15 Days with the Smith Family Pt. 02

15 Days with the Smith Family - Part 2

The first 6 days from Helen Smith's perspective

Day 1

The end of the working day in the accounting office was approaching. Helen was sitting at the desk finishing her work. Diana was already finished and ready to go and was sitting across from her. Helen often peeked at her phone and mused. Daniel hasn't sent a message about the exam yet. The results are probably still pending. It doesn't matter; everything is probably fine. I'm finishing my work now. By the time I get home, I'll definitely be notified.

Helen turned off the computer and got up from her chair. Diana turned towards her. "Are you done?"

"Yes, I am. I'm going home now."

"Did you manage to finish everything?"

"Yes, I thought I wouldn't, but I did." Helen sighed. Hmm, I am efficient--even if the job is boring me to tears.

"Well done, see you tomorrow."

"See you, goodbye, girl!"

Helen left the office, and before getting into the car, she looked at her phone one more time. Nothing yet, hmm.

Driving on her way home, her mind wanders. This job is killing me. It's so monotonous; every day is the same. I realize I made a mistake because I never graduated. I was one of the best students in my class. After I had Daniel, I had no motivation to continue. We decided I would become a housewife and take care of the children while Greg built his career. Later, I took a job because I felt useless doing nothing. But this job itself is killing me. We have high expenses, so I can't just quit. Although, I will have to consider changing jobs if I don't want to go crazy.15 Days with the Smith Family Pt. 02 Ρ„ΠΎΡ‚ΠΎ

She parked the car and went into the house. Helen quickly ran upstairs to her room, took some clothes from the closet, and then went into the bathroom. First, she checked her phone once more, undressed, and showered. After the shower, she put on her summer dress and went downstairs to the kitchen. At the same moment, Daniel entered the house.

Helen went straight to the question troubling her the most. "Good day! How was the exam?"

"Just a day." Daniel took a step forward and went to his mother to kiss her as usual. It's not that easy to tell her that I failed.

"So, tell me!"

Daniel looked her in the eye and said, ashamed, "I failed the exam."

Helen was petrified for a few seconds and asked fearfully, "Oh my God, Daniel, what happened? How is this possible?"

"Mom, everything is fine. I just didn't study the last material well because I thought I knew everything about it, and that was one part of the exam that I solved wrong. Nothing serious."

"A... but that's not possible; how could this happen?" Helen became very nervous and upset.

"Mom, calm down and don't dramatize. I failed the exam, and now what?"

"You can't just fail the exam like that; something is wrong with you!!! You've never failed an exam before..." By now, Helen was nearly shouting. Then Helen started screaming uncontrollably. Mia came down the stairs to the kitchen.

"What's going on here?" Mia asked, looking around.

"Nothing. Mom is having a nervous breakdown," Daniel answered, cool as a cucumber.

"Your brother failed the exam; that's what happened." Helen huffed.

"Oh, my perfect brother, how could you..." Mia said with a good dose of irony in her words.

Daniel tried placating his mom, "Mom, calm down. I'm going to my room."

Daniel and Mia climbed the stairs, leaving their upset mom in the kitchen.

Helen is muttering, "Oh no, no. It's not possible. He never failed the exam. Something is happening. How is it possible that I didn't notice something was happening to him? It's all because of my stupid job. I don't have time to take care of the kids. Damn that Greg job. He's never home. I can't do everything by myself. Maybe Daniel has love problems. Or maybe he's gotten into the wrong company. God, perhaps he's started taking drugs; oh no..."

Helen was beside herself as she walked through the kitchen, completely distraught. At that moment, her phone rang.

"Yes," Helen answered nervously.

"Honey, I have good news," Greg started with a smile in his voice.

"No, no good news today. I can't take it," Helen said anxiously.

"What happened, dear?"

"He failed, he failed..." Helen lamented.

"Who, what? What are you talking about?"

"Daniel, that's who."

"He failed the exam, for God's sake; you don't even know Daniel had an exam," Helen harrumphed impatiently.

"I know the exam is this week, but I didn't know it was today," Greg replied calmly, hoping to appease his wife.

"Yes, of course. There's something wrong with him."

"Calm down. It's okay; it's just an exam."

"Well, it's not. This has never happened before." Helen dug her heel in.

"There's always a first time," Greg tried to placate Helen.

"Is that your answer? That's your answer?!" Helen became more agitated.

"Honey, we'll talk at home. I just wanted to call you to tell you that Mia and Lisa can start working in our office next week."

"Mia? Work? What are you talking about?"

"Did you forget? We talked about it last week," Greg reminded her.

There was a moment of silence. Oh, I completely forgot about Mia's job. And he doesn't know Daniel had an exam. Oh, what kind of parents are we? Helen admonished herself.

"Oh my God, I completely forgot. It seems we have shared responsibilities: I take care of Daniel, and you take care of Mia, but I've clearly failed as a parent."

"Nonsense, you're the perfect mother. Anyway, I'll try to come early tonight. Bye, honey, kiss kiss."

"Bye, honey," Helen replied automatically. Well, I have no control over the kids. I don't know what's going on with my kids. I don't know what's going on in the house. This isn't going to work anymore. I'm going crazy.

She sat down on a chair, stared at one point for a few minutes, and then started crying. It's all my fault. I'm not a good mother. I don't have a good relationship with my kids. I ignore Mia, and Daniel has problems... God, how did this happen? Greg? We barely communicate at all. I can't do this anymore...

She took her cell phone and called her sister.

"Hello, big sister!" Marie picked up the phone in a merry tone.

"Hello," Helen answered haltingly.

"Something's wrong, isn't it?"

"Yes."

"I'm listening."

"He failed the exam."

"Who? Daniel?"

"Of course it's Daniel."

"I see you're really upset because it's his first time failing the exam, but that's what students do: fail and take exams. Do you know how many times I've failed exams?" Marie attempted and failed to calm Helen.

"Yes, but I think something's wrong."

"Was that Professor Doohan? I know him well. I'll check tomorrow and come over for the weekend to see you," Marie offered.

"Yes, that would be good. I can't wait to see you. Bye."

