation with you. It'll be Jane, Lucia, Alexia, and Amber deciding whether or not to give you another chance." Robert explains. "And I'll back their decision, no matter what it is."

"Ok." Megan says, and Robert is torn between feeling bad for her, and frustrated with her.

"Is there anything you want to ask me?" Robert asks, trying to get her open up.

She shakes her head no, and they walk back to the house in an awkward silence.

Coming into the house, Robert says. "Why don't you go ask them to talk, and then bring them back to Jane's office? I'll be waiting there."

He waits near the door, and a few minutes later, Jane and Mei come back with Megan. Jane lifts her eyebrows at him, and after Megan walks by, he shrugs, as if to say 'I tried.'

Once everyone is in the office, an awkward silence falls as Megan stares at the ground. "Go ahead and start, Megan." Robert prompts gently.

"I'm sorry for being rude earlier." Megan says, not looking up. "And for bumping into you."

"Megan, you aren't apologizing to the floor." Robert says. "Please look at them, and apologize to each of them separately."

She raises her head, and looks at Jane. "Jane, I would like to apologize for earlier. I was out of line."

"Thank you, Megan." Jane says.

Shifting her gaze to Mei, Megan says. "I'm sorry for bumping into you earlier. It wasn't intentional. I just really wanted to shower."

"Ok." Mei says, clearly not quite ready to forgive. "Please don't do it again."

"Ladies." Robert says. "I'd like to ask that we try to put the past few hours behind us, and start over. Can both of you do that?"

"Yes, Robert." Mei says. "I'll do my best."

"Megan?" Robert asks.

"I can. I'm sorry." Megan says.

"Mei, how is your shoulder?" Robert asks.

"The redness went away, it's just a tiny bit sore." Mei says. "I'll be fine."

"Good." Robert says. "Megan, Mei, you are free to go."

As they both walk out of the room, Robert notices that they aren't actually comfortable being close to each other.

"Well, that didn't quite go as well as I hoped." Robert says. "She made a lot of excuses for her behavior, and kept insisting she would do better."

"Maybe a night's sleep will help." Jane says. "Speaking of sleep, Mei is going to be with us tonight. I hope you've got a little left in the tank after Reyna and Taylor."

"I'm sure I'll manage." Robert says. "I really need to get into shape though."

"I suspect these girls are going to get you into shape whether you want to or not." Jane laughs. "Reyna on her own might."

"Probably." Robert says. "You said she's joining us. She's ok with you being there?"

"She asked me to be there." Jane says, smiling.

"Aww.." Robert says. "That's so sweet of her." He gives Jane a hug, and then kisses her deeply.

"It was." Jane says, looking very happy. "I love it when the girls actually want to involve me."

"I can try to encourage it a little more." Robert says.

"No, it needs to be natural." Jane says. "So tomorrow we need to pick up their things from their old places. I'm thinking I'll take the van, and have Mei, Taylor, Lindsey, and Emily with me, and you can take the car with Reyna and Megan."

"Good idea." Robert says. "What stuff did you want me to have them get?"

"Clothes mainly, and some keepsakes." Jane says. "Realistically, we can afford maybe two boxes of clothes, and one of miscellaneous stuff. After that we don't have the storage for more."

"And books." Robert says. "If they have them, I can make room for them in my office, or I can put them in the attic."

"That's fair. I know you wouldn't like abandoning your books." Jane says, smiling at him.

"Let's go over it with them all at dinner." Robert says. "Is there anything else we need to talk to them all about today?"

"I wanted to talk to them a bit about sleeping arrangements, and go over a few things that Reyna missed." Jane says. "It probably wouldn't hurt to have you there. First, we need to talk to Amber though. She's beginning to feel left out. I told her we would talk tomorrow, but sooner is better."

"It's only been a few days." Robert says. "I don't want her to feel left out, but I think it's still too soon. I want to be sure she is recovered mentally, physically, and emotionally before she makes a decision like this."

"Is that for her though, or because you are afraid you will get attached, and then she will leave?" Jane asks.

"Some of both." Robert admits. "But I also don't want to feel like I'm taking advantage of a traumatized girl."

"Then let's set some benchmarks for her." Jane says. "Something concrete she can work towards. Maybe a weight goal for the physical? And we ask her to agree to meet with one of us to talk about her past, and try to process it a bit?"

"I can work with that." Robert says. "I'd like to ease her into things though, it'll give her more time to change her mind if she decides she doesn't want to continue down this path."

"I'll go get her." Jane says. "I want to hear what she has to say before we make a final decision."

Jane finds Amber upstairs starting laundry. She helps her gather the girl's clothes, making a note to buy more laundry baskets tomorrow, before asking her "Would you like to talk to Robert now? He's waiting in my office."

"I'd also like to see you put on a few pounds." Jane says. "Maybe we can go weigh you in a few minutes, and set a few goal weights for you. When you get to them, and bond with Robert, you will be rewarded with fewer limits on what you can do to serve Robert. Does that sound fair?"

"That's true." Mei says, hiding her face in Robert's chest. "Can I talk to you both about something? I get a bit nervous, so if you don't like what I'm saying, please tell me, and I'll be quiet."

