Someone from the Past Pt. 02

This is a Romance story in 3 parts, all written, which will be released to Literotica as each one is edited, so hopefully they will appear just a few days apart.

There will be some sex involved in later segments but if you are looking for something a little steamier, then, as I stated in previous parts, this might not be the tale for you.

All characters depicted as engaging in sexual activity are over 18 years of age.

As always constructive comments or criticism are welcome but please remember to enjoy it, it is just a story.

It isn't real. It's just a figment of my overactive imagination.

I hope you enjoy it.

Someone from the Past - Part 2

Chapter 5 - Revelations...

"Gwen!"

Lost in her thoughts she was so busy studying the sky that she looked around more than a little startled when the familiar voice took her completely by surprise.

Thrown by his sudden appearance, her heart started to race like a trip hammer in her chest, as she struggled to find the words to answer him.

"Rob... I... err... hi... I."Someone from the Past Pt. 02 фото

It was the first time she had spoken to him since that night after the leavers party, 5 years before, when he had told her he was going away to university and had broken her heart in the process.

Of course he hadn't known how she felt about him.

As far as she was concerned to him she was just a sad lonely girl that he had befriended at school. The fact that she was head over heels in love with him was a secret she had told no-one.

"Hello Gwen, I... I thought it was you."

As he got closer and spoke again she felt a strange sensation in the pit of her stomach and struggled to suppress the urge to hug him, unsure how she might react if he hugged her back.

"H... hello Rob... I err... I was sorry to hear about your parents. How are you?"

"Thanks, I'm guess I'm doing ok... considering everything. How about you?" Shrugging, he stopped a couple of feet in front of her, "You look fantastic by the way."

She blushed, her cheeks turning a deep red, "Thank you and like you I... I'm doing fine."

For a moment they just looked at each other, both of them at a loss as to what to say next.

"I was sorry to hear about your mother." He eventually broke the silence, returning the kindness she had shown him, "My parents told me what happened."

"Thanks." She mumbled again, "It was a blessing in the end."

"It must have been tough for you though?"

"Yes, yes it was but I managed to survive... mostly thanks to Christine and your parents."

"Christine?"

"My boss."

"Oh right." He nodded before continuing, "Mum did tell me how you'd become friends with them when I spoke to her."

The pair of them fell silent again, both obviously thinking about what to say next, the ancient history between them clearly occupying their thoughts.

"How's Ali..."

"Where are you..."

Speaking simultaneously, they both stopped mid-sentence, grinning stupidly at each other.

"After you." Rob politely offered.

"No, it's... it's ok..."

"Please. What were you going to say?"

"Thanks." Gwen smiled shyly this time, "I was just going to ask you how Alice was coping? She hasn't been in at school since..."

"She's doing ok considering everything she's been through. You know how kids are." He grinned back at her, "How about you? What are you up to now?"

"Oh, I err... I'm a teacher, I work at the school." She pointed over her shoulder in the general direction of the local school just along the street, "I've been there a couple of years now."

"That's brilliant. You enjoy it?"

"Yeah it's nice. Chris, my boss, the one I told you about, she's great."

"You don't teach Alice by any chance, do you?"

"Yes, I noticed she was back at school today but I didn't want to say anything and upset her."

Just as she said it the first drops of rain started to splatter noisily onto the concrete around them

"Damn." She continued, looking up at the darkening sky, "I'm going to get wet."

"Come over to the garage." Rob glanced up and then took her hand, starting to lead her after him, "You can wait out the shower in the dry."

"But I'll miss my bus?" Gwen objected half-heartedly, a tingle of excitement starting in her core at the simple touch of his hand.

"Where are you off to?" Ignoring her weak protest, he guided her through the doors and out of the rain.

"Umm... I was just heading into town. I err... I have an appointment this afternoon."

"Meeting your husband?"

"No, I... err... I don't have a husband. It's with a solicitor, Henry Chambers." She informed him, holding up her left hand to confirm what she had said to him about not being married.

"Oh really." Rob looked at her in surprise, "I'm due to meet with him at one-thirty,"

"How do you know him?" She asked with more than a hint of suspicion in her eyes.

"He is, or should I say was, my parent's solicitor. It's for the reading of their will."

"But that's when I..."

Gwen stopped and stared at her teenage crush, the sudden realisation that she was something to do with the Davenport's will shocking her into silence.

"Look, if you're going to the same place as I am why not let me give you a lift. Otherwise, you're going to get soaked standing at the bus stop." Rob offered as the downpour started to get heavier.

Gwen paused and thought for a second, looking out at the deluge.

"Ok, I guess I could as we're going to the same place." She agreed somewhat hesitantly.

"Great, just give me a few minutes to lock up and then we can get going."

Hurrying, Rob quickly shut up the garage, ushering Gwen out to his car before pulling the large double doors closed and padlocking them.

"Ok, all set." He grinned, sliding into the driver's seat next to her, "Shall we go and see what this is all about?"

"Sure." Trying to smile she replied anxiously.

Gazing out of the car window, watching the world go by and sitting next to the boy she had been madly in love with since she was a teenager, Gwen tried to sort out the numerous confusing thoughts that insisted on filling her head.

'Why did the solicitor want to see her?'

'What was Rob going to do now?'

'Exactly who was the girl who had been with him at the funeral?'

'What would happen to Alice?'

Sifting through them one at a time she attempted to rationalise each of them in turn.

First and foremost, she had absolutely no clue as to why Henry Chambers had asked to see her. If the Davenports had bequeathed her something in their will she definitely knew nothing about it.

She had certainly been friends with Rob's parents and had spent a lot of time over the last two years at their house, especially with Alice who she had come to regard as the younger sister she never had.

