Ultimate Power Ch. 02

I kissed dad as I walked out sensing the car in the driveway. Strange, I couldn't see at all, though I could sense everything that was around me.

As I said, it was like a blue mist that almost spoke to me about what was there. It wasn't actually seeing, but it was damn close.

At the airport, I thought that I hadn't scrubbed a few minds when I had the father get on board. He actually walked past me and sat. I thought he would change the flight plan, but he was going where I was.

I released the breath I had been holding as the jet taxied, and we were airborne. I didn't talk to the father, and he didn't talk to me. I actually preferred it that way. Still, I was half expecting him to talk.

Even when we landed, I got nothing from him, good.

As I hoped, there was a car waiting for me. I quickly got set up in the hotel. I then reached out to find the one I was after.

Unfortunately, I wasn't close enough, though I thought that this power had grown. Still, I got a general feeling of where and what she was doing.

I then frowned as I saw that the security was a bit tougher than before. This was going to take some definite more thoughtful planning.

I sat to begin planning, the more I saw, the more I could see that this wasn't as easy. I almost felt as if she had been warned about me and was waiting.

I tried to enter her thoughts though, as I was afraid, I wasn't getting further than surface thoughts. I had started to withdraw when I felt another presence.

It wasn't that strong and really wasn't intrusive, though it was a worry. Then it was like it suddenly 'noticed' me. At that moment, it turned aggressive, which caused me to panic.

When the other started to reach for me, I panicked even more. I started to push it away as it got even more aggressive. Now I was really panicked, I started to push.

Why I suddenly felt concern as it was pushed away, then it came at me, I guess, full force. Now I was getting even more concerned as I reached back to smack it away.

I swore that a great distance away I felt a scream, then nothing. I withdrew as fast as I could, thinking I might be in trouble.

More than a few hundred miles away, another female fell forward in the chair she was strapped to. A slight trickle of blood ran from her mouth. A tall thin man looked on concerned.

"What the hell happened?" he asked.

"It appears that she went against another that was just as strong, perhaps more. It also appears that her soft probe was rebuffed, so without orders she tried a hard probe. The other pushed back far harder, what you see is the result," a tech with a lab coat said.

"Is she damaged?" the thin man said.

"At this point, I'm not sure. Her Beta and Deltas waves have flat-lined, so perhaps. Her Alpha waves are at a minimum. I'll have to confirm. Might want to avoid this one for now," the tech said.

"Avoid? If anything, we need to get her on the team. Find out what you can, especially a location," the tall, thin man said.

"Uh, that's the thing," the tech said. "From what we got from them; they were all natural. I got no mechanical energy at all. If anything? They are almost completely hidden," the tech said.

"Shit," the tall man said low. "Are they a rogue from us or the other three countries?"

The tech looked over a couple of screens, then shook his head no. "I have a lock on all of them, it isn't one of them."

The tall man shook his head, "Double fuck, we have a free, unknown with natural power. Damnit, the committee is going to have a field day with our assess." Picking up a receiver, the man punched a few numbers. "Sir, we have a natural. Yes sir, no mechanical at all. Not as of yet, though I expect they will soon. Yes sir, I'll alert the elimination team now."

"They want them dead, I take it?" the tech said.

The tall man nodded, then said, "As soon as possible, without exception. The sooner, the better, we also need to keep the council out of it.

A pair of eyes were wide for a moment when the owner of them heard this. The council had been right as the owner let to advise the council.

The tall man waited a few minutes before five soldiers showed up suddenly. "The amount of information is sketchy at best. We know where they are in general. They are a natural must definitely a rogue, so treat them as if they are."

The obvious leader, a tall muscular male, nodded. "Extreme prejudice?" he said.

"Without question, we've got a cleaner standing by. I don't have to warn you about a rogue. Also, the target took one of our best, good luck," the tall man said.

The five turned and left as fast as they had appeared. The tall man smiled, they were the best, if they couldn't do it, then they were all in trouble.