Marie said her farewell too, "See you soon. Friday or Saturday I will be there."

Helen thought about her sister. Marie lives and works in another city now and is a lecturer at a college. She has a master's degree and is preparing for her doctorate. She is successful in her business career, but her personal life is not so good. She is not in a relationship; she is alone. She likes parties and nightlife, but she has problems with relationships... I should help her too, not ask her for help...

Helen picked up her phone again. Nadia is my best friend. We grew up together and went to school together. I have to call her. She will help me with this.

Nadia replied after the first ring. "Hello."

"Hey, are you busy?" Helen didn't hesitate to ask.

"I am always free for you."

"I know. You are my best friend."

"Make some coffee. I will be at your place, Helen, in 20 minutes."

Helen was relieved to be seeing her best friend soon. "Okay. I'll be waiting for you."

Helen put the cushions onto the chairs on the terrace and made some coffee... not long after, Nadia knocked on the door.

"Jesus Christ, look at you! Have you been crying? What happened?"

"Let's sit outside."

Nadia took her cell phone and cigarettes out of her purse, put them on the table, and sat down. Helen followed her, putting two cups of coffee and a bottle of water on the table. "Would you like anything else? I have a nice cherry liqueur."

"What a question! Of course, I do," Nadia replied, lighting a cigarette.

Helen returned from the kitchen with a tray in her hand with a bottle and liquor glasses, and the two friends started talking.

"I'm listening," Nadia announced, cocking her head sideways.

"So, Daniel failed his exam today."

"And now you think something is wrong..." Nadia raised her eyebrows.

"Of course, you know he's an excellent student."

"Don't kid yourself. Daniel is an excellent student. He is intelligent and bright, which explains why he is doing well in school. He is not a nerd. I guess you know that yourself."

"Anyway, I should have known..."

"Known what? Stop it! If something were wrong, you would know, trust me."

"But maybe I missed something, and Greg didn't even know Daniel had an exam." Helen huffed.

"Yes, I understand, but you are aware of the business problem Greg has to handle right now, aren't you? He's invested a lot in his business, and you said you give him your full support and understanding that he'll neglect his family for a while, right?"

"Yes, but it was supposed to last a year at most. It's been over a year now, but nothing has changed."

"Have you talked to him?"

"No. But I can't do this anymore. I'm going crazy. He called me today and said he'd arranged a job for Mia at his company, and I didn't even know Mia was looking for a job. What kind of mother am I?" Helen wailed.

Helen reached for Nadia's pack of cigarettes.

"Have you started smoking again?" Nadia prodded.

"No, but I need it now," Helen replied, fumbling with the packet of cigarettes.

"I know what you need. First, stop blaming yourself. Second, I know you don't have time, but you must make time for yourself."

"I know, but..."

"Shut up and listen to me!" Nadia interrupted. "At one time in your life, you made a sacrifice by leaving college to keep Greg's job and take care of your family. That was very brave and nice of you. Now you're supporting his job again and taking care of your family. That's great. But you're still doing your stupid job..."

"What do you mean?"

"So, do you remember my job? I even became a department head. But I was always at work--nights, days, weekends... Roger worked in a low-budget hotel for little money..."

"Yes, I remember. Then Roger found a better job, and you quit and stayed home."

"That was the smartest thing I ever did. Look at me now, Helen. I feel better than ever. I have time for everything. I sleep as much as I want, I do housework, and when I want, I have time for coffee, manicures, and pedicures. I have time for the kids... Yes, we can't afford to go to restaurants, but we walk around the city and eat hot dogs. But honey, he fucks me every night and on weekends several times a day."

"Nadia, are you serious? Speak quietly..."

"Look at yourself! When was the last time you had sex?"

Helen looked around. "I, I don't know, God, I don't know, for a long time," Helen stuttered.

"Weeks or months?"

"Months," Helen sighed wistfully.

"Look at me, honey. Everything will be fine. Talk to Greg and take two weeks off for a family holiday. It doesn't have to be two weeks. Ten days or so should be enough. Get close again. You really need it," Nadia doled out her wisdom.

"I'm not sure Greg will agree. Well, not exactly Greg, but Trevor. Trevor is still worried about the company."

"You used to be such a talker that you could talk anyone into anything. You can still do it. So, how is Trevor doing with his new wife?"

"I think she's fine. I haven't seen them in a while."

"If Trevor is causing problems around the holidays, talk to his wife. She seems like a reasonable woman to me."

"Yeah, good idea," Helen agreed. I might just do that.

"I'll go now, and you go get dressed and seduce your husband over dinner. Then explain to him how things are. Before I forget, here's a pill for you. Take it right now so you'll calm down when he comes and don't start yelling at him."

"What pill is that?" Helen asked hesitantly.

"Trexalinox. Don't try to get a prescription. Doctors only give it to housewives, ha-ha. I'm going now. Call me tomorrow!"

"Thank you, and thank God I have you!"

Nadia left, and Helen sat for a while longer, thinking. It's so good to have Nadia. I always feel better after talking to her. I'll make dinner. Greg likes spaghetti bolognese the most. Yes, I'll make that. I'll make the Bolognese right now and cook the spaghetti just before Greg arrives.

She went to the kitchen and started preparing food, but disturbing thoughts wouldn't leave her mind. I used to love cooking. Unfortunately, I don't enjoy working anymore. I don't have enough time for myself.

After she had prepared what she needed, she went upstairs. She knocked on the door of Daniel's room.

"Yes!" Daniel shouted.

Helen poked her head in. "Just to let you know that dinner will be ready when Dad gets home."

"Okay, Mom."

Then Helen knocked on Mia's room door and repeated the same.

Helen went into her room, opened the closet, and tried on all the clothes she hadn't worn in a long time: dresses, underwear... everything.

Before 7 o'clock she went to the kitchen and finished preparing dinner. At exactly 7 o'clock Greg returned home, and Helen met him at the door.

"Hi, dear," Greg said as he kissed his wife in greeting.

"Hi, honey," Helen replied, snuggling into Greg's arms.

"Dinner is ready; you can change, and I'll call the kids," Helen offered.

"Okay, I'll be coming in a moment."

