Kingdom Come Ch. 01

Hello all! I'm releasing a new series today and plan on uploading weekly chapters on Wednesdays! Before anything else, I wanted to give a brief synopsis to give a better context for the story.

This story follows two best friends who get Isekai'd into a cheesy Erotic Otome game they're fans of. The main character, Blair, is forced into the protagonist's role. The girls can't go home (because of an ill-timed truck collision,) so their only option is to try to get through the game without getting any bad ends and then make lives for themselves in this new fantasy kingdom. Blair will amass a reverse harem as the story continues but will only romance one man at a time before moving on to the next while progressing the "plot" ;) of the story. It is a bit of a slow-burn, emphasizing romance and comedy between the sex scenes.

Thank you for reading!

One is typically never at home with the concept of death, no matter how self-assured they might act. Luna was a normal teenage girl up until the very moment she wasn't. She had never put much thought into any form of death, let alone her own. A half-hearted atheist with a promising college scholarship, a plethora of friends, and a healthy body, there wasn't much consideration the nineteen-year-old had to make on any front. She wasn't anticipating death; all of her friends and family were fine and healthy.Kingdom Come Ch. 01 фото

Luna's story was so short and had such a bittersweet end. She died next to her best friend, doing what they loved best: eating an abundance of snacks while playing a cheesy otome game on a popular console that will remain unnamed.

She died as she lived, taken aback by the bullshit descending upon her. Namely, the drunk driver that swerved into Luna's living room (unfortunately, facing the front street, bad feng shui takes yet another victim.) Luna's friend was killed on impact, but Luna held on for a few seconds longer. Staring up at the ceiling and wondering how pathetic she'd look once her roommates found her body. Lifeless and limp on the floor, the TV still blaring with an unholy sex scene for all to see.

She wished she could at least turn off the TV. Her hands twitched limply, but her heart gave out before she could move an inch.

Her last thoughts were pretty brutal, and probably shouldn't be put to paper. But she was mostly lamenting the fact that alcoholics exist. Who else would be stupid enough to drive a truck at top speeds through a suburban neighborhood?

Fuck drunk drivers.

Blair sits up in her bed, breathless, clutching at silken sheets as her heart beats erratically, threatening to burst out of her chest and make a break for it.

The dream she had moments ago was so strange. She had dreamed of a million fragments coming together to weave a narrative tapestry. She saw the beginning, middle, and tragic end of a girl whose name she can hardly remember. But she remembers the shining moon, smiling down on her as a child--a child whose face is now blocked out by a much paler one. A face with bright red locks framing it nicely, much thinner, but in an unhealthy way, malnourished, even.

Blair wrenches herself out of bed, nearly tripping over her feet as she runs over to the mirror at her desk. A fine heirloom that costs a pretty penny, but is practically nothing to her family in the grand scheme of things. A token from her grandmother that she's now using to see the truth of the situation.

Her mind reels as she sees a face that's oh so familiar, and yet distant from her tangible memories. It's a face that belongs in a photograph, on the cover of a book, or within the confines of a raunchy 3/10 IGN video game.

Blair squeaks, wanting to scream, but her throat comes up empty-handed. She doesn't understand how this is possible. She was in her living room, playing said game with her friend, when they were brutally murdered.

She has a very quick ego death as her mind goes a million miles a minute. She considers the possibility that the Buddhists were ultimately right (reincarnation) and settles on that conclusion before bringing her awareness to more critical matters.

No matter which religion ended up being right, she figured she would accept it (having assumed she was on the winning team by remaining staunchly atheist). But this? This is something else, something impossible. And yet here she is, alive, and yet not quite herself.

Her memories are muddled, blending her old life with her new. She can't make heads or tails of anything, and the room begins to spin, threatening to force her to the ground, when she hears a voice she recognizes.

"Luna!" Her neck snaps up upon hearing her name, her real name, and her eyes fill with tears as Sophie barges into her dormitory. Upon looking at each other, they recognize the other for who they really are.