Not long after I had the run-in with the other, I guess, I decided to keep a low profile for a bit. I also decided that I needed to switch rooms as I wasn't sure if they knew where I was.

For about an hour I watched my old room, expecting almost anything. I wasn't disappointed when a large van pulled up with three getting out.

I wasn't sure, but I swear they were all heavily armed, though it was hard to tell. I tried to lightly feel how many there were when I felt something like a probe.

Scared for a moment, I fired all the electronics that I felt, seeing smoke coming out of another van in the parking lot. I called and had another car come for me.

As I was leaving, I felt another light probe, though I didn't touch this one. The first and subsequent frying of the first had been enough.

Even as we were leaving, I saw that one of the females had a mostly concealed device that had lights on it. I sighed. I was going to have to get another place to hide.

I kept watch as we got further and further away. I saw that they were going to my first room. Then they came flying out heading to my other room.

It was about that time that we were out of sight. I sighed as we sped further away, at least I was safer.

The team that had hit the hotel came up with nothing. The leader nodded his head as the motel owner couldn't recall who had been in the rooms.

The leader pulled a phone, "yeah. The target knew we were here, much more sensitive than we thought. We're going to need the sensor if she's available. Alright we'll sit." He hung up and looked at the others. "We're camping get two rooms."

As they were setting up to stay, I was on the opposite side of the small city. I also noticed that I was a little stronger, though for me not enough.

I was shaking as I thought that they had come for me. I wasn't as strong as I had thought I was. I then started to do weak things with my mind that built up resistance.

I also thought that I needed to be able to do things and not be detected as easily. So, for the next few days, I did all I could to grow stronger. I had only gotten about a third stronger when I felt what could only be a titanic power across the city.

I was shaking when, whatever it was, started to probe I can only imagine, for me. I put all I had to hide as well as I could, and for a while holding it seemed to work.

At near the end of the day that I felt an even harder and stronger push. I nearly passed out not knowing that, that had hidden me even better.

I then started to hear a voice in my head that I was sure it was, from who seemed to be after me.

I know that you can hear me. If you are still here, I will find you make no mistake about that.

That not only scared me a bit, but it also angered me. It was to the point that I lashed out, hitting the other I had heard, by surprise. I felt I was sure a female as she tried to stop me to no avail.

Then I felt her scream as she collapsed. I breathed a sigh of relief as I called another car. I knew that she knew where I was and would find me quick.

What I didn't know was she had overextended herself, passing out. Still, I bugged out as soon as the car arrived.

I was beginning to think that I might have to put this one on hold. I was in another part of the city in less than thirty minutes.

I began to think that all this trouble was because of the leader of the five and her father. I looked into his mind though finding nothing.

Damnit, I thought had I really stumbled across something that not many knew of? Problem was,.

I only had me and a few minds that could help, though I knew that the father had lost some of his credibility.

I sat for a few more hours trying to figure a way out of this. For the moment, I didn't think I could beat the female that I had felt.

Yeah, I wasn't as afraid as I thought I would be, but I was afraid. I mean, I had felt that she definitely had power, enough that I was below her.

I managed to get the father to get back on the jet as we left the small city. As we were heading back, I swore that I felt another. I had the pilot circle and knew there was another.

The pilot landed, then I carefully searched the area. A smile came to me as yes, I felt the third one. I had to make sure that I wasn't detected as easily this time.

This time I just toured around where I had felt where she was. I smiled when I saw that she was in a job not far from what the first had been doing.

I shook my head as I saw that she was set up doing practically nothing. I smiled an almost evil smile, yeah, I thought that wasn't going to last long.

I got as close as I could making things start to go wrong. As close as I was, I wasn't risking detection as easily. I had her pretty miserable when I felt her make a call.

"You said to call if a lot of shit started to go wrong. It, I think, is something or one that is screwing with reality. No, I've been watching, I haven't seen anyone. If it's the same as her, then I might have been targeted next. Yeah, I'm scared, get me the hell out of here," the woman said on the cell phone.

I saw that she obviously wasn't getting the answer that she wanted. I also thought I heard her thoughts as she only had another day. Damnit, I had to accelerate the plan.