Daniel and Mia had arrived, and they all sat down at the table.

Helen opened their usual evening exchange of news: "Okay, do we want to start with the good news or the bad news?"

Daniel started the ball rolling, "As you know, I failed the exam, and I apologize. I simply ignored the last material, but I've already managed to analyze it, and I know where I went wrong."

"Daniel, it's okay; you don't need to apologize. Mom is upset, and that's understandable. You'll have another chance in the fall, and now you have almost 3 months to prepare." Greg attempted to put everyone's mind at ease.

"Yes, it won't be a problem, I promise," Daniel affirmed.

Helen kept the ball rolling. "Greg, tell us what's new."

"I talked to Trevor today and determined that we need help in the office, and we decided to hire Mia and Lisa."

"Dad, that's great, yay! Thanks, Dad."

Mia stood up and kissed her dad. She was overjoyed.

"Lisa is your friend, and you can arrange your working hours with her. You don't have to be in the office 24/7. One of you in the morning, the other in the afternoon, or you can alternate daily. It's up to you two to arrange it."

"I'm so happy, and I can't wait to get started," Mia enthused.

"You can start in a few days as soon as we get the office, desk, phone, and computer ready and get the paperwork done..."

"I can't believe my little sister is going to start working. Congratulations."

"Daniel, be polite," Helen warned.

The dinner was a pleasant affair. Daniel and Mia got up from the table and went to their rooms. Helen cleared the table and took out the dirty dishes.

"Let me help you." Greg offered.

"No, take this bottle of wine and sit in the living room."

"Okay, that's a good idea."

Greg made himself comfortable in the living room and turned on the TV, and Helen came in shortly after.

"Sorry, dear, this has been a hard day for you, as has this whole period." Greg commiserated.

"Wait, I'll be back in a minute." Helen got up, fisting her hands alternately.

Helen climbed the stairs and entered the room. She put on some sexy lingerie. A black lace bra and black thong. She looked very sexy. She put on a bathrobe over it. She took the pill that Nadia had given her. Soon, Helen came back and sat next to Greg.

"Darling, I think Daniel is fine." Greg attempted to comfort Helen.

"Maybe, but it's not right that it's just me. You didn't even know he had an exam," Helen said with hurt in her voice.

"True, just like you didn't know Mia was looking for a job." Greg kept his voice smooth and calm.

"It seems you care for Mia, and I care for Daniel."

"Daniel is a man, a grown man. He doesn't need his dad anymore in the sense of needing protection and being taken care of. He needs me as a friend. To give him advice, to have a beer sometimes, and to talk about manly things, but Mia is a woman, naive and sensitive. She's easy to hurt, and it's normal for me to worry about her more."

"Ha-ha, I have the exact opposite opinion. I think Mia is resourceful and mentally strong, while Daniel is the one who needs more attention," Helen retorted.

"Yes, that's what we do. Our kids are great, and I don't see any problem with it."

"The problem is that you're never home."

"I know, but that's going to change soon."

"That's going to change right now. We have to do something; we have to get closer again. I thought we could take two weeks off and go to a seaside resort." Helen continued the steamrolling.

"That would be great, but..."

"Trevor? Is he a problem?" Helen queried.

"Yeah, he's still worried that something will go wrong at work."

"Here's how we'll do it. Tell him we're having them over for dinner in honor of Mia and Lisa's new jobs, and I'll talk to Susan first. We'll definitely talk him into it."

"Honey, you're a genius."

They spent some time talking and watching TV, and then Greg leaned over and kissed Helen. Helen kissed back passionately.

"We haven't kissed like that in a long time," Greg whispered into Helen's ear, drawing her close.

Helen untied her robe and was left in only her sexy underwear.

"Ugh, you're fucking sexy," Greg murmured.

Helen put her hand on his crotch. She felt his erection. She took it out of his pants and gently took it in her hand.

"Mmmm, what are you doing?"

"Shh! Feel."

Oh, I'm so horny. I love that dick. I haven't felt this ramped up in a long time.

Greg realized he had to be quiet as Helen gently stroked his cock. Helen lowered her head and took him into her mouth. She sucked his cock passionately. She paused for a moment, took off her bra, knelt in front of Greg, and continued to suck his swollen cock. She took it deep, and Greg, holding her hair, pulled her even closer to him. They were both breathing rapidly and making loud sounds of pleasure. They completely ignored the fact that they were in the living room. Helen paused for a moment.

"I want to feel you inside me!" Helen brushed her lips to his ear, nibbling on it.

She stood up and took off her thong and lightly touched her pussy. She was already quite wet.

Helen sat on Greg's lap and ran her hand over her wet pussy. She began to ride him passionately. Greg played with her tits, pinching and pulling the light-brown tips of the white globes. She rode him harder and harder. Helen hadn't felt like this in a long time and couldn't help but moan loudly. She became louder and more passionate--a sign that her orgasm was coming. Greg knew Helen would come, so he made her even hotter by slapping her ass. Helen came screaming, and Greg released his grip and started filling her wet pussy with his cum. She sat on his cock until it became soft, and when she stood up, her cream mixed with his cum flowed from her pussy. For a moment, they both lay on the sofa and just looked at each other and laughed.

"I think we should get out of here," Helen whispered and nudged Greg.

"Yeah, let's go before the kids see us like this."

They hastily dressed and went upstairs, Greg to their room and Helen to the bathroom. She stood in front of the mirror and smiled. It's amazing how fulfilled I feel right now, how sexy. I really needed this. I can't remember the last time I was this horny. Am I still? Oh my God!

Helen started touching her pussy. I'm still horny; I haven't done this in a long time. Why not? That's okay.

Helen sat on the shower floor. She spread her legs and rubbed her pussy. The water from the shower drips down her, and she moans and pushes his fingers into her pussy. She came. "Aaagh, aah." Oh, what an orgasm! I feel so good.

She put on her robe and went to their bedroom. Greg was already asleep when she snuggled up to him and fell asleep.

Day 2

Helen was at work, sitting at her desk completing her work tasks. During her lunch break, she called Susan, Trevor's wife.

"Hello, Susan speaking."

"Hey Susan, it's Helen."