'Perhaps it was about Alice?'

Surely that was Rob's responsibility now though? He was her brother, an adult, and more than capable of looking after her.

But then wouldn't that be dependent on what he was going to do?

'Was he going to go back to London?'

"What will you do now Rob?" Without thinking she blurted out what was on her mind, "Are you going to go back to London?"

"Sorry, what?"

Gwen swallowed nervously; she hadn't meant to say it out loud but now she had she waited for an answer.

"I err... I was wondering what you were planning to do... you know, now the funeral is over and done with?"

He glanced across at her, "I honestly don't know Gwen. I need to go back home. I have a job and a flat there plus I really do need to talk to Jenna."

"Was... was she the girl at the funeral with you?" She asked hesitantly not really sure she wanted to hear his answer.

"You were there?"

"Yes, I... I saw you with her."

"Yeah that was Jenna, but she had to return to London for her job and... well it's complicated."

His response partially answered one of her concerns as to who his glamorous companion had been.

"She's ah... very pretty. Is... is she your girlfriend."

"Yeah, I guess so." His reply sounded somewhat vague.

"So, what does she do?"

He chuckled, "She's a model. Or at least that's what she wants to be. She's went back to London because she has a photoshoot scheduled for Thursday."

Gwen wanted to ask more about the redhead; to find out exactly what their relationship was but, given his obvious reluctance to talk about her, she decided against it. It was clear to her they were together and he had told her his final decision, on what he was going to do, hinged on whatever she said.

"When do you think you'll go back?"

"I have a meeting with the accountant tomorrow so probably Friday morning, as long as I can find someone to take care of Alice for a couple of nights."

Biting her lip Gwen said nothing.

Under any other circumstances she might have offered to look after the eight-year-old but, until they had had their meeting with the solicitor, she wasn't sure if she wanted Rob to know how close her relationship with his sister and his parents had been.

It was easier if he just thought of her as her teacher and a friend and nothing more.

Of course, there was also the fact that she disliked the other girl, Jenna, intensely even though she had never met her.

"Couldn't she stay with one of her friends?" She offered guardedly.

"I suppose she could but I don't really know them or their parents." Rob pointed out his problem with her suggestion, "So I wouldn't know who to ask."

"Maybe I could suggest someone."

"That might be helpful."

The pair of them fell silent and Gwen went back to looking out of the car, quietly contemplating whether or not she should offer to child mind for him.

As well as being the little girl's teacher she had grown to adore Alice in the last couple of years and the thought of how she must be feeling at the loss of her parents broke her heart.

"We're here." Rob interrupted her thoughts a few minutes later, as he pulled the car in to the side of the road.

"Oh, right."

His announcement brought her back to the reason for her journey and, once again, she started to speculate why the solicitor wanted her to be at the reading of the will.

"What do you think is in the will?" Gwen asked once they were out of the car.

"I guess we'll have to wait and see."

Ten minutes later they were upstairs on the third floor being shown into a stuffy, rather dated wood panelled office with several bookcases lining its walls.

"Robert, Gwen. Thank you both for coming." Rising from his chair Henry Chambers greeted them with a smile, "I was so sorry to hear about your parents Rob, and your mother Gwen."

"Thanks." Rob replied for the two of them, "So, what's this all about Mr Chambers?"

"First, can I get either of you a tea or a coffee?"

After they had both declined his offer of refreshments the solicitor picked up the sheet of paper on his desk and got down to business, "I need to go over George and Juila's will with you Rob, as Alice's guardian, as well as you Miss Davis, as its other main beneficiary."

"What?" Rob looked up sharply.

"Me?" Gwen added at the same time.

"There are a few small bequests to be dealt with but basically you two are the key recipients." Henry waved them down and began reading from the paper in front of him.

"Robert, first and foremost, your parents have requested you become Alice's legal guardian... along with Miss Davis."

"What?" Both Gwen and Rob exclaimed together.

"It seems they were concerned that you might not... umm... how should I put it, want to have custody of your sister Rob."

"That's ridiculous, of course I want her, and anyway is it even legal for someone not a family member to be appointed to be a guardian to a child?"

The solicitor nodded, "I'm afraid it is as long as Miss Davis agrees."

"But..." Rob spluttered turning to look at Gwen, "Surely..."

"I can contest it in court if you wish." Henry told him, glancing between the two of them, "However, a judge would look very carefully at the reasons for your parents appointing her plus there's her background as a teacher and..."

"No, that won't be necessary." Interrupting him Rob shook his head and glanced at Gwen, who looked back at him totally bemused.

"Then I'll take care of all the formalities as long as you're both happy for me to do it."

"I... I guess I'm ok." Gwen said quietly, her heart racing in her chest as she viewed Rob, "How about you?"

For a moment he gazed back at her and then nodded, it was a discussion they could have after the meeting, "Please Henry, just go ahead. I'm fine with it."

The solicitor made a note on the document and continued.

"Good. The garage and the cottage are yours and your sisters Rob, you both have a half share, to do with as you see fit. As well as that there is a small trust fund set aside for Alice that she'll receive when she turns eighteen."

"And Gwen? Is it just the question of her being Alice's guardian." Rob asked.

The older man turned to smile at her, "There's a bequest of £10,000 for Ms Davis and a smaller one of £5,000 for Anthony Morrant, Mr Davenport's mechanic."

Listening to him tell her what she had been given, on top of the shock of being asked to be a guardian to Alice, Gwen simply sat open mouthed, unable to speak.

"Is that it?" Rob enquired.

