Chapter Two:

I needed Jeanne so bad as Christmas morning loomed, sleeping in, coffee and rolls in the morning, a walk around Capitol Hill, it was Seattle's LGBTQ district, not exclusively, it's where my great grandfather and great great grandfather and grandmother lived and Daddy said there were queers and lesbians then in the 60s and 70s. My trusty Trooper took me to coach Steven's home which was just behind University shopping center. Older brick home with a steep pitched, tile roof, rhododendrons and azaleas everywhere. Lilac trees, camelia trees made me feel her soul, it was so Seattle, yet grounded and beautiful.

I was about to open the door and it was opened by this really tall women, strikingly beautiful. I said, "You're Dora Zelensky, Hailey Bigs' wife, right?"

I reached out to shake her hand, as she turned and there was the famous Hailey Bigs, Jimmy Fallon shortened her name from Hailey Bigelow, famously from the tiny school of Two Rivers in North Bend and then MIT and their marriage, they had kids and if Dora was striking, Hailey was stunningly beautiful, she had a baby boy on her hip.

It was hard to look at her where was Jeanne right now. Her wife was right in front of me ready to pulverize me. I thought of Kate which settled me and I said, "It is so nice to meet you both, you're literally the most beautiful queer couple in the world. Tears, came unbidden at the love filled scene. Hailey turned her head quizzically raising her eye brows.

I sighed, "It's overwhelming to meet you both, you are both stunningly beautiful and famous and two beautiful kids, " I paused, "and I'm coming out to my family tomorrow, I'm in a strong relationship and my partner has three daughters and seeing you, I really want to be a mother too and I'm scared. I love her so much. I found her after some terrible relationships and she's with her family and my family's a mess and I'm not scared, I'm terrified. I have all this NIL money and I won my first tournament. I want to marry her, play tennis and have babies. I'm Catholic. I'm sorry."

I started to hyperventilate and started to fall, and they both were holding me and saying together, "Deep breaths, slow down, you're okay and finally I was."

Coach was there she had my arm and said, "We got you hon, "and I leaned into her and wailed.

That caused me to start giggling and I was okay. Good thing I didn't wear any makeup. Hailey had her daughter in her arms and reached out with a hanky and was wiping tears off my cheeks.

Everybody laughed Coach hugged me and I came in for what turned into one of the most important nights of my life, so far any way.

Stories about when they came out and always the admonition to be myself, Coach was divorced from her first wife, but had met a Latina chef from Lima, Peru, Maria Isobela who made us this incredible fish stew and sushi. She said she was from Incan roots and Japanese and coach was enthralled with her.

"Coach do you mind if I facetime Jeanne and everybody say hi, I'd like to sort of pre-propose to her?"

She looked around the room and everybody nodded in the affirmative, so I did:

Jeanne connected immediately and I said, "Hi baby, I love you. Hey I'm at Coach's home with her partner and some wonderful new friends that I'd like you to meet, Okay?" Coach ran over and synched up my phone to her 84 inch television.

Jeane said, "Sure honey, "which made everyone sigh.

I said to everyone, "I told you she's gorgeous, "which caused everyone to smile.

Jeanne said, "Hi ladies!"

A chorus of heys and hellos ensued.

She said, "How about a June wedding?"

The whole room erupted.

She said, "I told my ex and my daughters that you are the love of my life. They are coming home to meet you in January, my daughters are that is. We need to buy a home with room for a nursery."

I nodded and asked her, "Do you have brothers or uncles with your genes so our children will be from our families?"

She laughed and said, "Yes you'll have your choice, but it will be my uncle, because he is handsome, tall and a great guy. He's also five years younger than me."

She said, "Are you going to let him, umm you know the old fashioned way?"

My face started to crumble and I said, "If you'll be with me, I'll do anything for you."

Dora said, "We've used this incredible doctor and she shortcuts the mess and it's at our home and nobody touched Hailey but me and her."

I looked at Jeanne, pleading with my eyes.

She said, "Thank you Dora, Teri, has at least two college and pro seasons before we have kids, right coach, honey."

Both of us nodded yes.

Jeanne said, "Tell everyone about Kate, I have to go now, eggnog time, tomorrow I'm with you and call in the afternoon, sweetness."

Then I told them about Kate and her husband, Dora was biting her lip when I was being detailed about the night with Kate and him reclaiming her. I probably went too far, so I stood up and started picking up glasses and I was bringing them to the kitchen and rinsing them off.