They hug, and it's quite a tender reunion, all things considered. Putting aside the absurdity of the whole thing, of course.

"Luna, what's going on? Why are we inside the game?" Sophie whispers, intonation similar to that of her friends, as she's always known her. They grew up best friends, so Blair would recognize her speech no matter the body she inhabits. Save for something that can't speak, like a dog. Thank god they were playing a game with humans and not PocketCreatures™ before they passed.

"I think we got isekaied into the game we were playing," Blair whispers back, not trusting her voice not to crack. She's so relieved that she wants to cry, but instead, she squares her shoulders and starts looking around the room, figuring they should make a move together. Two heads are better than one.

But as she continues to explain the situation, she becomes more stumped. What exactly is their end goal here? They can't go back--not after...

"We died?" Sophie asks, horror dawning on her expression, and Blair winces, lamenting her crude explanation of the situation. Sophie must be more confused; she died instantly, after all. She doesn't even remember dying.

Blair saves her the more traumatic rundown, but still explains what she figures is the truth. They died and somehow got teleported here. But now they're trapped, as they can't go home, they have no bodies to return to.

Luckily, there is also no family to miss them too much, either. Her friend has been estranged since she left for college, and Blair was raised by her aunt and uncle, who are now conveniently retired and traveling the world.

Despite the horror of the situation, something begins to dawn on the girls slowly but surely, making them grin at one another, already feeling at home in their new bodies, puppeteering them perfectly.

Nobody at home is going to miss them too badly. Sure, their roommates will have a hell of a time cleaning up the place, but nobody will mourn them in earnest. With no way to get home and not much waiting for them, there's no reason not to take their time and explore the world. They can think of a game plan once they've gotten their bearings and understand more about the world and its intricacies. It appears to be much more detailed than the shoddy 2D drawings, and Blair now has access to all the memories of the princess, some more detailed than the game extrapolated on, and some the game never mentioned at all. They're the memories of a fully fleshed-out character she must now play.

A bell chimes, alerting the girls to the beginning of the day, and they look down at their clothes, noting that they're both already conveniently dressed in their school uniforms. They figure that if there's ever a time to start scoping the place out and figuring out how to lead their new lives, they may as well start now. There's no lingering repercussions from the accident save for copious amounts of trauma Blair can unpack at a later time. For now, she's eager to get down to the dining hall and see some of the popular characters in the game.

Blair is bouncing on her heels as she walks, oddly chipper. Sophie is also excited, stopping to gasp and point at famous landmarks as the girls pass them. Some students around them take notice, eyes widening in panic as they lean in to whisper their astonishment in hushed tones, quiet, but loud enough that the girls can hear them.

Blair was a weak protagonist in the games, plagued with bouts of shyness that made it nearly impossible to unlock certain spicy scenes without brute-forcing one's way through the game or looking up a walkthrough. Sophie was the traditional villain, always dour while bullying the youngest princess of the nation.

And here they are, practically best friends on one random Tuesday morning, it's bound to get the school talking.

Students gawk as the pair excitedly chit-chat, astonished to see the complete change in their personality and how well they're getting along. The girls pay them no mind. Too happy with their recent discoveries, they neglect to notice the hostility around them until it's too late.

Blair is used to being the target of Sophie's bullying in game, so when Sophie suddenly hits the floor, crying out in pain from being shoved from behind, it takes Blair aback. Her mind comes to a sudden halt at the same time her feet do, eyes wide and unable to understand the scene before her.

Adrenaline kicks in, coursing through her veins as she whirls to see the culprit, but the culprit's gaze lingers not on her, but on Sophie.

"What the fuck are you doing?" A man, Blair recognizes as a background character of Sophie's entourage, spits at the poor girl on the floor. Her arms are shaking as she tries to right herself, but Duncan puts his foot on her back, pushing her back onto the floor. She cries out in pain again, and Blair makes to jump into the fray, but is silenced by Duncan roughly shoving her back a few paces.