"Basically yes. Everything else is yours and your sisters. There will be a few documents to sign but I'll be in touch with you both in the coming days about those. There is likely to be a sizeable settlement from the owners of the lorry that caused the accident and I also believe that there are life insurance policies on both your parents Rob. But I'm you're your accountant will know more about those."

"Do we know how much either of those things might be?"

"I'll let you know as soon as the dust settles and an offer has been made. As for the life insurances I'll speak to Brian about them but essentially you're now a pretty wealthy man."

"Shit." He breathed out, his brain trying to process what he had just been told.

"There is one other thing." The solicitor said handing them a plain white envelope each as they both stood ready to leave, "These are from your mother Rob."

Almost immediately Gwen went to open hers.

"Wait. Her instructions were for you both to read them after you leave this office." Henry stopped her, "When you're alone."

"Do you know what is in..."

"I'm sorry, they were given to me sealed." The solicitor shook his head, "My guess is that its private, for your eyes only."

There was nothing more to be said so wrapping up their meeting they both shook hands with him before they left.

Closing the door behind them they stood at the top of the staircase both of them lost in their thoughts for a second.

"Rob, I... I had no idea..." She turned to him,

"Me neither."

Gwen held up her envelope, "What do you think is in them?"

"I've absolutely no idea about that either." Rob looked at his own wondering exactly the same...

Chapter 6 - What Next...

Walking down the stairs they lapsed back into silence, both of them preoccupied with what they had been told.

Leaving the building and stepping out onto the pavement Rob turned to her, "I guess we should have a talk Gwen?"

Her breath caught in her throat, "Yeah, I... I suppose we should. Are you ok for time though?"

"Yeah I'm good. I don't have to be at school to pick Alice up until a quarter past three." He replied, checking his watch.

"No, of course you don't. Stupid of me to ask." She mumbled.

"Fancy a coffee?" Taking her arm, he began to guide her across the street without waiting for an answer.

"Sure." Gwen said rather pointlessly as he led her along.

Steering her towards a nearby café Rob tried to make some sense of the confusion in his head.

He had started the day fairly certain of what his immediate future consisted of, of course he needed to talk to Jenna, but other than that he had a clear idea in his mind what his two main options were.

Now, in the space of a little less than forty-five minutes, literally everything had changed.

The garage finances were healthy enough but now, with what the solicitor had told him, it looked like he was going to be a lot better off than he originally thought. Not that it made up for losing his parents but it would certainly soften the blow for him and for Alice.

With the two life insurance policies, that Henry Chambers had told him about, to add to what promised to be a sizeable settlement from the haulage company whose vehicle had caused the accident, the final payout could be a life-changing amount for him and his sister.

'What might that amount be?'

He would have to speak to his accountant to get a better idea.

Then, much more importantly, there was the small matter of his Alice?

She was his number one priority and he had already made up his mind that whatever else happened, regardless of what he decided to do, he was going to take care of her. However, his parents clearly hadn't been as certain of his actions and now he would be sharing custody with Gwen.

'Maybe she would decline?'

'Should he contest the will if she didn't?'

He thought for a moment and then dismissed the idea of fighting his parents wishes. They had been right to have concerns about him, after the last few years and the gulf that had grown up between them.

It had been all his fault, he knew that. At first he had been too busy with his studies and his new friends to make time to go home and see his family. Then, later on, it had been his new job and Jenna. Her life was in London and she had been focused on her what had then been her embryonic modelling career.

However, he was determined to prove them wrong. Alice was his sister and his responsibility now, and he wasn't going to let her down.

'What about the feelings he had for Gwen?'

Glancing to the side he took a moment to study the raven-haired girl walking next to him. Ever since he had returned and had seen her in the distance at the funeral she had stirred up feelings in him that he thought he had forgotten.

"What?" Gwen looked back at him and smiled shyly, "Have I got something on my face?"

"It's nothing." He grinned back at her, "I was just thinking how much you've changed."

"For the better or worse?" The giggle that accompanied her words sent a shiver of desire all the way up his spine.

"I'll tell you once I get to know the new you a little better." Chuckling he teased her as he held open the coffee shop door.

She didn't reply and, still looking curiously at him, remained silent as she stepped inside.

"Robert Davenport? Is that actually you?" A woman's voice greeted them as he followed closely behind her.

"Mrs Baxter?" He stopped and looked in surprise at the middle-aged owner of the coffee shop standing behind the counter, "I thought you would have retired by now and settled for a quieter life."

"No, I'm still going I'm afraid." She stepped out and embraced him, "I was sorry to hear about your parents Rob."

"Thanks. Can we get two cappuccinos, please?"

"How long has it been since I last saw you?" Standing back Heather Baxter looked him up and down and smiled, "It seems like forever."

"Probably before I went off to university." Rob looked back at her rather sheepishly, "At least five years or so."

"Well, whatever, it's been far too long." She gazed at him regretfully, "It's nice to see you again, even if it is under such sad circumstances. Have these on me."

After thanking her he and Gwen extricated themselves to settle in a quiet corner of the coffee shop.

"I honestly knew nothing about any of this Rob, I swear. Especially the bit about being Alice's guardian, I..." She started to speak as soon as they sat down.

"It's ok, I believe you Gwen. It just all came as a bit of a surprise to me as well."

She chuckled, "You can say that again."

He looked at her curiously for a minute, "But why would they ask you. I don't understand."

"I suppose I should start with a bit of an explanation about your parents and myself." Gwen bit her lip nervously and looked him straight in the eye.

"Well, I have to admit that I'm more than a little bemused as to their reasons for doing what they did." Frowning he picked up his cup to take a mouthful.

Perhaps the letter his mother had left for him might explain things once he read it but, following the instructions he had been given, he couldn't open it until he was alone.