"Oh, hello, Helen, I'm so glad to hear from you. How are you?"

"I'm fine. How are you?"

"I'm fine too."

"I'd love to see you today. Do you have time?" Helen asked, somewhat hesitant.

"I'll be at the salon until evening, but you can come by whenever you want."

"Great! I'll be there at 5:30 p. m."

"Okay, see you then."

"Bye. See you soon."

The rest of the workday, Helen went about her routine, but her mind wasn't on work. Her mind was everywhere, just not on work. Her mind was focused on formulating a plan. A trip with the family--it's going to be so nice. But where would we go? I have a meeting with Susan today. I have to plan dinner too. Oh, my mind is so distracted. Last night was like this... I can't believe how much I enjoyed sex and masturbating after a long time.

Her thoughts were jumping from one topic to another. There was too much going on in her head.

Diana, Helen's colleague, stood in front of Helen's desk and called out, "Helen!"

Her colleague stood next to her, but Helen didn't notice her.

"Mrs. Helen Smith, are you here?" Diana asked in a mischievous voice.

"Excuse me?"

"You were a thousand miles away, ha-ha."

"Yes, sorry, ha-ha."

"Are you okay?" Diana asked with concern in her voice.

"Do I look okay?" Helen replied gruffly.

"A beautiful woman always looks good," Diana tried to flatter her and settle Helen's disgruntled state.

"Oh, thanks. What did you need?" Helen looked up with a forced smile.

"I sent you the new codes yesterday, and I see you're still using the old ones."

"Oh, I completely forgot." Helen blushed in embarrassment.

"Okay, no problem. Just continue with the new ones."

Helen bobbed her head in acknowledgment. Thank God she thinks it's okay. Diana is my best friend at work. We often go out for drinks after work. Diana is younger than me, single, and living life to the fullest. Despite that, Diana was very dedicated to her job. She also knows everyone in town and always knows what's going on. I always feel good in her company.

"Diana, can I ask you something?"

"Sure, go ahead."

"But not here. It's personal..."

"We still have the right to go out and have a cigarette..."

"Let's go then."

They went out in front of the office. Diana lit a cigarette and offered it to Helen. They lit a cigarette, and Diana started the conversation. "I'm listening."

"Well... I know you know everything and everyone, and you can fix anything..." Helen started her spiel somewhat uncertainly.

"Ha-ha. Do you need weed?" Diana laughed lightheartedly.

"No. Ha-ha, actually I need Trexalinox."

"What is that?"

"It's a pill. Nadia, my girlfriend, gave it to me yesterday, and it's great. She told me that doctors are reluctant to give prescriptions, so she just went ahead and gave me one..."

"Yes, I see. I know someone who should know something about stuff like that, but you should come with me for a drink at the City Club tonight." Diana suggested.

"Okay, I'll be there at 8. Is that okay?"

"Okay, let's go back. We do need to work."

They went back to the office and continued working. Time was passing very slowly. Helen couldn't wait for the end of the working day. When she finally finished her work, she headed to Susan's hair salon. As soon as she entered the salon, Susan greeted her enthusiastically. "Hi, Helen. I'm so glad to see you. Now I can take a short break so we can go for a coffee and talk."

"Yes, that would be good." Helen smiled and nodded to the others working in the salon.

Susan turned to her workers: "Girls, I'll be back soon."

Susan and Helen sat down in a nearby cafe and started talking.

"I see your business is doing well." Helen smiled.

"Yes, I can't complain," Susan replied, letting a sense of accomplishment wash over her.

"Do you have more free time now since you have become the owner?"

"I certainly have more responsibilities, but I can always find more free time." Susan grinned.

"That's understandable."

"I thought you needed me to do your hair, but I see your hair is perfect."

"I need to talk to you for a completely different reason."

"I'm listening."

"You know how Greg and Trevor work all the time. It's just too much for me. I feel like our family has become distant and separated. I'd like to take a few days off and go on vacation. Greg agrees, but..."

"I understand. Trevor is the problem," Susan replied, shaking her head.

"Actually, Trevor doesn't even know yet." Helen looked at Susan sheepishly.

"I'll help you. Don't worry."

"I wanted to invite you to dinner tomorrow because of Mia and Lisa's jobs and to mention that we are planning to go on vacation... Of course, I thought your whole family would come to dinner."

"Great, we'll come and we'll work it out. I'll help in any way I can."

"Thank you so much. You're so wonderful."

"I'm glad I could help you."

"I'm glad you and Trevor are doing well. And how are you and Lisa getting along? How about Trevor and Tim?"

"Tim and Trevor are great. Tim has started working as a waiter. They talk like adults. Tim has a lot of respect for Trevor, but Lisa still thinks I'm to blame for the divorce. She's with Megan and rarely visits us."

"I'm so sorry about that."

"I can understand Lisa. She is mirroring Meghan's thoughts about the situation--not that I was really the cause of theirs. We hadn't even known each other back then." Susan blabbered. "I'm also glad you called me. I know Megan was your friend and that you were friends for many years. That's when I came into Trevor's life, and I don't expect to be able to replace Megan."

"Their divorce was hard on everyone, but Megan left not only Trevor but all of us. We are no longer in touch. I don't know why. I don't know what's happening to her."

"I understand that I'm not Megan. I can't replace her in your life. I don't want to impose myself, but I want to be on good terms with everyone. I'm so happy now, having a coffee and talking to you."

"I'm so glad Trevor found such a good woman."

"Thank you, you're so sweet."

"Okay, I have to go now. I still have a meeting with a colleague from work. I'll see you tomorrow, then."

"Yes, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye."

Helen went home. As soon as she got upstairs, she shouted, "Mia, Daniel. I'm home."

An unusual shout pulled Daniel and Mia out of the room. At the same moment, they opened the doors of both rooms and both shouted, "What?"

Helen shouted back. "I have an appointment with Diana soon. I'll make dinner so you can eat when Dad gets here."

Helen went to her room to change. Then she made dinner, quickly showered, dressed, put on her makeup, and headed to the City Club to meet Diana.

She went inside and checked to see if Diana had arrived yet. She saw her sitting at the table with a large glass of beer in her hand.

