It was another twenty hours before the tall man awoke in more casts. He blinked as there with him was the healer that had been working on him.
This meant that things were getting worse, yet. Then he saw the main doctor for the project also in several casts. Damn it, he thought, they were two of the strongest that they had. The doctor would set them back a few years.
He grabbed a phone beside his bed, then was informed before he could talk that four of his replacements were dead.
He sighed as the next, third, fourth and fifteenth were gone.
How he wondered if the radical, untrained user had gotten that information? Then he thought that they had been in his mind they could have very well got it from him. Though he wondered why they had stopped at four?
All four had been shot by an assailant of undetermined origin. A psyche sweep of the area hadn't found any that hade a memory of carrying out the deed.
The tall man shivered, whoever was responsible for these killings, had learned far more control. He shook his head as he was out of time, the council was demanding that he answer them.
There was going to hell to pay, and they were going to make him the scape goat. If he couldn't get things controlled, his was the next death.
He thought about it for a few moments, they were obviously losing control of everything. A few minutes later he heard an elevator close.
At that moment, six grim-faced, cloaked figures entered his room. He suddenly heard six voices as one as they spoke to him. We expected you to have been stronger than this.
I know this council, this wild user, is far stronger than I have ever felt before. The worst of all is that they feel natural and not made. I never felt them when they hit me and did this damage.
We see have they made demands yet? That is how we will defeat them, so what do they wish, the one voice asked.
The tall man swallowed hard as he thought of what the wild user had said. They only demanded one thing, only one.
What, can we indeed lure them with it? The one voice in his head asked.
No council, I am afraid not, not as things are now. They have repeated it over and over.
What is so difficult that we can not grant it? The voice said.
All they asked, was to be left alone nothing else, then they did this to me and him. The tall man thought.
He could swear that all six members of the council gasped at this answer.
The council went quiet as they were in discussion with themselves. It was about thirty minutes, then they turned back to the tall man.
We shall deliberate about this, recall all teams that are left. We have already felt the twenty that are changed. Send no more as we can't risk more. Also release half restraint on the asset's daughter. Her patterns have started to stabilize, we can use this, the voice said.
I wish to voice my concern about this as she has escaped twice. We lost a lot of techs, when she did.
They are of no concern, only the asset, their offspring and this new threat. This threat might end all of us if we can't gain control or destroy it.
The tall man's eyes were wide as he heard them say this. As of that day, he had never heard them say or act afraid, it seemed that this was far more serious than he thought.
Also, Director, do not worry if they escape. We have them tagged to a cellular level.
With that, the council members flickered, then vanished. The tall man nodded one way or another, this would be over soon.
Now he thought I just have to get out of here. A few moments later, several male nurses came in and removed all the casts from his hips down, completely. They then took off almost all from his waist up.
The tall man looked shocked, then looked at the lone cast on his left arm. He released a sigh and nodded about their speed.
He looked at the main doctor for the project and shook his head. "Guess you messed up too much, too bad, ass guess they thought you deserved it," the tall man said.
I awoke the next day a great distance from where the airman had been destroyed. I sat up in the hotel, sitting still a moment as I reached out.
I felt that the tall man was almost completely healed, damnit! This power was a bit above mine, and it felt like several had done it.
I then reached out to the woman, they were in the town where the airman had died. Shit, they were moving a hell of alot faster than I gave them credit for.
I managed to contact her without the others feeling it, though talk was short and clipped. She asked me if it had been me, to which I confirmed, also as to why.
You really don't have to explain these that you dispatched were, indeed, a problem. The others that you know of are almost as bad.
I know I am going after them soon and need food. She asked me about her daughter as I updated her. She seemed far more grateful than I thought she would.
She then explained that her daughter had never had any control at all. The more that she gained, the sooner they could be together.
I nodded as I felt the almost desperation of the mother for her child. I will do all that I can to help the both of you.
I felt an immense wave of gratitude wash over me. It was a very warming and loving feeling. A moment later the woman advised me that they had been recalled, per council orders.
I could feel that the others were not happy at all. For a few moments, I thought that they were going to continue to hunt me. Then I felt all of them sigh and pack up.
I shrugged as I stepped outside, then vanished the day before I had gotten to a hundred and fifty miles. I had crashed as soon as I was done, for almost fifteen hours.
The town I was in I kept coming back to measure my distance. I was shocked when I appeared three hundred miles away.
Damnit, I thought I needed more though, as I could see it was going to take a while. Seemed as if it was a muscle that I had to use and strengthen.
I turned toward where the daughter was, as I was a few thousand miles away. Two moves got me close enough that I could really feel and talk to her.
I was surprised when I didn't have to hide things as much as before. This had me more suspicious than before, I started to check, finding several hundred tracking devices. Then I went deeper, finding several more.
After three hundred, the daughter said she felt strange just like before. Upon checking, I found that she had achieved another twenty percent of control.
After four hundred, I had to stop as I was getting smaller and smaller with the size of the trackers. I shook my head as I realized that some crazy fuckers, were controlling this woman.