Like the first one, after that call it was almost impossible for her to get home. I snickered when she almost couldn't get into her room. Then I really went to work on her.

I most definitely didn't let her sleep at all. I kept everything that she was afraid of, being constantly seen. As the morning started to come into being, I reached in and started to loosen what fragile hold she had on reality.

I then started to plague her with as many of the nightmares that she'd ever had. Then I made the nightmares twice as bad, then triple. An hour later she was nearly lost.

I finally started to include all the pain I had felt, then ramped it up to three times as much. Like the first one, I had her see her friends laughing as they also started to torture her. I could see that she was desperately trying to hang on as I finally had her family laugh then abandon her.

This last bit almost did it 'til her younger sister. She yelled and told her she hated her, then threw something at her. Whatever it was, it finally broke her as she descended into the depths of insanity.

I called the police as I watched from a distance as they came and took her away. As I said, I didn't want to kill them, oh no, I wanted them to be subjected to the pain and humiliation that I had from them all those years ago.

Yeah, I nodded as she screamed when they put her in a van to take her away. I decided to go with her as I had the first one whispering in her ear the whole time. This caused her to start to thrash, making them stop and sedate her.

I watched as they thrust her up into a single room. She kept looking for the tormenting voice she'd heard. Again, I started to whisper how terrible she was for torturing certain girls years ago.

I told her that they were going to come for her and let her feel the torture she had given. I let her know that there was no one that would ever come to help her. That she had to atone for all the evil she had done.

I made sure that she was more than worked up as they tried to talk to her. She seemed to grow worse and worse.

Finally, they had to keep her more sedated than lucid. When she was visited by the one from the town I had left, I tried to work on her. She almost slipped, then walked out, getting on the phone.

"I'm here, she's about gone, just like our mutual friend, yeah. She's saying about the same. Yeah she's out to get all of us, that she couldn't see her, that her family hated her," the woman said.

She listened for a few minutes, not saying anything, nodding every so often.

"Yeah, I think something is there. I heard it try to talk to me. Of course, I ignored it, no couldn't really, no sorry. I tried to place it but nothing. OK, I'm going back, yeah, they were in town. Might explain why whatever didn't go after me, ok, you do that," the woman said, then left.

I listened as she mumbled to herself about vengeful spirits. I shook my head as I also, left, going to rest in my hotel room.

It was true that I had gotten two of them though I was afraid. Though with the team I had seen complicated things, most definitely. I could see that whoever it was that was after me, that they were far better than I thought they were.

I rested for two days, not really doing much considering I now had a headache. I had been afraid that they might show up before I was finished.

I was already up and heading to the airport when I felt them arrive. I also think that the strong woman also noticed me as I felt her reach out with a far stronger probe.

I felt that she was indeed surprised when she hit the wall of my shield. Then she was pushing harder than before, more surprised when she couldn't get through.

I then heard her voice again. You really ought to give up. I am far stronger than you. Eventually you're going to make a mistake.

Everyone on the team were extremely quiet when they saw the sensor stiffen. Without even looking at them, she whispered, "they are here, though I can feel that they are finished and are leaving. I can't feel where they are, just that they are here and stronger than before. I might have trouble with the levels they have."

This shocked the leader as he nodded. If this was true, they could lose the entire squad if things got out of hand.

"See if they think that all this is pointless and want to give up," the leader said. The sensor nodded as she went back to the conversation.

I have been asked if you wish to stop, if you think that this is pointless, the female thought to me.

I wanted to answer though I knew if I did, they might have me. I thought a few moments, then made the words appear before her.

No, not pointless, not stopping, and I don't want to harm, but I will if I have to. This doesn't concern you or them. Please just leave so none of you die.

The sensor was surprised; this was a first most definitely. Almost all that she had seen seemed to be drunk on the power that they had gained. This started to give her serious though not great motivation to believe them.

For the first time since she had started, she felt a tug of doubt about what she was doing. Was this really a natural like she had been at the start?