"Here I am," Helen chirped, walking up to Diana's table.

"I've already taken care of everything. Now the mediator will come, and you can agree on the details," Diana informed Helen in low tones.

"Great, I didn't even suspect you..."

At that moment, the waiter arrived. "Good evening."

"Okay... Oh..." Helen stuttered when she saw the waiter, who was none other than Tim. Helen was surprised and blushed.

"Mrs. Smith, how are you?" Tim asked, smiling.

"I-I... I'm fine. I'm just surprised to see you."

"Well, I'm surprised too. I didn't know you knew Diana."

"Well, now we know that we all know each other, ha-ha." Diana made light of the situation.

"Okay, then. But... that thing is for you?" Tim asked, wide-eyed.

"Well..., yeah, not really. Not really, no." Helen tried to deny it. Helen blushed again and couldn't answer properly.

"Yes, it is for her." Diana contradicted.

"Diana!" Helen whisper-shouted.

"It's okay, Mrs. Smith. Just so you know, this remains between us. It's confidential." Tim smiled reassuringly.

"Y-yeah, of course." Helen forced a smile on her face.

"So, what would you like to drink?" Tim asked, returning to his waiter mode.

"A beer, please."

"Coming right up!"

Tim went to get the order.

"For God's sake, Diana, how could you...? Do you know who he is? I'm so embarrassed now."

"How would I know? So, who is he?"

"He's the stepson of my husband's partner."

"Oh shit. But he's a serious guy, I think, and handsome, heh heh."

At that moment, Tim brought the beer.

"Here you go, Mrs. Smith." Tim put the beer in front of Helen.

"Thanks, Tim. And please, call me Helen."

"Okay, Helen, and... that will be resolved tomorrow. How can I contact you?"

"I'll give you my number, and you can call or message."

"Okay, girls, enjoy! If you need anything, I'm here."

"Oh, he's so nice." Diana enthused.

"Please, Diana!"

"Okay, okay, ha-ha."

The two women ordered more beers. After drinking her second beer, Helen opened up. "You know my husband started his own business; he works full-time at the company. Daniel failed his exam..."

Diane, who can handle alcohol much better, listened attentively. They drank a few more beers and talked. Time passed quickly. It was already 11 o'clock.

"Oh, it's so late, and I feel a little drunk. I should get going." Helen mumbled.

"Yes, it's time to go home," Diana agreed.

"Yes, let's go."

They got up from the table and left the bar. Helen came home and went straight to her room. Oh, Greg is sleeping. I'm going to sleep too. He better not see me so drunk.

Day 3

While Helen was at work, her phone pinged. She looked at the message:

I confirm that we will be coming for dinner at 8 pm. See you. Susan

Then Helen forwarded the same message to Greg. She continued working while her mind was miles away. What should I prepare for dinner?. I know I won't have much time to prepare. Maybe I can make lasagna?

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her phone. She saw Tim had sent her a message:

I will bring it tonight. T

Helen continued working when Diana came to her. "How are you? You are so pretty today. Aren't you hungover?"

"No, I'm fine. I have guests tonight. I'm just thinking about what to make for dinner."

"Oh, I understand. But you have to finish that lot today." Diana waved toward a pile of receipts.

Right after work, Helen rushed home and prepared dinner, and soon Greg arrived.

"Hi, dear."

"Hi, darling. How are you?"

"I'm fine. I'm just finishing making lasagna."

"Let me help."

"No, you don't have to. Just check our wine and beer supplies."

"Yeah, I'll do that right away."

It was almost 8 o'clock, and everything was ready for dinner. The Smith family was waiting for the guests on the porch. Trevor's family arrived soon, got out of the car, and everyone greeted each other. The women exchanged compliments about their looks and entered the house.

Mia and Lisa immediately went to Mia's room, while Helen and Susan, Trevor's wife, went to the kitchen. The men's section stayed outside a little longer.

Susan was helping Helen in the kitchen. Susan admired Helen's kitchen. "Your kitchen is really functional. I really like the layout. There is a lot of space, and everything is at hand."

"Yes, it is. But I wish I had more time to spend in the kitchen. I used to love cooking."

"I know. I loved cooking too when I was a housewife." Susan commiserated.

"Do you like spicy salad?"

"Yes. But Trevor doesn't like any salad. You can spice it up; it won't bother him."

"I hope everyone likes lasagna. You know I have some Italian blood, ha-ha."

"The only person I'm not sure about is Lisa--she doesn't like anything."

"Yes. Same as Mia. They think they can live off air."

"That's normal at their age."

"We'll put two tables together. I thought you and I would sit at this end, closer to the kitchen, with Greg and Trevor opposite us and the kids on the side. What do you think?"

"Yes. That's okay."

After a while, everyone sits down at the table. Greg poured everyone some wine.

Greg started talking about the wine. "This is a 2012 Merlot; it's ideal to drink at room temperature--"

Trevor interrupted, "Greg, we know you have great knowledge of wine. Let's drink it first, and then we'll see for ourselves."

Everyone laughed.

"Yes, I actually wanted to say on what occasion we met here--" Greg started.

Trevor interrupted Greg again. "Well, it's because of your cognac, not the wine, right?"

Everyone laughed again. Trevor and Greg were in the mood to joke around. The cognac obviously had affected Trevor.

"Shut up, Trevor. Let Greg finally speak his mind," Susan interjected.

"Thank you, Susan. We are gathered here in honor of Lisa and Mia's employment. On this occasion, I propose a toast," and Greg lifted his glass.

Everyone raised their glasses, and Greg continued. "Girls, may your work in our company be successful."

Everyone echoed, "Cheers!"

Helen brought the lasagna to the table. Susan offered to help, but Helen declined.

Helen cut the lasagna and put it on plates while Susan passed plates to each person. They started eating.

"Mmmm, this is sooo delicious," Susan gushed.

"Thank you, Susan." Helen was happy to be appreciated for her hard work.

"Even Lisa is finally eating," Trevor poked at his daughter.

"Ha-ha, very funny." Lisa countered.

"Mrs. Smith, it's really delicious," Tim added to the discourse after swallowing a huge forkful.

