Joseph and Carrie had lived on Avery Lane for nearly fifteen years now. The cul-de-sac community was friendly, and though they had seen families come and go, they had many friends there. Joseph was happy in his marriage. He'd never had any doubts about being with Carrie, and nothing had ever drawn his eye from her.
Not until Danny moved in next door.
The house beside them had been vacant for two years now after their elderly neighbors had left it to their grandchildren to sell. Joseph had been starting to wonder if they were even interested in selling it by that point. Then the moving truck pulled up in the middle of June, followed shortly by a little black car. Out hopped Danny.
Joseph was in the middle of doing his oil change when he heard the truck. He slid out from under his car and lifted his head to see over the fence. He saw a tall, skinny man with copper hair that swooped down to one side. The man's tanned skin was spattered with freckles along his shoulders, chest, and face. He unlocked the door for two men, then the three of them began to unload the truck. He looked considerably younger, maybe half of Joseph's forty-five years.
Despite his lanky appearance, Danny was strong. He helped one of the movers lift a couch out of the truck and through the door, and even carried a solid wood nightstand like it was nothing. The summer heat had all of them sweating by the end of it.
He decided to go over and say hello once the movers had unpacked the truck and were loading up to leave. He had brought a cooler of waters out to stay cool while he worked on his car. It wouldn't hurt to offer a bottle to the new neighbor. Besides, Carrie would probably be sending him over soon enough with a plate of cookies as a welcoming gift. He might as well get acquainted.
"Thirsty?" He called over the short dividing fence between their driveways, holding up one of the dripping bottles of water. The man wiped his face on his tank-top and came over to meet him. He took the bottle gratefully. Half of it was gone before he spoke.
"Ah, thank you," he said after chugging nearly half the bottle. Droplets of water ran down his throat, mixing with the sweat dampening his shirt. For some reason, Joseph found himself staring at the beads racing across his skin.
"No problem. We got some mighty hot weather right now," Joseph replied. "The name's Joseph." He held his hand out to shake.
"Danny," the man said, taking his hand in a firm grip.
"Are you going to be our new neighbor?"
Danny's hair bounced when he nodded. "I am. I just finished signing all the paperwork last week."
"I've visited the place a few times. The family before you put a lot of work into remodeling that place. I wish I'd had half that man's skill." Indeed it was a lovely place, Joseph thought. The house was two stories, painted sage green with white trim, and it was beautiful inside. They'd even installed a large back deck and multiple raised garden beds in the back.
"Oh I know, isn't it incredible? The kitchen and the backyard were big selling points for me. I've never had so much space to garden. I'm going to have a busy summer ahead of me!" His flushed face lit up with a grin.
Joseph's interest was piqued by the mention of gardening. "Ah, got a green thumb, do you?"
"I've only ever lived in an apartment, so all I have are a few houseplants, but I'm eager to start a proper garden. I know I'll be a bit late to planting this year, but I can at least prepare it for next year." He seemed a little put out by this.
"Oh there's some stuff you can still put in the ground once it's all ready. You know, I run a landscaping business, myself. I've got some experience setting up a garden. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask. That place has run wild these last few years," Joseph offered.
"That's sweet of you," Danny said. "I'll certainly take you up on that once I get a proper look at it all." He leaned onto the fence and tilted his head. Something in his tone sounded weird, but Joseph shook it off.
"Of course, if you need anything you can just knock on my door. If I'm not home, my wife will be. You can let her know to send me over once I get back."
"Will do." Danny looked over his shoulder at his new house. "Sorry to cut this meeting short, but I've got to go start unpacking," he said with an apologetic smile.
"No worries," Joseph waved him off. "I'm sure you have a lot to do. You have a good rest of your day."
"You too, Joseph." Danny turned and sauntered away, his hips swaying slightly. Joseph didn't know why it caught his attention, but he blushed when he saw the man looking back at him with a smirk on his face.
He finished up the oil change and went inside to talk to Carrie. He found her in the kitchen, staring intently at a cookbook. She was wearing her pink apron. Joseph came up behind her and placed his hands on her hips. He leaned in close to kiss her long black hair.
