I spoke, "What does that mean?"
Apate pointed to the still spinning golden glowing skeleton card, "That is the Zina card."
I blurted, "The what card?"
Apate repeated himself, "The Zina card. Instead of choosing one card that basically tells me the new life you get to live. This card allows you to choose just about every detail not only about your life but every detail about the new body you get even down to the smallest detail."
He chucked, "You know what I've given multiple people the same option and you're the first person to choose this card." He smiled at me, "Seems the fates are smiling down on you."
I grumbled, "Sure doesn't feel like that seeing how I died."
He shrugged, "Or you can take it as their way of making up for your untimely death."
I sighed, "I guess you're right."
Apate spoke, "So you ready to choose every little detail about your new life?" He continued smiling, "I must warn you this will be detailed meaning you will be choosing lots of options."
I nodded, "I guess."
Apate nodded, "First let's find out what sex your new body will be," he waved his hand and two simple cards appeared in front of me.
I sighed looking at the two cards not knowing which one to choose seeing how it was a 50/50 split I tapped my finger on the left card. It glowed green and lifted of its own accord to join the Zina card showing it was the symbol for female.
Apate rose his eyebrow, "So female huh?"
I quickly spoke, "Can I have a redo?"
Apate smiled at me, "Sorry once you choose that's it I'm afraid."
I grumbled, "Well shoot."
Apate smiled, "Now my gifts that I'll bestow your new life and body before you start choosing."
He waved his hand and two dozen cards appeared in front of me, "Choose five cards."
I sighed as I looked down at the cards unsure what to choose as they were lined four rows of six so I said 'Fuck it' and choose the most left card on the second row.
The card glowed and lifted showing a caricature of a naked woman with scars and bleeding screaming at the skies.
Apate spoke, "Ahhhh, the Dalner card. Seems fate is really smiling down on you."
I blinked, "What does that mean?"
Apate looked at me, "I'll tell you after you've chosen ALL of the cards," he waved his hand at me, "so go on. Keep choosing."
I sighed and looked at the cards still unsure which card to choose. I decided on the second row fourth card over.
The card glowed green and lifted showing a mountain of golden coins and golden bars.
Apate spoke, "Ahhhh, the gift of riches beyond."
I didn't have to have that explained as I guessed my new life i was going to be rich beyond my dreams.
I touched the next card, third row second card. It glowed green and lifted to show what looked like a woman bound sitting in a chair holding a very large egg with a liquid pouring over her as everything including the woman was encased in gold.
Apate smiled, "Ahhhh, Peitho's curse. Very interesting."
I looked at Apate, "Who is Peitho? What does it do?"
Apate looked at me, "I'll explain later. Two more."
I sighed and looked back down still unsure which cards to choose. I decided on the fifth card in the first row. It glowed green and lifted showing what looked like an intricate designed gift box that had exploded.
Apate spoke, "Ahhhh, the generous gift," he smirked, "I'm beginning to see why the fates are smiling on you,"
I looked at him quizzically, "Why is that?"
Apate looked at me for a moment smirking before he shook his head, "I'll tell you in a minute," he smiled, "choose your last card."
I shrugged and choose the fourth row first card. The card glowed green and lifted showing a blackened figure in a red background with red slashes on the blackened figure.
Apate spoke, "Ahhh, the Chist. This is going to be fun."
As he said that the remaining cards that I hadn't chosen vanished in a puff of smoke. I spoke, "Ok what do the cards mean? And why did you say you see why the fates are smiling on me?"
Apate smiled at me, "Guess I can answer the last first." He leaned forward smiling at me, "Those cards I said were gifts were really curses with some gifts mixed in. Out of ALL the curses you choose all the gifts and only one curse."
I wanted to leap across the slab of stone and strangle Apate even if he was obviously a powerful person. Still I tried to keep my cool as he just admitted out of all the cards I had somehow chosen four actual gifts. I just needed to know which one was the curse.
I blinked, "Was it Peitho's curse?"
Apate laughed, HARD, as he lightly slapped the polished mirror-like slab of stone making it ripple.
He laughed for a moment as he wiped a tear from his eye before he spoke in his multitone voice, "No, Peitho curse is more of a gift than a curse."
He pointed to the blackened figure in a red background with red slashes on the blackened figure, "This one, the Chist, allows me to muck with your selections after you make them before I send you to your new world." He shrugged, "Granted I only get to muck with a few of them and I can only change them to a small degree so it's not really a curse just a small inconvenience."
He rolled his hand producing a card in his hand showing a soldier slumped over with at least a hundred arrows in his back, "Now if you choose this card I could have mucked with every choice you make going forward."
Now I really wanted to launch myself across the rock and strangle his ass. In fact I tried to move but couldn't move whatsoever like he was expecting hostility instead I just looked at him with murderous intent in my gaze.
He sighed, "But you didn't," he rolled his hand again making the card vanish as he shrugged, "the Chist only allows me to muck with a small handful of items and only slightly so it seems your luck won out there."
He sighed again, "Anyways the Peiitho curse will enhance your feminine form and produce a handful of enhancements after you make certain choices. With the Zina card you'll be able to effect this much of those enhancements that will effect your new body."
I spoke, "Like what kind of enhancements?"
Apate shrugged, "Like if you choose one breast size the Peitho will enhance it by increasing it one size or two." He shrugged, "Peitho is completely random but one thing is sure ALL the enhancements this card makes will be to either the feminine form or enhancements in the female body you create."
I sighed figuring that isn't good but at least with the Zina card, if I'm understanding this correctly, I can change how much Peitho enhances my new body..... I think.
He pointed to the woman screaming to the skies, "The Dalner card is a huge gift. It'll lengthen your lifespan to near immortality and giving you both flawless forever lasting youth. The only way you'll die is if you want to die."
I blinked, "So I'll be immoral?"
Apate chortled, "Near immortal. There's a difference."
I tilted my head confused, "I don't understand."
Apate sighed, "Near immortal and immortal is a fine line. Near immortal mean's you can still die but only you determine that. True immortal means you don't choose it no matter what happens you will continue to live no matter how much you wish it to stop."
That hurt my brain as I spoke, "Ok."
Apate pointed to the mountain of riches card, "This card means in your new life you will start off rich with the ability to make money effortlessly and be the luckiest person ever." He smiled at me, "More lucky than you were."
I glared at Apate but didn't say anything.
Apate pointed to the exploded gift box, "And this card gives you extra gifts and boons," he pointed to the jeweled up skeleton, "That Zina will allow you to choose from and control with greater degree."
I looked up at the slowly spinning skeleton card and mused to myself that I really lucked out choosing that card.
Apate clapped his hands, "So you ready to start designing your new body?"
Before I could answer Apate added, "Fair warning you will be making LOTS of choices."
I looked at Apate for a moment and spoke, "Let's just get this over with."
Apate smiled as he waved his hand and I got my first choice for designing my new body.