He decided to postpone making any far-reaching decisions until he had done that and, in the meantime, he would simply listen to Gwen's version of things.

She smiled weakly, unsure where she should begin, "I... I don't want the money. It was never about anything like that. But Alice... that's... that's different."

"Perhaps if you tell me about it?" He suggested reassuringly, "I knew you were friends with them but it was obviously a lot more than that."

"Yes, I suppose it was."

Starting slowly Gwen hesitantly began to relate the story of how she had become close to his parents and how they had helped her through some bad times until she came to look on them as something of a surrogate mother and father.

By the time she finished the tears were rolling freely down her cheeks.

He simply listened, without interrupting, his heart going out to her as he did his best to understand what had happened between his family and the girl sitting opposite him.

"And what about my sister? How does she fit into this?" He asked quietly once she had finished.

Gwen lifted her head and, wiping her eyes, looked at him, "I know I'm her teacher but she... she's more than just a pupil, she's like the little sister I always wanted but never had."

Rob sat for a minute, cradling his cup in his hands and staring into space as he thought about his younger sibling and sharing her care with someone else.

'Should he challenge the will?'

The thought came back to him.

But then what if something happened to him? Who would take care of Alice?

After the tragic accident that had robbed the two of them of their parents it was a possibility he couldn't disregard.

'Could Gwen Davis be that person?'

The more he thought about it the more he struggled to think of someone better suited to the task than Gwen. Although the one thing he was absolutely certain of was that he wouldn't want it to be Jenna, even if they did somehow manage to stay together.

It was a comparison that sent a realisation through him, his heart missing a beat as he thought about what the situation would be like if it were Gwen he was going back to London to talk to.

Perhaps he should ask his sister for her thoughts on the matter.

He gazed across the table at her and took some time to study the girl opposite him, quickly coming to the conclusion that his parents had been right; she would make the perfect carer for Alice.

But what about him?

"What? Are you sure there isn't something on my face?" She bit her lower lip, her cheeks colouring, as she jerked him back from his thoughts.

"I err... I..."

"You're thinking about what was in the will, aren't you?" Gwen asked, accurately reading his expression.

"Yeah I was... I mean... do you want to be one of Alice's guardians?"

"I... I think so. It's all been a shock but I..."

Rob reached over and took hold of her hand, "If you want some time to think about it then I'm ok with that."

"How do you feel about it? Do you mind?"

"I think I'm good with it but I want you to be sure."

"No, no I want to do it." She stated quickly, not making any attempt to pull her hand away, "As long as that's alright with you?"

"I'll be honest with you I can't think of anyone better to share my responsibilities with."

His compliment made her blush again and she concentrated on drinking her coffee, using her cup to mask her obvious embarrassment at what he had said as well as the fact he was still holding her hand.

"Thanks." She mumbled trying to suppress the feelings bubbling up inside her at his continued touch.

"Seriously, I mean it." He grinned, squeezing her fingers gently, "I think you're perfect for the job."

"So, how do you think this arrangement will work?" Changing the subject Gwen asked him.

"I honestly have absolutely no idea." Rob shook his head and shrugged, "I don't even know what I'm going to do yet, let alone how I'll cope with Alice."

"Do you think you'll take her back to London? That would make sharing responsibilities a bit difficult." Asking the question she desperately wanted the answer to created a feeling of trepidation in her at what he might say.

Rob thought about her question for a moment.

What sort of life his sister would have away from the only home she had known, away from her school and all her friends?

How could they share her care if they were in London and Gwen was down here?

Then there was the weighty problem of Jenna.

Their relationship had been gradually disintegrating for a while now and it was clear from the things she had said that she didn't want anything to do with Alice.

However, he had to go back, he needed to talk to her before he opted for a solution, he owed her that much at least.

He also had two other slightly less pressing problems: the first was the flat, which he owned and which Jenna was currently living in, as well as his job.

Both matters would need to be dealt with at some point if he decided to stay.

There was also another matter he needed to resolve, something he couldn't discuss with her or anyone else.

"I don't know. Like I said to you earlier I need to go back to London and talk to Jenna before I make a final decision." Rob finally responded to her question.

Taking a mouthful of her cappuccino Gwen paused for a moment. "If you want I'll look after Alice while you're in London."

"Are you sure you wouldn't mind?" There was something about the way she offered that made him wonder why she hadn't done it earlier.

"No. Honestly, I'd love to spend some time with her outside of the classroom."

"Well..." Rob said cautiously, "... if you're certain? I'd have thought you had enough of her in school."

"When were you thinking of going?" She quickly changed the subject.

He paused for a moment and considered everything he had to do before responding.

"I have to see the accountant tomorrow so I'll possibly drive back after that. Then I could stay up Friday and Saturday night and return on the Sunday. If that's ok with you that is?"

"It's pretty short notice but I'm fairly sure I can swap things around and make sure I'm free."

"You're absolutely certain?" He asked her again, "I don't want to put you to any trouble."

She smiled, "Yeah, I'm sure."

"And you're ok with the fact I won't be back until the Sunday?"

"That's fine. I'll take her home with me from school on the Friday and she can stay with me until you're back."

"Perfect."

With that settled they continued to chat about things in general, all the while Rob couldn't stop himself from thinking about the girl opposite him and comparing her to his current girlfriend.

She was everything Jenna wasn't and for a moment he thought about saying something to her, even asking her to have dinner with him, but he stopped himself.

It had been five years since he had last seen her, what was he going to say; that he had feelings for her?

She would simply laugh at him.

Keeping quiet he just smiled and carried on talking with her until they finished their coffee.

"Shall we go?" He suggested putting his empty cup down.

"Sure." Gwen drained her last mouthful and stood up.