"Thank you, Tim. I'm glad you like it."

"And... hey, do you remember when Greg and I were..." Trevor started the old stories that everyone already knows. Everyone ate every last piece, and Trevor and Greg made everyone laugh with their stories.

"Okay, Lisa and I are going to my room. We need to talk a lot about work." Mia promptly took Lisa's hand, and they went to her room.

At the same time, Daniel announced, "Tim and I are going to my room."

The parents were left alone and continued talking.

"I'm happy for the girls, but I think they should have gone to college," Greg reiterated his previous standpoint.

Helen just shook her head. "Come on, Greg, it's always been known that Mia doesn't want to study. She developed her worldview early, and it should be respected. She would rather volunteer in Africa for a year than graduate from any university."

Susan piped up. "That's right. Just like with Lisa, I saw her talent for drawing. She doesn't want to be a doctor or an engineer, but she needs to be allowed to draw and develop her talent."

"I agree," Trevor stated. "Look at Tim. Susan told me Tim had started earning money as soon as he started high school. And as soon as he settled here, he found a job within 2 days. He has his own life goal, and that is to have his own private bar. It's just a matter of time before he achieves it."

Susan touched Helen under the table, signaling that it was time for what they had agreed upon.

"Yes, that's right. The important thing in life is to do what you love. I'm sure Helen is very frustrated with the work she has to do. Is that right, Helen?" Susan added.

"Yes, you can't imagine how hard it is. Sometimes it drives me crazy."

Trevor was surprised. "Really, I didn't know that was the case. So why don't you change jobs?"

Helen huffed. "It's not that simple. First, you have to think it through and make a plan. Greg is at work all day. I never see him, and we don't have time to talk. With all the responsibilities at work and at home, I'm not ready to make such a decision on my own. And then there are the children too, of course."

"Of course, you can't make such a decision by yourself. You are sharing responsibilities for the family." Susan nodded knowingly at Greg.

"I need two weeks of vacation to think it over," Helen griped.

"Greg, you should take a few days off and be with your wife. Go somewhere," Susan urged.

"Yes, I should. If Trevor can shoulder responsibility at work alone," Greg said tentatively.

"I don't know; we have a few customer meetings and a project presentation... It's going to be a financially crucial contract..." Trevor mused.

"Come on, Trevor!" his wife urged him.

"The presentation is ready. You only need to study it," Greg pressed the issue.

"Lisa will also be in the office to help you," Susan added.

"Okay, maybe I can take care of that," Trevor folded under the pressure.

"Besides, you'll go on a holiday after me," Greg dangled the carrot before Trevor.

"Let me see the presentation!" Trevor demanded, becoming all business.

"Let's go to my home office," Greg offered, standing up and ushering Trevor towards his home office.

When Greg and Trevor left, Helen and Susan looked at each other with satisfaction. "Thank you," Helen whispered.

Helen and Susan cleared the table and washed the dishes, then sat down in the living room. They talked for a while, and then Daniel and Tim came down to them. Daniel sat down with Helen and Susan, and Tim went to light a cigarette on the balcony. Hmm, how am I going to meet Tim alone now without anyone noticing? I have to think of something.

"Excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom." Helen stood up, trying to get Tim's attention.

"Go, Daniel will keep me company." Susan smiled.

Helen went towards the bathroom. I don't need the bathroom, but I must cover my tracks.

She quickly left the bathroom and went to the balcony where Tim was.

As she stepped out, Tim turned and said, "Hey, I've brought you..."

Helen was standing near Tim, and he handed her the pills.

"You said 300, right?" Helen asked in hushed tones.

"Yes, 300."

Helen gives him the money and puts her hand on his head. "Please, Tim, keep this a secret, okay?"

Tim patted her shoulder and said, "No problem, Helen, no one will know.

Helen and Tim returned from the balcony, and after a while, Greg and Trevor came into the living room as well.

When everyone settled in the living room, Trevor announced, "Okay, time to go."

Trevor, Susan, Tim, and Lisa headed for the car, with Helen and Greg following behind. Daniel and Mia slowly followed behind them.

Susan was the first to thank the hosts: "Good night, and thanks for a great dinner."

"Thanks for coming," Helen said while air-kissing Susan.

The men wished each other "Good night." The kids all waved to everyone and echoed, "Bye."

Greg hugged Helen, and they entered the house. They laughed contentedly.

"This was a success," Helen sighed.

"Yes, very successful. Thanks to you." Greg nuzzled Helen's neck.

"Susan helped a lot."

Greg snickered, "Yes, I think the cognac helped a lot too, ha-ha."

Helen laughed with him.

"Now, we can really start planning our vacation. I still have to go to the office tomorrow to get everything ready, and then I'm finally free after such a long time of constant work."

Helen agreed, "Yes, and I'll let the company know tomorrow that I'll be on vacation for the next 2 weeks."

"Great. I need to take a shower now to help sober up. The combination of cognac and wine has affected me," Greg commented.

"Yes, it had obviously affected Trevor too.

"Yes, it did, I have to admit."

Helen petted Greg's shoulder. "Go take a shower and go to bed. I'll finish cleaning."

They parted ways--Helen to the kitchen, Greg to the bathroom--and wished each other "Good night."

Helen cleaned the kitchen, tidied up, and then took a hot bath, after which she went to bed.

Day 4

Helen slept longer than usual. As soon as she woke up... Oh, it's almost 10 o'clock. How could I have slept so long? Kids, breakfast, and Marie is coming...

She got out of bed and dressed, went downstairs, and got groceries from the fridge. By the time Greg came down, Helen had made coffee, dusted, and finally found time to drink coffee in peace. She then returned to the kitchen to prepare lunch.

"Hey!" Greg greeted Helen with a peck on her lips.

Helen welcomed him with a beautiful smile. "Hey, you're already done, huh?"

"Yeah, finally. I can't remember the last time I had free time.

"I don't remember either. I slept until 10 o'clock, ha-ha. And I've been drinking coffee until now, ha-ha-ha."

"That's right, you deserve a break."

"My sister, Marie, is coming today. I don't think I told you."

