Lee J. and Arabella find themselves in ancient Egypt, in it's Old Kingdom, during the reign of the 3rd Dynasty pharaoh Djoser. Lee's new identity is that of a guard, Manuk, the ancient Egyptian version of a policeman, that worked under the employ of the pharaoh in the city of Memphis. Lee dislikes his job because the other guards don't like him and feel that he is an outsider because of his white skin and not tan brown Egyptian skin. His only pleasure is in seducing and having sex with many different Egyptian women who give themselves to him because he is so good looking and a good lover. Lee has lovers of women among the nobility and the common folk. At Heliopolis, at the temple of the god Ra, worshiped by the pharaoh Djoser, Arabella assumes her new identity; that of Ada, a temple prostitute who only works on festival nights offering her sexual services to men who pay so that they can have magic sex with her to keep the Nile flowing and the land fertile. Since they are in ancient Egypt, it's hard for them to seek the book because there are no printed books, only papyrus scrolls. Even so, Lee and Arabella try to find the book in it's form as a leather bound book with a key. When Arabella attends a grand banquet for the pharaoh at his palace in Saqqara, and is asked to dance a sexy belly dance, the chief adviser and second in command in Egypt, Imhotep, who is a healer and sorcerer, can see through Ada and can see that she is Arabella a time traveling witch from the 1500s. He consults the god Thoth and is told during a magic ritual that Arabella wants to rule the world time and space via a magic book. Now Imhotep himself searches for the book. When he doesn't have luck finding the book, fearing he'll be stuck in ancient Egypt till death, Lee consoles himself by having an affair with the beautiful wife of one of the pharaoh's viziers. Later, Arabella, who is aware that Imhotep is a warlock, a male witch, decides to cast a spell of sex and seduces him when he invites her to his royal residence. After a dinner, they have sex in his bed and on his balcony. After the sex, Imhotep confronts Arabella and tells her he knows who she is and what she is up to. They engage in a battle of magic. Arabella is the victor and kills Imhotep. She buries him in the sand at Saqqara. One day a few weeks later, Lee J runs into Arabella when he is asked to guard the home of the pharaoh's sister Deepa who is fond of art and reading. She has a house full of painted murals and scrolls in a back room. Arabella has been asked to offer prayers and incantations so that the sister of the pharaoh Deepa who is ill can heal herself. Lee and Arabella both end up finding the magic book. They fight for it and are once again pulled into it by a strange force and resume their time travels.