Escorting her out to his car Rob drove her home and then headed to the school to collect his sister.

Arriving a little while ahead of schedule he sat in his car and reflected on the events of the day.

The contents of his parent's will had taken him completely by surprise, especially the inclusion of Gwen as Alice's guardian. However, when he thought about what they had done it made sense. He had been growing increasingly distant from them and his little sister over the years.

It was a situation he deeply regretted, especially where Alice was concerned, and he was determined to make it up to the little girl that he adored.

Then there was the matter of Gwen Davis.

Seeing her again after such a long time he realised that the rather odd crush he had had on the shy teenager at school was still there and now, after the funeral and the reading of the will, it had simply gotten worse.

Perhaps the letter might help him understand?

Fingering the envelope in his pocket he had just decided to open it when he noticed that it was already twenty-five past three and, leaving reading it for the moment, he hurried off to collect his sister.

Even though he was only fifteen minutes late Alice was crying when he got there.

"Hey muffin, what's the matter?" Squatting down he looked into his younger sibling's face.

"I... I thought you... you'd gone to... I..."

Before she finished he swept her up into his arms, "I told you I'm not going anywhere sweetheart. I will always be here for you."

"Y... you p... promise?" Her small sobs almost broke his heart.

The sudden realisation swept over him; he was going to have to tell her he was going back to London to confront Jenna and try to sort his life out.

"I promise. I umm... I just got caught up talking to Miss Davis."

"You know my teacher?" The eight-year-old stared at him with a look of surprise.

"Yes I do, we went to school together."

"Really? You know her?" Alice asked, her eyes shining. "She's lovely."

'Yes, she is.'

He thought to himself but didn't actually say it to her.

Driving home Rob kept quiet, leaving his sister to watch television once they were back in the cottage while he got on with preparing their evening meal.

Trying to decide the best way to tell her he was leaving for a couple of days he left it until he was tucking her in to bed before he said anything.

"You know I said I will always be here for you don't you?"

Alice looked up at him unhappily, "You're going away aren't you?"

"Just for a couple of days muffin." He took hold of her hand, "I have to go up to London to sort a few things out."

"Will... will you come back?"

"Of course I will munchkin."

"You're going to see her aren't you? To see Jenna?"

Not wanting to lie to her Rob nodded, "Yes, I am."

"Why? She hates me. She'll take you away from me."

Swallowing hard he knew he couldn't argue against her, "No she won't I promise. She doesn't really hate you Jenna... well Jenna's just to wrapped up with her own life to have time to think about anyone else."

"What will I do? Who's going to look after me?"

"I err... I asked Miss Davis and she said you could stay with her."

"Really!" Alice exclaimed excitedly, "I'm staying with her?"

"Is that ok?"

She beamed happily for a moment before frowning, "Yeah, but you are coming back aren't you?"

"Wild horses couldn't stop me sweetheart, I promise."

As he said it he knew he meant it, the only question in his mind was whether it was just for his sister or was it for Gwen as well...

Chapter 7 - Feelings...

Closing her front door behind her Gwen leant back against it and closed her eyes, finally able to breathe properly as her heart rate gradually returned to something normal.

'Why had she offered to look after Alice for him?'

She snorted derisively at her own stupid question. The reason was quite simple; she loved the little girl like a sister.

But at the same time, she also knew she was making it easier for Rob to go back to see his glamorous girlfriend.

That raised even more questions, ones that she wasn't certain she wanted the answers to.

'Had they argued about Alice?

'Was her going home alone a sign they had parted ways?'

The idea that they might have broken up suddenly sprang into her mind filling her with a momentary feeling of hope.

'What if he went back and they made up?'

The thought of him with another girl, especially the one she had seen, made her feel sick. She had suppressed her feelings for him for years and now he was back she had to deal with the truth of the matter; she had never stopped loving him.

She sighed at her own hopelessness; there was no way that he would ever be interested in her.

He went out with girls like Jenna Marcombe and it made her very aware that Rob Davenport was most definitely way out of her league.

Pushing herself upright she headed for the kitchen to start her evening meal. There was little she could do about it now, she had made the offer to look after Alice and he had accepted.

Her roller coaster of emotions continued on through the evening and into the next day; one minute she would find herself calmly reflecting on the situation she was now in and then, a little later, the anxiety would set in again.

She was still struggling with her feelings about him when she arrived at school just after seven-thirty the following morning, making a stop in the staff room for a cup of coffee before going to her classroom..

"Gwen, Rob's in reception for you." Christine Tomlinson informed her when she entered a few minutes later, "He has something for you."

Making her way out to meet him she gave him a shy smile, "Hi Rob."

"Hi Gwen, I just brought Alice's things." He handed across a bag, "She's really excited about staying with you."

"I'm excited to."

He avoided looking at her directly, "I... err... I also put my number in there. Just in case you need to call me for anything."

Taking the small holdall off him, Gwen replied, "Thanks. When do you think you'll be back?"

"Sometime on Sunday if that's ok. I'll try not to be too late."

"Great, we should be at my cottage."

"I'll... I'll be off then... and thanks again."

She forced herself to smile wanting to say more to him, "Drive safely and I'll see you on Sunday."

Turning away he opened the door to leave and stopped, "See you on Sunday then."

Watching him walk away she sighed and turned to start for her classroom.

"Gwen." The thrilled eight-year-old shrieked as she dashed in to class.

"Hello Alice, you're the first one to arrive." Gwen laughed quietly, "But you have to remember to call me Miss Davis here."

"I'm staying with you, Rob said I was." Alice bubbled with excitement.

"I know. Won't it be fun, we'll have a couple of days to catch up before your brother comes back." Gwen told her, ushering her to her seat, "But for now you shouldn't say anything to your friends, ok?"