"Wow, I haven't seen her for a long time."

"Okay, I'll start making lunch. She'll definitely be hungry when she arrives.

"Are the kids upstairs?"

"Probably, I haven't seen them today. They're probably looking for holiday deals online."

"Okay, I'll be in the office, call some people for advice, and check out the offers too."

Helen continued to prepare lunch, and soon the doorbell rang. It must be Marie, Helen thought, hurrying to open the door.

"Hello, sister." Marie stepped inside wearing a tracksuit and carrying a small backpack--not looking the part of a university professor at all. She looked like a teenager, not a woman in her late thirties.

"Hello," Helen welcomed Marie.

As soon as Marie entered the house, the two sisters hugged and kissed.

"Oh Marie, a lot is going on here. We're all worried about Daniel. I really don't know how I missed noticing that something was wrong. I didn't even know Mia was starting to work for Greg at the company. We took a few days off, and now we're all going on vacation together for 10 days..." Helen started, trying to unload all her worries.

"Hey Helen, stop talking so fast. We have all day and all night to talk. I want to see Daniel first. He's the purpose of my visit, right? No?"

"Yes, you're right. He's upstairs."

Marie went upstairs, and Helen continued to prepare lunch. After a while, Marie returned to the kitchen.

"So, Greg is at work?"

"No, he's here in the office," Helen replied, nodding her head towards the home office.

"Okay. I'm going to say hello to him."

A little later, everyone was sitting at the table and having lunch.

"How can your meat always be so tender?" Marie complimented Helen's cooking.

"Ha-ha, not always..." Helen laughed.

"I still only know how to fry eggs," Marie lamented.

"Yeah, and that's why you are not married yet," Greg joked.

Marie laughed and pointed her middle finger at Greg. Everyone laughed.

"Okay. I came here expecting a war zone in the house, but everything seems perfect."

"That's easy. We lied to you just so you would come and see us." Daniel grinned.

"I would think you might have just done that, ha-ha. Just shut up; you are the one who caused the problems." Marie retorted.

"Who, me? Nooo, ha-ha, not me!" Daniel went along with the ribbing.

"Mia, you are the only bright spot in this house," Marie added and looked lovingly at Mia.

Greg enjoyed the banter. Oh, this woman is always so cheerful and always joking. I like that.

After lunch, everyone was in the living room, and they all had a few suggestions for where to go on vacation. Marie had a bunch of pamphlets in her lap.

"Helen, look at this..." Marie waved a pamphlet.

"Let me see. Oh wow! It's so beautiful. Mia, Daniel, look!" Helen exclaimed.

"Oh yeah, it's great!" Mia agreed.

"I like it," Daniel added with a grin.

"I've seen that resort in Angel's Bay before," Greg remarked.

"It's beautiful, but it's really expensive," Helen said as she was perusing the pamphlet.

Greg looked around expectantly. "Hey, if everyone likes Angel's Resort, then let's go there. It doesn't matter how much it costs. Anyway, we can go by car, so we'll save money on plane tickets. Is everyone okay with it?"

There was a cacophony of affirmations: "Yes!" "I'm in!" "Oh, yeah!"

Helen pondered, Hmm, well, it's a bit expensive. But the kids like it... Greg agrees...

"Okay, we've decided, then let's go. When do we go?" Greg asked and clapped his hands together.

"Yes, we can go on Monday. 10 days should be enough." Helen mused aloud.

"Why Monday? Can't we go tomorrow?" Greg was hyped by the thought of getting on vacation as soon as possible.

"Yes, why not?" Mia pressed on.

Daniel joined in, "I don't mind."

Helen pondered, "Oh well. We have time to get ready today."

"Yes, you should go as soon as possible, ha-ha-ha," Marie laughed.

Greg took out his phone and booked a three-bedroom apartment at a resort in Angel Bay. "Okay, they have room starting tomorrow. Our reservation is from 6 p. m. Okay, I'll get everything ready, and I'll need to rest the rest of the day with the TV. I don't want to start driving tomorrow tired."

"Yes, take a rest, darling." Helen hugged Greg.

Everyone left, and Helen and Marie were left sitting in the living room.

"I'm so excited now," Helen remarked, smiling.

"I bet you are. Today is not an easy day for YOU. You have to prepare for the trip."

"You will help me, right?"

"Yes, if you follow my plan," Marie said half-jokingly.

"You always have a plan." Helen shoulder-butted Marie.

"Yes, sister. A good plan is half the battle won."

"I'm too tired to listen to your plan. Just do it."

"Listen to me! First, go make us some coffee while I clear the table and dishes."

"Coffee sounds good."

"After the coffee break, we'll start packing the bags. That's going to take a long time, I'm sure."

"And?"

"Then we'll order pizza for dinner. And after dinner, we'll have time to talk a little, and you'll go to bed," Marie replied in a matter-of-fact voice.

"You'll sleep here, right?" Helen clarified.

"No, I have other plans for tonight." Marie smiled smugly.

"Hmm. Oookay. I understand."

In the evening, Helen and Marie are sitting outside on the balcony.

"Okay. I think it's time to go. We've talked a lot. You need to rest, and I'm going into town."

"Are you sure you won't sleep here?"

"Yes, I'm sure."

"Do you need a house key? Maybe you'll change your mind." Helen worried--always the mother hen.

"No. Let me kiss you, and I'm leaving."

They kissed, and Marie left, and Helen sat there thinking, Marie is really helping me a lot. Everything is ready, so I can sleep now. I still can't believe we're leaving tomorrow. I have to go to sleep.

Day 5

Helen woke up at 5 a. m. She showered, got dressed, and went down to the kitchen. After a while, Daniel comes in, "Good morning. Mom!"

"Good morning. Are you ready?"

"Oh yes. I am."

Mia came into the kitchen, shouting, "Good morning, everyone."

"Good morning, honey." Helen welcomes Mia and brings coffee for everyone.

At that moment Greg entered. "Good morning, are you ready?"

"Everything is ready. You can take our things to the car while I prepare breakfast."

Greg and Daniel took their luggage to the car and went back to the kitchen. Breakfast was ready.