"Not your time, girl." He hisses, sneering as he barely takes the time to acknowledge her presence. His ire is directed at Sophie, and Blair can hardly understand why. They're on the same team, so why is he...?

"The fuck are you doing with the halfie? Acting like best friends all of a sudden, are you out of your goddamn mind?" He shouts, his voice attracting the attention of the students nearby, who have stopped to watch the scuffle. Some look surprised, but others seem bored, like their altercations are a poor performance to be viewed in passing.

Blair is torn between scooping Sophie up and running away with the poor girl, or socking Duncan, then promptly going for the jugular. The world seems to slow down as her breathing hitches, she's hardly able to take in a full breath, and she doesn't understand the feeling now swelling in her chest. It's not one she's ever experienced, not in any true sense.

Not until she died.

Fear. She's petrified. Her hands tremble as her feet stay firmly rooted to the dingy carpeted floor. She wants to move, to scream, to do anything, but she's terrified.

Sophie rises to her full height on shaking knees, scuffed up from the nasty fall she took. She smiles, and it's lopsided, though it's not totally out of place on Sophie's face. Reminiscent of a cruel sneer, one Blair recognizes all too well.

"You've got a lot of nerve talking to me that way." She spits out, getting up into Duncan's face in the blink of an eye. She stands on her tiptoes as she jabs a finger into his chin, eyes glinting maliciously as she barks out orders.

"Don't ever talk to me that way again when I'm working on a project." She cries out, her voice reverberating around the now-silent hall leading to the dining area. Most students are frozen, watching the altercation with intense gazes, glancing at each other in confusion.

"What project?" Duncan asks, curiosity getting the better of him, and giving Sophie an edge in the conversation.

"Oh, now you want to know?" Sophie cocks her head to the side as she sneers. "You couldn't be bothered to ask before you blew my cover in front of that thing." She jerks her head back to Blair, and several students gasp.

Her blonde curls swing violently as she sweeps them out of the way, presenting a picture-perfect image of a rich noble. Despite taking a nasty spill, she still looks pristine, befitting of the high class from the sheer poise she retains. She captivatingly commands the room's attention like how one might take charge when steering a ship, ordering the crew around while maintaining the correct course. She has everyone hanging onto her every word, eager to hear what she has to say, including, but not limited to, Blair.

Blair hardly recognizes her friend, but she sees something in this version of Sophie that doesn't quite fit, like a puzzle piece oriented the wrong way.

"I was pretending to be her friend to see who she wants to take her to the ball." Sophie crosses her arms, smirking as she knows she's got Duncan backed into a proverbial corner. This was the tactic Sophie used at the beginning of the game, faux-befriending the protagonist, only to spill who she had a crush on, hoping to sour her reputation and drive off the first love interest.

It wasn't slated to happen this soon, or in this way, and here Sophie is taking full advantage of the script like it's nothing. Blair's heart soars, amazed and a little frightened by her friend's ability to lie. She's never seen her act before, and if they make it out of this scuffle with all their limbs intact, she should try her hand at it in a more serious capacity.

"Y-you were?" Duncan stammers, looking around sheepishly as several members of Sophie's posse turn angry eyes on him. Clearly, he was the ringleader in all of this and broke ranks to accuse one of the other rich snobs of fraternizing with the enemy. Or something equally outrageous to that effect. It's all beyond Blair, but she can tell when someone's due for a beating, and with the way the rich kids are closing in on him, she'd wager that he's in for more than an earful later.

"Get him out of my sight." Sophie huffs, lightly waving her hand, signaling she's done with the whole thing.

Most other students are as well, seeing as there's no juicy gossip to be had, nor is an actual fight about to break out--just a boring misunderstanding.

"Don't ever pull a stunt like that again. You've completely ruined my plan." Sophie grumbles as she stalks off toward the dormitories, but not before sending Blair a pointed glance.

Blair recognizes that look, and scurries off after Sophie once enough time has passed, and those around her won't suspect they're heading in the same direction, back towards her dorm.