Alice nodded, "Ok. But Rob will come back won't he? He won't go away with her and leave me on my own like mummy and daddy did?"

Gwen's heart broke at Alice's words. She felt the pain of losing someone you loved, not just for the child, but for herself as well.

"Yes, of course he'll come back. Your brother won't break his promise to you."

"Are you sure?"

She hugged the little girl, "Of course I am. Now why don't you help me get ready for class."

For the most part the day went by just like any other normal school one apart from Alice's very obvious effervescing anticipation of her weekend with Gwen effervescing away just.

Seeing the other children off at a quarter past three Gwen collected her things and, along with her young charge for the next two days, set off for the bus stop.

Listening to Alice chattering non-stop all the way back to her cottage Gwen eventually quietened her down, settling the eight-year-old in front of the television, and was just making her way out to the kitchen when the youngster spoke again.

"I don't like her and I don't think she wants Rob to look after me."

"Who don't you like?" Gwen asked fairly sure of the answer she would get.

"His girlfriend, Jenna."

Gwen couldn't help but giggle and confess conspiratorially, "Don't tell your brother but I don't like her very much either."

"Why can't you be his girlfriend? You went to school with him."

"Oh I... umm... it... err... it doesn't quite work like that sweetheart and anyway it's not my decision."

Alice looked at her questioningly, "Why? Don't you like my brother then?"

"Yes, I do." Gwen blushed, "I like him, I like him a lot."

"So?"

Sighing she pushed the question aside, "Come on let's get dinner started."

She forgot about her conversation with Alice as she got on with everything she had to do and it was only when she lay in bed, later that evening, waiting for sleep to take her that she remembered.

From almost falling asleep Gwen was suddenly wide awake when she recalled the letter she had been left.

Retrieving it from her bag she sat up in bed, fingering the envelope hesitantly, turning it over in her hand several times, before nervously tearing it open and unfolding the single sheet of paper inside.

Dearest Gwen,

Hopefully by the time you read this letter its contents will be irrelevant but in case they aren't... and our daughter is still under 18 then I will feel happier having written this.

I've asked you to be one of Alice's guardians should anything happen to both of us. Not because I don't trust Robert, I do, but somehow I can't see his girlfriend wanting to be tied down with a teenager.

She's well and truly got her claws into my son and I'm not sure he can see just how she is keeping him from his family.

I know it's a huge imposition but Alice adores you and if we aren't around I couldn't think of anyone, apart from Rob, who I would want to look after her.

As for the money I know it's not very much but hopefully it will help and as Alice owns half the garage and the cottage there should be more to come.

On a final note. I know you have feelings for Rob so maybe you can find it in your heart to look out for him as well.

I just wish he would come to his senses and come home to 'the right girl' for him, if you get my meaning.

Love you loads

Julie

Her eyes misted over as she thought of Julie Davenport writing the letter and the insight into her heart that Rob's mother obviously had.

'Could she really be Rob's girlfriend?'

Staring into the darkness, the simple statement in the letter kept returning to her and she realised how futile the idea was, no matter what Julie said.

There was no way she could compete with someone like Jenna, the notion was ridiculous. In truth Rob was in London, almost certainly making up with his girlfriend and probably already arranging to take his sister away to live with him.

At the same time, she wondered about Julie's other letter and what she had written to her son. What if it said the same thing as hers and Rob read it and came back?

The thought sent a warmth straight to the top of her thighs and she lay back, her heart starting to beat faster.

Giving up on sleep for the moment she paused and listened, checking to see if Alice might be awake, and then satisfied everything was quiet she let her hand disappear under the bedcovers.

Easing up the old t-shirt she had on she slipped her fingers under the waistband of her panties, her other hand peeling the duvet back to expose her body to the cool night air.

It had been some time since she last pleasured herself and she bit her lower lip, spreading her legs apart to run a finger-tip gently and sensuously along the length of her delicate folds.

"Oh... oh yessss..." She breathed in smiling serenely and closed her eyes, a vision of Rob fixed firmly in her mind.

Although she had been on a few dates in the past Gwen had never gone any further than kissing and some light fondling, her only real sexual experiences coming from her own fingers. Her intention to save herself for the one boy that was special to her had always been a stupid dream, until now.

Tracing her fingers around her labia, not quite touching them, she let the arousal emanating from her aching sex take hold of her and imagined it was him.

The index finger of her right hand slid lightly along the length of her wet slit and, feeling how wet she was, she pressed it gently between her moist folds, moaning softly as her excitement started to grow.

"Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh."

Clenching her teeth she suppressed another groan when her fingers reached her engorged clitoris, the tip of one teasing across it. Playing with her swollen nub she allowed the ecstasy to build in her for a minute or two, before pushing a single digit deep into her dripping hole.

"Oh... fuck... ahhhhhhhhh."

Biting her lip, she managed to stifle another cry of pleasure, the sound little more than a hoarse whisper, while her hips jerked upwards to urge her velvet soft quim further onto the invading finger.

Closing her eyes she visualised Rob's hands on her, touching her in the ways she desired him to. As she did, her free hand slipped up under the t-shirt she had on to find a breast, lightly squeezing the soft girl flesh before seeking out her nipple and toying with it.

Needing to climax, to satisfy the cravings created by the thought of Robert Davenport, she quickly added a second finger into her wet sex. Driving both of them knuckle deep she bit back the gasps of delight the sensations she was creating drew from her, and started to seek her fulfilment.

There was little she could do to silence the soft wet squelch from her pussy as she fingered herself towards her goal, or to disguise the heady scent of female arousal that hung in the air.