"You can talk to us about anything." Robert says. "Is this about what you mentioned earlier?"

"Yes." Mei says, letting her face cover her hair so Jane can't see her, and starting to tell Jane what she had previously told Robert. Halfway through, Jane moved her hair, and leaned in to give her a kiss and a reassuring smile, before letting her continue.

"I can't say what our reaction would have been." Jane says. "It would have put me in an awkward situation. I'm glad you are here now though." Jane kisses Mei again.

"Thank you." Mei says with a shy smile. "I was also wondering if I could call you something different than Master and Mistress?"

"That depends on what it is." Jane says. "And why. Why don't we start with the why?"

"I think Mei would have been this way her first time with Robert no matter when it happened." Jane says with a smile. "Turns out she's been hoping for this for a while."

"It is." Lucia says. "Are they coming down soon?"

"I think they need a minute." Jane says. "But I'm sure they will be soon."

"So... How is this going to work?" Reyna asks. "Do you normally have designated nights? Or is it a free for all? Does he decide?"

"That's something we are going to have to discuss." Jane says. "Before I usually decided, unless Robert had a strong preference."

"I don't mean to put you on the spot." Reyna says. "But I've got needs, and I don't want to get to the point of feeling desperate again."

"So that's something we should probably discuss when Robert and Mei come down." Jane says. "After all, Robert should have input on who is in his bed."

"Of course." Reyna says. "If he isn't interested in me, I can find a toy or something."

"Or something." Taylor says, giving her a smile.

Reyna blushes, and Jane laughs. They hear footsteps on the stairs, and Jane looks around, noticing that Lindsey, Megan, and Alexia are missing. "Amber, can you go get Megan and Alexia? If Lindsey asks, you can let her know that she will likely want to skip this discussion."

Robert and Mei make it downstairs, and Lucia goes up to give her a hug, whispering something as she does. Mei smiles and nods. "We are going to start dinner, if that is ok Jane."

"That's fine, we can always do the talk at the breakfast table. Can a few of you grab some chairs from my office?" Jane asks.

A few minutes later, everyone other than Mei and Lucia are seated, and Jane begins. "So now that we have 9 women in the house, we need a plan for how to share Robert's time. We don't want anyone feeling neglected, and I also don't want to put this on you, Robert. We don't necessarily need a perfect solution, just something that will work for now. We can always change it up later."

Jane takes a moment, and continues. "First we need to establish ground rules. Not all of you are open to risking pregnancy, and to be frank, not all of you have my permission to have sex with Robert yet. "I'll work up a schedule over the next day or two. If you don't want to be on the schedule, or are unsure, please come talk to me immediately after this." Jane says. "Does anyone else have questions about that before we move on to something else?"

Emily runs upstairs, and returns a moment later with Lindsey. "Ok, so next we need to talk about assignments. As you know, you will each be reporting to either Lucia, Alexia, or Amber. This isn't a permanent assignment, we can swap around a bit as we all get to know each other. A few of you are obvious assignments, but I'm not quite as sure where to place others of you."

"Mei is obviously with me." Lucia says. "Is there anyone else who can cook?"

"I can." Lindsey says. "At least a bit. And I can help you prep and clean up."

"Ok, that's great." Jane says. "Amber, I'd like you to take Reyna and Megan."

"Of course." Jane says, and scans the room to see if anyone else needs to talk. "If there are no other questions, please get with your team leaders to go over chore assignments. Amber, if you could wait until we are done talking to Megan."

Grabbing her chair, she walks back to her office, followed by Robert and Megan each carrying a chair. After they all get seated, Jane starts. "So, what do we do with you as far as the schedule goes? It sounds like you want to be on the schedule?"

"Yes." Megan says.

"I want to see a major attitude shift from you before I'm comfortable letting you into our bed." Jane says. "And when I do, I plan to be there, until I am comfortable."

It may not seem like it, but I'm truly hoping you wake up tomorrow, and choose to make the best of this. We bid on you for a reason, after all. We could just as easily have come home with five girls."

"This may not be the time, but I have some questions for you." Robert says.

"It's as good of a time as any." Jane says.

"I hope so." Jane says. "Amber, Lucia, and Alexia all have a huge say in you staying here. If they don't think you are going to work out, we are going to have a problem."

"I understand." Megan says. "I promise, I will try harder. And I'll dye my hair back as soon as you get the dye."

"We can pick it up tomorrow after we get your things." Robert says. "Thank you for being honest with us."

Megan just nods, and Jane says. "Why don't you go check in with Amber to see what chores she has for you? And please let Emily know that we are ready to talk to her, if Alexia is done with her."

A few moments later Emily walks in. "Please, take a seat." Jane says, motioning at the chair next to Robert. Emily does, and Jane asks. "So what did you want to talk about?"

"I didn't know if I should have a night." Emily says hesitantly.

"Do you want a night?" Jane asks. "Or are you saying you want to wait?"

"I do want one." Emily says. "But you said that we'd need to ease into things, so I wasn't sure if that would be a problem..."

"Do you want Amber or Alexia to help with the schedule?" Robert asks.

"I'll have all three of the lead girls sit down with me to go over it soon." Jane says. "But for now, I think I'll do it myself."
