It would soon be winter, and since the disasters, winter had become much harder. Adam still patrolled the perimeter of their property. He knew that government was a thing of the past, so property rights probably didn't mean much anymore, but their property surrounded their home, and their home was worth protecting. Every day, he would walk through the forest, most of which was now growing back. Sometimes he was alone, and sometimes he took Eve on his daily treks. They set traps, and he soon noticed that the animal population had rebounded right alongside the regrowth of the forest. Because of the ash, all roads had disappeared, and trees and undergrowth had grown up in the clearings that had once been roads. He could still see where the roads had run, but there was no longer any place where a person could see for any distance.