"Oh God... oh God... oh, oh, ohhhhhh..."

Whimpering softly Gwen pinched her nipple hard, driving herself towards a much-needed climax, her belly tightening as the waves of pleasure grew in intensity inside her.

"Oh Rob... Rob."

All she could do was moan his name when the tsunami finally broke over her and she came, her whole-body stiffening, her fingers jammed deep inside her sex while her orgasm swept through her. The face of Rob Davenport remaining fixed in her mind the whole time.

As her breathing slowed and her heart rate gradually returned to normal Gwen pulled the covers back over her, the images from her dream still vivid in her head.

'Could she ever consider him to be hers?'

Perhaps he wasn't at the moment but she knew without a doubt she wanted him to be.

But how?

How could she compete with someone like Jenna? The girl was gorgeous and right now Rob was back in London to try to save their relationship.

Then there was Alice. What would happen to her if he stayed with the redhead?

She was still mulling the problems over in her head when she eventually drifted off to sleep.

The sound of her alarm clock startled her and she reached over to turn it off before getting up to spend the Saturday with Alice...

Chapter 8 - London

After settling Alice in bed, Rob sat in front of the television and, without seeing what was on the screen, he tried to focus on the problem of what he was going to do.

However, as much as he tried to keep his mind fixed on the matter in hand his thoughts continually returned to the subject of Gwen Davis.

The fact that he had feelings for her was now undeniable, even though she was so completely different from any of his girlfriends, especially Jenna Marcombe.

'Was she still his girlfriend?'

She was gorgeous, sexy and almost insatiable in bed but there had always been something missing, the same something that he felt whenever he was around Gwen. It had been a feeling that was with him all through his latter school years and then, the moment he had set eyes on her again, it had been reawakened.

Not that any of that mattered at the moment; his one overriding concern had to be his little sister.

He was still pondering his circumstances, and thinking about what he was going to say to Jenna, when he eventually took himself off to bed a couple of hours later.

"Don't forget Gwen is taking you home with her after school today." He reminded his sister as they ate breakfast.

"Why do you have to go?"

"Err... Well, because I have a few things I have to do back in London sweetheart, just for a couple of nights."

"You... you will come back won't you?" It was always the same question from her, always the worry that he was somehow going to leave her alone.

"Of course I will silly. I just have to talk to Jenna and sort a couple of other things out." Rob kissed the top of her head, "I told you I'm never leaving you."

The eight-year-old stared at him with concern in her eyes, "Is Gwen going to look after me the whole time while you're gone?"

"Yes, she's said you can stay with her until Sunday and I'll pick you up from her cottage when I get back."

"Really?" The delight in his sister's eyes and the smile on her face confirmed to Rob everything he had heard about Alice's relationship with Gwen.

"Yes really, now finish your cereal and get ready for school while I pack a bag for you."

An hour later, after dropping his sister at the school playground with her friends, Rob made his way inside the building.

"Well, well, if it isn't Rob Davenport." Christine Tomlinson smiled at him as he came through the door. "What can I do for you Rob?"

"Oh hi... I err... I wanted to know... is Gwen about? I have Alice's things for her."

"Wait there. I'll just fetch her for you."

The head teacher disappeared and a minute or so later Gwen emerged from the staff room.

"Hi Rob." She greeted him with a shy smile, her cheeks colouring.

"Hi Gwen, I just brought Alice's things." He lifted up the bag he was carrying, "She's really excited about staying with you."

"I'm excited to."

"I... err... I also put my number in there. Just in case you need to call me for anything." Rob murmured wanting to tell her to ring him that evening but, unsure what her response would be, he didn't.

"Thanks." Gwen took the small holdall off him, "When do you think you'll be back?"

"Sometime on Sunday if that's ok. I'll try not to be too late."

"Great, we should be at my cottage." She bit her bottom lip as she answered,.

"I'll... I'll be off then... and thanks again."

She smiled again, "Drive safely and I'll see you on Sunday."

Turning away he opened the door to go and paused.

The leavers party came back into his mind and he remembered how he had said goodbye to her once before and then walked away. His stomach clenched and he once again felt he needed to say more, to ask her to have dinner with him when he returned or something, but he wondered if now was the right time.

"See you on Sunday then." Was all he managed to utter before stepping out into the street, cursing his indecision all the way back to his car.

"Stay away from Gwen."

Rob had his hand on the door handle when a man's voice made him look round to find a stranger striding towards him.

"Who the fuck are you?"

"Who I am doesn't matter." Mark Yates stopped just inches away from him, "All you need to know is Gwen and I have an arrangement, so just leave her alone, she's spoken for."

"What arrangement? She told me she wasn't seeing..."

"Well, for your information she is... and that someone happens to be me, so stay a-fucking-way from her. D'you hear?"

"She's just a..."

"She's my girlfriend, that's what she is, So just do as I told you and keep away from her. Understand?"

Prodding him in the chest with his finger to ensure his message was properly delivered, the teacher turned and walked away leaving a somewhat confused Rob staring after him.

Shaking his head and wondering what sort of games Gwen was playing he slid into his car and started the engine. Setting off for his appointment he replayed the unexpected and mystifying conversation over in his head.

'Who had the stranger been?'

'Was Gwen with someone?'

She hadn't mentioned a boyfriend at any point and, without having anything more to go on, he decided he would simply ask her when he got back from his trip.

Arriving pretty much on time for his meeting he was immediately ushered into an office to meet with Brian Talbot, his parent's, and now his, accountant, to get a full picture of his parent's financial situation.

Apart from their own personal bank accounts being in reasonable health it appeared, that a few years back, they had both taken out substantial life insurance policies of £250,000, naming him and Alice as the sole beneficiaries.