Greg summed up the day's plans. "Okay, it'll take 11-12 hours to get there. I figured if we stop 3-4 times, we should get there around 10-11 pm, taking into account the time difference. Daniel and I will take turns driving. Is that okay? The women will sit in the back seat and sleep, ha-ha."

Daniel smiled widely. "Great, thank you for trusting my driving skills on such a long trip. Anyway, I've prepared some music for you to listen to on the way."

"Oh no, we'll probably listen to heavy metal." Mia groaned.

"No, there are a few rock tunes for me, 80s disco for Dad, ballads for Mom, and New Age for you," Daniel hurried to reassure everyone.

"Oh, thank you very much. I'm sooo relieved," Mia grumbled in a mocking voice.

Helen tried to settle everyone down. "Great, now can we go?"

The trip was pleasant and without any unexpected events. As planned, they arrived at the hotel just after 8 p. m. They checked in at the reception and were given the key to a large apartment on the top floor of the hotel. It was a large apartment with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room...

Daniel looked around. "Wow, this looks perfect!"

Mia yawned. "Great, every room has a bathroom. Guys, I wish you a good night. I'm going to take a shower and sleep. I'll unpack tomorrow."

Daniel was tired from driving all day. "Good night, I'll do the same."

"Good night. I need a warm bath and sleep." Helen joined the others.

"And don't forget the agreement. Ten days without a cell phone. Right?" Greg called out to his kids.

"Okay, ha-ha, I'll hold you to it, though." Mia chuckled.

"Agreed." Daniel nodded solemnly.

Helen went to the bathroom, filled the bathtub with water, and lay down in it. Oh, this is so good. I needed this. I'm so tired from the long trip. I feel like I could fall asleep here. And with that thought, she got out of the tub, dried herself, and went to bed.

Day 6

Early in the morning, Helen woke up. What's that noise? Who is Greg talking to?

Helen came out of the room and saw Greg talking to some of the staff. Everyone woke up and watched what was happening.

Helen was the first to formulate thoughts. "What happened?" she asked.

"I don't know," Greg admitted, "he said to call Susan urgently."

He took his phone and called Susan, and the others waited with bated breath.

Helen was nervously pacing during the phone call. As soon as Susan disconnected, she asked, "What happened?"

Greg summarized the call. "Well, Trevor and Lisa were in a car accident this morning. They're in the hospital. There's no concrete information, but the most important thing is that they're alive, although they have serious injuries."

Helen went as white as a sheet. "Oh, my God, that's terrible!"

"Oh, my God!" Daniel exclaimed and went to embrace his mother.

Helen asked the obvious question, "What shall we do now?"

Scratching his chin, Greg replied, "I don't know. Trevor has a meeting tomorrow about a half-million-dollar contract."

"Oh no, does that mean you have to go home?" Helen asked anxiously.

"Yes, I have to, but if Trevor isn't seriously injured, then I needn't. Or I can go anyway and come back in two days." Greg sighed.

"Yes, I understand. You have to go back." Helen closed her eyes for a moment as if drawing on her inner strength.

"I'm furious now." Greg huffed.

"I think I should call Susan again." Helen fumbled and shook as she punched Susan's number into her phone, who responded to the call on the first ring.

"Oh, Helen... I'm sorry to interrupt your vacation..." Susan started apologizing.

"Come on, Susan, who would you call if not us? Did you call the hospital? How are Lisa and Trevor?" Helen started her rapid-fire questions.

"The doctor said not to worry; they're not in danger of dying, but Trevor needs surgery right away. That's all I know. Lisa's injuries are minor," Susan replied in a shaky voice.

"Okay, calm down now; we'll take care of everything."

"Oh, Helen, I'm so sorry..." Susan sobbed.

"It's okay, Susan. Just let us know if anything changes. Keep us informed," Helen soothed Susan.

"I will, of course. Goodbye."

While Helen was talking to Susan, the three of them sat there waiting for her to give them more information.

"And?" Greg asked impatiently.

"Um, Trevor is going to have surgery," Helen said flatly.

"Shit. And what about Lisa?" Mia asked, but her question remained unanswered.

"Okay, I'll get ready and go." Greg turned around to go and pack.

"Wait, you can't do it alone. Someone will go with you. I don't know, maybe I should go with you, and Daniel and Mia should stay here," Helen suggested.

"Well, honey. You deserve this break, and you need it. I'll go alone."

"I can go with Dad, and Mum and Mia stay here," Daniel interjected.

"Yes, maybe. But it might be better if Mia went with Dad because she can help him at the office and home." Helen said.

Daniel, nodding his head, agreed, "Yes, that's true."

"I agree, but I think Mom can provide more emotional support. Mom should go with Dad so they can return in 2-3 days," Mia reasoned.

Chapter Ten
By my fifth conscious summoning, the novelty had worn off.
When the world froze the next evening, I made myself just as still and waited. The fire came, followed by a flash of purple, and just like every time before, I was carried away from the comfort of my apartment.
I was back in the large circle. My three masters were lined up waiting for me just a few feet outside of it....

Welcome back gentle reader
Every D&D campaign I've played in always had its own flare of how the DM interpreted the rules. One of the campaigns I ran had a couple DMs playing in it, and at times the rule debates would get heated. Usually over the dumbest things. Like the volume of a fireball. A 20 foot radius sphere equates to 33 ten cubic foot sections on a map--if you're underground. It was fun screwing with the party by determining where that spread actually went. Above ground was a different matter. ...

Chapter 3 -- Walk Like The Man
Thursday January 26
The gang was all together at lunch, every one of them wearing sunglasses. I looked around, perplexed. Then Phil's girlfriend, Jill, fanned her face dramatically and exclaimed with a fake Southern drawl, "Ah do declare, we are in the presence of a movie star!"...

The Abbey Farm Curse.
Chapter 2..
You know what it's like when you wake up disorientated in a strange room and so I woke in the morning wondering who the hell had been in during the night and installed such a monster of a fireplace in my lovely modern bedroom, and then I remembered where I was and that this was a very different and very much older bedroom. What made it all the more confusing was the dream I'd just been having in which a fire had been burning in that very same fireplace, although in my...