As the anger rose in me, I did my best to control it as a bolt of light shot out of me. It passed through the wall and hit a tree beside the hotel. To my surprise, the tree vanished into a pile of ash.
A slight frown formed on my face, then a smile replaced that I saw that I had a new weapon. Then a look of concern crossed her features as she was suddenly worried.
Shit I thought as powerful as this was, would I now be considered more of a danger? Damnit, here I was hoping to go more unnoticed and had vaporized a damn tree!
I was even more concerned when the woman with the last team was probing what had happened. Are4 you alright? I felt that even here as far away as I am.
I am, it appears that I have a weapon that I didn't know of.
Is anyone hurt? She asked.
I am, though the tree next to me is gone, not even any smoke. Not sure how, I am going to hide this, I replied.
The best thing to do is get as far away as possible, the woman with a daughter said. May I ask your name as I still have no idea who you are.
I thought about it for a good amount of time. I guess that she thought I had gone as she thought, friend? Are you still there?
Snapped out my reverie, I answered, call me friend 'til I have the both of you free. What shall I call you? Hey, you don't sound all that good.
Long ago, before all this started, I was called Margaret. No one has uttered that name in a very long time.
Well Margaret, I would be proud to use your proper name. I could feel that Margaret was crying though she was trying to hide it.
Thank you friend, I actually feel a bit more human now.
I disconnected from her as I was soon six hundred miles away. I had actually moved into the next state. I reached out looking for any that were trying to find me.
Briefly, I felt a very powerful group of people that seemed to be searching for me. Powerful yes, though barely more than me all together.
So, we have found you, you need to submit to us, a voice said.
Why? Because you said so, I don't think so, I told all of the group.
I felt that the voice was going to say more when I pushed them away. I imagined by the choking I felt, that they were unprepared for it.
Leave me alone! I forcefully thought as they were blown out of the connection.
Thousands of miles away, in a dark room, two people were trying to help four others up. The four had blood dripping from their mouths. The weakest syncoped then fell onto the floor.
The others there were suddenly confused as the link with the one on the floor was broken.
They had the weakest taken to an infirmary though they actually had to speak. The scratchy voices were almost high-pitched as they discussed.
"Though I felt no malcontent, she has still injured us," the oldest said. "We need to band together and destroy this before they grow stronger," the oldest person said.
"I, for one, think that this wishes to be left alone," the youngest one there said. "The fact that this overcame the group and didn't destroy it speaks volumes."
The others there turned to stare at the person as if they had lost their mind.
"How did you come to this decision? She attacked us!" the oldest said.
"Think about it, it didn't do anything 'til we went to it. We should enlist the help of it before we try to destroy it," the now weakest said.
"No, it is better to err on the side of caution," the oldest said.
"Know that I do not agree with this and want not to participate," the second weakest said.
The other four gasped at what the person had said. It was the first time in all the years they had been together that they had not agreed.
I felt bad when they left as I hadn't intended to harm anyone. I almost saw who they all were though, they were almost as good at hiding as I was.
I reached out again to the tall man to see what he was up to. A moment later I saw that he was at a nasty-looking machine that I only got bad feelings about.
I saw how it worked and was immediately worried. I tried to make it not work, this made the tall man smile. I then pushed harder and harder 'til it started to smoke. I knew that it wasn't enough as I saw the tall man start to laugh. This got me mad as I pushed as hard as I could, making the machine start to spark, then flames came from inside.
Somewhere from near the tall man, I heard yelling, then he was grabbed as someone pulled him from the room. A moment later the machine exploded, filling the room with flames.
The tall man looked into the air as he started to curse. "You will not get away with this!"
I flooded his mind, blocking his thoughts, as I said, I told you that I wished to be left alone. Might I suggest that you do? I haven't really killed anyone who wasn't really bad, don't make me re-think that decision!
The last I had forcefully pushed into his mind, making him gag then pass out again. Right before I left, I felt several people run to the man concerned.
I sighed as I snapped back, I then moved as I didn't know if the group had sussed out where I was. A few moments later I was hundreds of miles away.
I sat on the bed as tired as I could be, then I felt wetness on my face. I reached up near my nose, my hand coming back with blood on it.
Oh, shit! I thought I had obviously pushed far harder than I thought that I had. The extremely bad and throbbing headache that hit me next, confirmed that I had indeed gone too hard.
As hard as I tried to remain awake, the throbbing pain increased as I finally fell back on the bed. Almost as soon as my eyes closed, I felt that I had left my body.
Immediately, I was in the room with Margaret's daughter. She started awake as she looked toward me. I am so glad to see you! She said with a huge smile on her face.
Oh? I thought as surprise came to me. I thought you might not want me here after the pain you felt.
For a short time, I was very angry, then the pain stopped, and I could think so much better. Look, she thought as she started to levitate, she held it for a few minutes, then smiled. I have never been able to do it this long. Are you here to help me more?
I'm not sure though I can, especially with all that is in you, I thought.
All that is in me? Wasn't four hundred enough? She asked.
For the moment, though, I have felt even more within you. This is probably what has destabilized you so much.