She shook her head as the doubt started to eat away at her conscience. Why was this happening? She was a soldier, she knew when they were lying. That was the thing she KNEW that they weren't lying.

All the team were a little concerned as they watched the range of emotions play across the sensor's face. They were afraid if the woman turned on them there wasn't all that much they could do.

The leader jumped in as soon as he saw this happening. "Don't believe the lies that they are telling you, you know if they are lying."

"Yes," the woman said as she seemed to stare holes through the leader. Shit he thought, this could turn bad really quick. "I know if they are lying and they are not. They are the first to be completely honest. We should ask to break off. This one is far different from the others."

The leader stopped dead still it was as bad as he thought, he had to handle this delicately, or they were all dead. "I will contact the boss and advise him of what you have said." This seemed to placate the woman.

The leader left the room, signaling the others to watch the woman. He had to let the tall man know what was going on.

It was about how he figured when he let his boss know. "Are you sure that there is nothing that you could do to stop her?" the man asked.

"Not really, sir, that was the whole point of creating her, to be unstoppable. I've never had her say that the target was nothing but honest," the group leader said.

"Shit this is bad if we lose her, and she joins with the other, we are totally screwed. Tell her that we are taking it under advisement, the target still harmed one of our agents and needs to answer for that. Whether or not it was defensive," the tall man said.

"Sir? I am not sure that she will accept that as readily as you think. Hell, it might make things worse in the long run," the group leader said.

The group's boss stopped to think about the situation for a few more moments. "If she reacts badly, remind her that she has pledged to help not hinder."

The group leader nodded as he walked back into the hotel room. It was as the leader had thought when he told her, even when she stopped after he reminded her.

Again, emotions played across her face as everything was thought over. She then nodded as she quietly said, "For now sir, for now."

Now the group leader was truly worried. He'd never heard the woman respond as he had and hoped that it wasn't new trouble approaching.

I kept going to leave as soon as the woman disconnected her thoughts. I could tell that she couldn't quite find me. I breathed a sigh at that though I needed to grow stronger before I met them again.

I mean working on the second woman, had made me a little stronger, but not that much. No, I needed to go home and really work almost to exhaustion as I felt that was the only way I could grow.

I watched as the girl's father got on board, and we headed back. I needed to bounce a few ideas off dad, hoping that he might have a few ideas to help.

I really needed to not use anything that was of a lot of power, that way, I hoped I stayed off their radar. A few hours later we landed, and I waited 'til the father left.

Another car was awaiting me as I finally stepped out. Making my way home, I went over what I'd asked my father.

I hugged him as soon as I got in, then sat with a serious look on my face.

"Hon? Did something happen? Are you in trouble or were you hurt? I don't see anything," he said. Then he started to undress me, checking me all over.

I would normally be embarrassed by this, but for the first time it didn't bother me in the least. When he finished, I wasn't really in any hurry to get redressed either.

I then started in on what had happened the few days I had been gone. He was nodding the whole time 'til I got to the part of the military squad. Then I saw the worry that covered his features.

I noticed that he was still so distracted that he was bothered that I was still almost naked. Though he got even more worried when I told him about the woman who also had powers like me.

"Are you sure that we are safe? I love you and this house. I labored for a long time for both of you. I do not want to lose either of you," he said.

"I don't think she can feel me, especially when I don't use my power. The thing is, I could swear that she was doubting what she was doing. The things I told her seemed to shock her, though I don't know why," I told him.

He sat there taking in everything, deep in thought as I hoped that he had answers. Answers that I couldn't come up with.

"I can't really be sure, but you told her nothing but the truth, right?" he asked, which I nodded yes to. "It might be that all the others have tried to lie to her, and it was a shock. It just seems that way."

"So," I started, "She might just be confused? Great then the next time she will be out for blood."

Dad shook his head, "Maybe not, especially since she believes you. You might have impressed her, though as a part of the military I can't be sure."

I sighed, why in the hell did everything have to be so damn complicated? Then I shook my head, who was I fooling? High School had been nothing but complicated.