"I thought you might be interested to know we have a new neighbor next door," he said, laying his chin on her shoulder.
"Next door? I guess that's what all that noise was about. Well, go on. Tell me more," she insisted, turning away from the book to face him. He chuckled and planted another kiss on her forehead. "Is it a family? Do they have kids?"
"Just one guy. His name is Danny. He seems like a nice kid, in his mid-twenties, I think. He's interested in gardening," he explained. "It seemed like he's gonna take over the old garden they left behind."
"Oh, did you tell him you are a landscaper? You could help him wrangle that wild mess behind his house. He sure has his work cut out for him already."
"Yes, love. I told him to ask any time he needs help," he assured her.
"Good," she said, smiling up at him. Suddenly she gasped and turned back to her cookbook. She started flipping through the pages. "I need to make him some housewarming cookies! What do you think he likes?"
"I only talked to him for a few minutes. I don't know his cookie preferences," he laughed.
"Oh, you're no help. I suppose I could go traditional, make a batch of chocolate chip. Or do you think sugar cookies? I do still have that peanut butter cookie recipe laying around somewhere." Carrie was deep in thought, hardly considering his answers as she scanned the baking section of the book.
"I'm sure whatever you make, he'll like," Joseph told her. She didn't reply.
Joseph knew to let her work her magic in the kitchen, so he grabbed a beer from the fridge and went to sit on the porch. The house would be too hot once she turned on the oven, anyway.
He sat and sipped at the cold beer, and he considered his new neighbor. Danny seemed nice, but there was something about him that had thrown Joseph off during their conversation. He just couldn't place his finger on it. His ruminating led nowhere, but it kept him busy until Carrie came out with a plate of cookies. By then the sun was starting to drop toward the horizon, casting long shadows on the ground.
"Okay so it's a little basic, but I went with chocolate chip," she said as she opened the screen door with her hip. "But if he doesn't seem interested, I can always do brownies or something else. Maybe a cake? I've never done a cake before."
"I'm sure he'll love them, Carrie. I'll bring them over to him now." Perhaps that would put Joseph's mind to rest about his previous interaction.
He stood up and took the plate from his wife, trading the cookies for another kiss, and made his way down the driveway. He crossed over to the neighboring drive, walking past Danny's car and up to the front door. He knocked and waited for an answer.
Danny opened the door only a moment later. Joseph could see piles of boxes stacked up behind him, littering the floor and furniture. He was sweating and a little out of breath.
"Hey, Joseph," he said, his voice high.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your unpacking. My wife, Carrie, sent me over to give you these. They're chocolate chip." Joseph held the plate out for him to take.
"Oh don't worry about it. I needed the break. I've been fighting with my bed frame for the last fifteen minutes and I might just toss it out the window," Danny laughed. He took the plate and set it on the coffee table-- the sole surface that wasn't being consumed by boxes. "They look great!"
"She's an expert in the kitchen, that one," he agreed. "I do my best, but my cooking could never compare to hers."
"I'm sure you're good in your own right." Danny took a cookie off the plate, splitting it in half and offering one side to Joseph. When he declined, the ginger man shrugged and placed it in his mouth. His lithe body stretched up the door frame, but he kept the door wide open for Joseph to see. As he raised his arms, his tank-top lifted to reveal his paler belly. Joseph had to look away at the inside of the house.
"Are you settling in alright so far?"
"Oh besides the bed frame, I'm doing great. Hey, you're pretty strong, right? You wouldn't mind helping me out, would you?" His head tilted to the side and he raised his brows.
"I suppose I could help out. Carrie will want me home for dinner soon, though," he said.
"It'll be real quick. I just need someone to help me lock it all in place," Danny reassured him.
"Well, uh, lead the way." Joseph gestured into the house and Danny led him inside. He bounded up the staircase beside the living room. Joseph followed, taking in the house in its chaotic state. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
They reached the bedroom, where a metal bed frame sat in the center. A mattress and box spring were leaned up against the wall, waiting to be laid down on top.
"I'm just having trouble pushing the pegs in. You don't mind helping right?"