She nodded as I started to delve in even deeper. Again, I managed to get another four hundred these much smaller deep within all her organs.
She took a deep breath as a huge smile lit up her face. Whoa! She thought as she stumbled a bit. I feel so strange, deep within. That was a lot, wasn't it? She asked.
No, I thought, that was as many as before. I feel you are able to exert no less than fifty-five percent control now.
I felt her joy almost immediately as it leaked through the link I had with her. She then turned to me, you need to be careful, one of the council members was hurt. Also, I heard that the machine they had made to capture you exploded.
I promised her I would, then I was snapped back again and all dreams and visions faded as I slept.
I awoke the next day looking at the clock, I saw that I had been out almost fifteen hours. Most of the throbbing headache was gone as I just sat to let it ease away.
Another hour saw me at the local diner, eating far more than I thought I should. I looked at my rumbling stomach that I saw was far smaller than I remembered it being.
I was eating slowly, though the amount I actually had, was drawing a little attention. Shit I thought, that was the last thing I needed right now.
I paid and got out of there as fast as I could, running around the side of the diner. Panicking, I wanted to be as far away as I could, flashing out I appeared not far from home.
My mouth dropped open, I was at least six hundred miles away. I didn't think that I would ever get this amount of distance, I mean three hundred had been a shock.
I thought of my house, then I was in my room. "Dad," I called, "out are you here?"
I immediately heard his thumping as he came up the stairs. "Ginny, baby? Is that you hon? Are you all right? I got so scared when I didn't hear from you," he said.
"I know sorry dad, there has been so much going on that I wasn't able to. I need to talk," I said as he sat on my bed.
"Isn't any worse than usual is it," he replied.
"I'm afraid that it might be more than that, Dad. It appears that the government and the military are after me," I said, my head lowered. "I just wanted to give them a taste of the terror they gave me. Now it seems that the world is after me like they were."
I then took almost an hour telling Dad everything that had happened so far. He sat there the whole time listening to all that had happened, a grimace on his face.
"I'm just glad that you are home safe. Though I hope that they can't track you here, hun. Don't really want to go military on them," he said.
I was hoping so also, I wasn't about to want to lose him not for this. "I am out of ideas for the moment, that's why I came home. You helped a lot last time, I was hoping you could again," I said.
Dad looked at me for a few minutes as he went through all I had told him. "As long as you keep them from knowing who you and I are, then you have an advantage. We should use it as long as possible."
I thought about it for a few minutes, then nodded. "It's just coming up with ways to dissuade them."
Dad just smiled at me as I could see that he had an idea.
The next day, I got up and nodded to my dad as I ate, then left. I was surprised I made it a thousand miles. The strange thing is it wasn't stressing at all.
I took another step and was a lot nearer to where Margaret's daughter was. I was immediately contacted by her.
I have more news, she said. I had her wait a moment as I had felt several listeners to our conversation.
I sent out something like a pulse, hearing several machines explode. I shook my head as they were obviously more worried about what I had done to her.
I nodded as I felt that those that had been listening were gone. I checked again as I still felt a few. Upset now, I sent out a stronger pulse, hearing voices cry out. I nodded; they were seriously trying to twart me helping her.
I told her to continue as she did. She started to levitate and put a shield around us. I could tell that she had far better control than before, but needed more.
I then started to delve into her body, finding that there were a great many more further within her organs. I then reached in finding that there were at least another five hundred.
I shook my head as I removed all of the five hundred. It had been trying, though I had managed to remove them, then I was shocked. I felt what must have been trillions on the cellular level.
There was something about this woman that they were apparently afraid of. I managed to get another thousand from her, though it wasn't enough. I had her control to sixty-five percent.
These sick asses had so many in her that she was almost a slave to them. Even with as much as I had released, they could still kill her at a moment's notice.
I was trying to hold my temper as I was talking to her. For a moment, I lost control, blowing a huge hole in the wall next to her door.
Her backing away instantly brought me to my senses. I apologized to her as a number of the guards came running. Strangely enough, there weren't as many as before.
I apologized to her, telling her I'd return, snapping back as if I was a rubber band. Arriving back, I seemed to be slammed back into my body as I had before.
It was at that moment that I could see that I was far more tired than I thought. I immediately placed protection around me as I feared that they might still be out there after me.
Again, I was out for more than ten hours, I also seemed to be starving. I went to a diner trying to eat normally. I left going to another, eating just as much. I found that I wasn't gaining weight, though I seemed to have actually lost a bit.
I reached out as soon as Margaret contacted me, I quickly advised her as to what I had discovered and had done.
I apologized as I told her that they had controlling trackers in almost every cell of her body. Though her daughter was now at sixty-five percent control, she was still a prisoner physically and mentally.
I had managed to remove a thousand from her mind, but that was nothing compared to the trillions still in her. I was feeling really bad though Margaret assured me that even the little I had managed gave ger hope.
I vowed that I would continue to help the two of them. Margaret promised to help me also, laughing when she said that one of the council members was out of commission.
I smiled even though one was better than the whole group that was now disrupted.
