With a heavy sigh, I rub my eyes at my desk, the papers in front of me becoming blurry. How dare this asshole ask for more money when I know for a fact he stole almost ten thousand dollars out of one of the bank accounts. I place my hand on the papers and fling it off. Who knows what the hell he needs the money for this time. There's already suspicion of his jump to a lavish lifestyle. He needs to be dealt with.
I look up at the opened door.
"Sorry to disturb you but there's someone here for an interview?"
I glance at the papers scattered. I forgot about the meeting. "Of course, please clean this up. I'm on my way." I throw my jacket on the chair and head out to the other room. Usually when people see "A Glass Company", house windows or vases come to mind. Maybe some glass art. We're a little more. Some of our best sells include blackout glass. Where you can look out, but people can't see you inside, or glass that's digital where you can light up just about any pattern you want. The lights are inside the windows themselves. Christmas tree, Christmas lights, birthday.. on your windows. Yes. It's all done on app okay? But since I got a little thief, imma need some assistance while I deal with this grimblin. "Hey there! Welcome!" I hold my hand out to my potential assistant. "I'm Matt, Welcome to Glass Views."
With a sharp smile, he takes my hand. "Nice to meet you, Sir. I'm Lance." Lance had a full head of black hair, and bright golden glasses. He's tall, and I can tell by one shake his arm has heft to it. He's a favorite for sure.
"Well right this way." I point him to the hallway and sit behind my desk. My papers in one near stack again. I lean forward. "How did you hear about us?"
"Well um," he sits down. "I can tell what buildings are your work, your design choices near the downtown areas. How you can make windows bend... I love the look of glass. Always have, and you guys take glass houses or glass complexes to a whole other level. Especially the eco friendly designs, and how temperatures work. My library has a glass panel where you can look out on the second floor and you can see how it all shimmers... I'm babbling I apologize."
A small redness is at his neck and I smile. "Always try to mirror greatness. See what rules can be bent. I've interviewed about four different people for the job. What makes you stand out?"
"Oh, I just... I don't have a good answer for that. I just really want to help make something remarkable and stunning. That holds grace and beauty."
"Mm.." I lean back. He's very humble. I like that. I like how his eyes shift around my office and his blush. "Here's the deal. I have to work on.... a side project. But I can't keep up with the demands and the other thing. You're applying basically to be an extra hand. Any leadership questions you give them to me. More than a receptionist though. You're gonna be doing a lot of running around, a lot of my decisions will be relayed through you. Under my protection. You okay with that?"
He nods. "More than. Will I have to do this with my own car?"
He looks so concerned I snort. "Absolutely not. Once the background goes through, you'll be given the keys to my second car. Of course, I'll need to run the vehicle report and everything. Reliability is a big key work in this." I lean over the desk and get a whiff of his light outwoods cologne. God I need him to pass everything. I want him around. "Did I mention traveling perks? Hotel accommodations?"
He smiles. "Another reason why I want it. I'd love to get out of my cheap apartment."
I nod. "You will have weekends, holidays off unless you wanna come with me. I always like to try and treat my employees."
"I think we're a perfect match, Sir." Direct eye contact, nice. That sly little smirk that's saying 'try me'. The confidence higher as I ask more questions. He leans back slightly with his head tilted.
"Think you can keep up with the communication demands for this role?"
"Tell me how you like your coffee and what location to go."
"If you have to go to a meeting for me and you're stuck in traffic and you're about to be late?"
"Then they'll have to wait. There's no meeting without me there."
"And if your phone keeps going off at all hours?"
"My phone? If you gave me another car, I'm sure there'll be a work phone I get."
Fucking damn. He ain't gonna back down. I stand up and give him a smirk of my own. "Welcome to the Glass Views family, Lance. Let me show you how my day starts." Oh this will be fun. And so what if he was a little attracted to Lance....