It was a piece of news that had him sitting open-mouthed in shock. He was aware that they had insured themselves but the amount he and Alice would receive completely stunned him.

The remainder of his time with the accountant was spent discussing the garage and he got confirmation that his estimation of its value and current financial standing had been reasonably accurate.

When he eventually left Brian's office he knew that, whatever he decided to do, both he and Alice would be financially secure for quite a while.

By midday he was back in his car and on his way, a reasonably wealthy man, with a few more things to occupy his mind. However, for almost the whole of his drive he couldn't help but think about Gwen and his encounter with the stranger earlier that morning.

'Who was he?'

'What was their arrangement?'

In the brief time they had spent together she had given him no reason to think she was interested in him but why hadn't she mentioned she had a boyfriend?

Feeling sick at the thought he did his best to push the questions out of his head and focus on his upcoming reunion with Jenna.

Stopping mid-journey for a toilet break, plus a coffee and a sandwich, Rob took his time and eventually arrived in London at a little after five o'clock in the afternoon, pulling his car into an empty space behind the block of flats where he lived.

Turning off the engine he sat back in his seat and closed his eyes, quietly contemplating what he was going to say to his girlfriend, when he finally saw her.

'What if she wasn't at home?'

'Could she have even moved out?'

Apart from her photo shoot on the Thursday he had no idea what she was doing and it came as a bit of a shock when he realised that they hadn't spoken since she walked out of the cottage door a few days previously.

Hauling his overnight bag out of the back of the car he let himself in the main door and took the stairs up to the second floor, pausing outside his flat for a moment to gather his thoughts.

'What would he do if she wasn't in?'

Maybe he should have called and told her he was coming back?

It was too late to change his mind now and even if she wasn't there she would eventually have to come home, unless she had moved out.

Smiling to himself he realised that if she had his biggest problem would be resolved without any effort from him.

Turning his key in the lock to apartment 204 Rob pushed the door open and, taking a step inside into the living area, he went to call out and stopped abruptly.

He knew instantly something wasn't quite right.

"Oh yes, yes... fuck me... just fuck me." A low, drawn-out groan came from the master bedroom where the door in the wall to his left stood part way open.

He stood frozen for a moment and then, as quietly as he could, he moved towards the sound, depositing his bag on the couch as he passed it. Knowing with a sense of inevitability exactly what he was going to find he slowly continued forwards.

Jenna was naked on their bed, on her hands and knees with the boss of the agency she worked for, Clyde Frobisher, kneeling behind her. Also nude, he clung onto her hips as he frantically pounded away at her doggie style, fucking her hard.

Both of them were totally absorbed in their frenetic copulating and it was obvious to him that neither of them had any idea that he was there.

"Harder you bastard... fuck me harder!'

His girlfriend moaned again, her head snapping up as he drove his hard length into her. his thighs slapping loudly against her arse, in the same way that Rob's had many times before.

Uncharacteristically hypnotised by the erotic spectacle in front of him he stood speechless and quite nonchalantly watched his girlfriend cheating on him.

Rob had met Clyde a couple of times before when Jenna had insisted he came to agency parties and had never really warmed to the man, finding him more than a little sleazy.

Now here he was in his bedroom, screwing his girlfriend on his bed.

Surely he should feel something? Anger, arousal, even annoyance but, much to his surprise, all he felt was complete and utter indifference.

He was still analysing his emotions when Jenna glanced towards the door and saw him.

"Rob!"

Her scream stopped her lover mid-stroke and Clyde turned and stared at him as Jenna jerked herself off him. Grabbing the duvet, she pulled it up around her in a ridiculous attempt to cover her nudity while her lover almost leapt off the bed, his dick waving ridiculously in front of him as he started to scrabble on the floor for his clothes.

"Rob, I..." He started to speak.

"Don't bother trying to explain," Rob interrupted him then looked across to the redhead who was now, most definitely, his former girlfriend, before adding, "... either of you."

"It's not what you..." She started to say.

"Please don't Jen. It's exactly what it seems." He stopped her, "So, how long has it been going on?"

"This is the first time..."

"Don't fucking lie to me. It's pretty obvious it isn't."

"Just a... a few months." She murmured, the tears starting to trickle down her cheeks.

"Why? What was it about? Wasn't I enough for you?"

"I'm sorry Rob." She blubbed, "It... it happens in the modelling world. It... it doesn't mean anything."

He shrugged, ignoring Clyde who was staring at him, saying nothing and still struggling to get his clothes on, "And that's supposed to make it ok?"

"I... I guess not." Jenna mumbled almost inaudibly, "So, what now?"

"I'm gonna go down the pub and give you a couple of hours but I want you gone when I get back."

"Rob please..." She started to say it again, "... it... it really didn't mean anything, it was just... sex."

"Yeah and that's all we've been to each other for the last few months; sex partners."

"But where will I go?"

"I'll be honest Jen I don't give a flying fuck. I buried my parents a few days ago and I have an 8-year-old little girl depending on me." He stated bluntly, "Not that you're interested."

"Is there anything I can say?" She bit her bottom lip as she asked.

"Nah, I'm done." He told her, "Why don't you just fuck off with Clyde. I'm sure he'll accommodate you."

"Rob please I..."

They were the last words he heard her utter as he turned away and, picking up his bag, walked out of the flat.

Sitting in the pub, nursing a pint, Rob took the envelope out of his coat pocket and, studying it, tried to feel sad about Jenna's betrayal. Their break-up had been inevitable, he had known that, but instead of the sadness he had expected to feel the only sensation he had was one of an overwhelming sense of relief.

Taking a mouthful of his beer, he put the glass down and started to tear the envelope open...