Danny leaned down and the edge of his shorts lifted slightly, exposing his upper thighs. Joseph noticed he wasn't wearing underwear, but he didn't see a bulge in the man's shorts where he expected to. Danny waved him over, and he had to stop staring to see what he needed to do.
"You just need to slid it in and push down," he said. "Like this one, I managed to get it in place."
Joseph did as instructed, sliding the metal frame together until the round peg locked against the other side. He helped Danny do the other two corners, then they stood it up.
"Oh, thank you," Danny gushed at him. "You're a real life-saver. I was about to sleep on my couch tonight."
"Of course, any time," Joseph said awkwardly. "I think I have to head home. But I'm glad I could help."
"Oh, tell Carrie I said thank you for the cookies. They're delicious," Danny said, waving him off. He hurried down the stairs and out the front door, thinking of all the things he'd seen. He still didn't know why he'd even noticed them in the first place.
When he got back home, Carrie informed him she'd put a casserole in the oven and it would be done in half an hour.
"You were over there a while. Are you making a new friend?" She asked when he walked through the kitchen.
"Danny just needed some help setting up his bed. That's all." He forgot to mention the man's thank you to Carrie as he went into the living room to go watch TV and take his mind off of things.
After dinner that night, he and Carrie were sitting on the couch, her under his arm and nestled against his chest. Joseph looked down at her and his heart rate rose a little. Why did he feel guilty?
Joseph raised her chin with his hand and drew her into a kiss. She reciprocated eagerly. When his hands started to wander, she climbed into his lap. He ran his hands down her body. He'd always found her so beautiful. He pushed his tongue into her mouth and fondled her heavy breasts.
"Mm, you in the mood tonight?" She nibbled his bearded jaw and whispered against his lips.
"Yes," he nodded. His erection tented his jeans, nudging up against her backside. His hands drifted down to squeeze her round ass.
They didn't make it off the couch. Joseph unbuttoned her blouse and pulled her sweatpants down to reveal her underwear. He laid her down on the cushions and spread her legs. First he mouthed the black cotton of her panties, feeling the mound of her pussy, all its hills and valleys.
"Oh, Joe. Joseph," she sighed above him. Her hands found purchase in his short salt and pepper hair.
"I want to taste you, baby," he groaned. It was easy to pull the damp panties aside to reveal her. He dove tongue-first into her, burying himself between her legs. Her thighs pressed in on either side of his head, muting the world around him.
"Yes! That feels, ah, so good, Joe. I can feel your tongue inside me," she gasped. Her hips rose to rut against his face. He took it in stride, using her own motions to fuck her on his tongue. His hard-on was aching with desire to plunge into her depths.
Joseph focused on her own pleasure instead. He tongue-fucked her until she was shaking and had soaked his beard with her dripping pussy. She squeezed tight around him and cried out.
"Yes, baby, yes! Oh fuck. Please, please, please," she shouted to the ceiling. He could feel her throbbing. She was close.
He sealed his lips around her clit and sucked hard. It made her moan and push up against his face, thighs locking him in place.
Joseph was light-headed when he came up for air. He left a trail of wet kisses up her thigh, then climbed onto the couch with her. He freed his erection, letting it swing heavy between them. He grazed the head against her wet lips.
"Joe, please, give it to me," Carrie moaned. She spread her legs as wide as she could.
Joseph lined himself up and pushed in. Her wet heat was like a black hole, sucking him into her pussy. He wouldn't last long, not with her gasping and moaning for more beneath him. He thrust like a jackhammer against her ass, hips clapping together so loud they drowned out the television. His balls drew up tight to his body already.
"Baby, I'm gonna cum. I'm gonna finish inside you," he panted.
"Do it! Please, I want it," she cried out in response.
Her plea sent him over the edge. His cock throbbed inside her with each pulse of cum, filling her up until she was leaking out around him. He pushed in deep and rolled his hips against hers as he finished. He trembled with the force of it.
As he lay panting between Carrie's breasts, she stroked his hair. "I hope it takes," she whispered.
For some reason, that made Joseph feel even guiltier. He still didn't know why.
