"Okay," Cliff said, leaning on the kitchen counter. "So. Tell me what happened today."
"I was at the DMV," Debbie muttered, unzipping her coat like she was already annoyed. "Needed a ride. You weren't answering. I called Roger."
Cliff didn't say anything at first. Just looked at her. Then:
"Roger. Huh. Nobody else? Uber? Anyone who isn't roger?"
She dropped her coat on the chair. "Uber costs money. I knew Roger doesn't work Mondays."
"Of course he doesn't."
"It made sense."
"You two talk often?"
"No."
"But you still have his number."
"I never deleted it."
"Right. You just... keep it. Just in case."
"I didn't know I'd need a ride."
"And yet. There he was."
"You wanted me to walk?" she snapped. "Middle of August?"
He didn't answer. Just kept watching her.
"So..." he said eventually. "What happened?"
"Nothing happened."
"Nothing?"
She shrugged. Too fast.
"He just drove you straight here?"
"Sort of. He had to stop at his place for a sec."
Cliff's head tilted. "So you waited in the car?"
"It was 90 degrees, Cliff. I'm not a houseplant. No, I went inside."
"Uh-huh."
"He needed to feed his fish."
Cliff blinked. "So you sat there while he fed his goldfish?"
"He has a huge saltwater reef thing."
"And you just... sat there? Watched him?"
"No. I watched TV."
"What was on?"
"I don't know. Some cooking show."
He watched her.
"You just... sat there. Watched Chopped or whatever. Then came home."
She nodded.
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Because this doesn't feel--"
"Nothing happened."
"Did he touch you?"
"No."
"Did you want him to?"
"What the fuck kind of question is that?"
"Sorry."
"I should say, at one point he tried to kiss me."
"Tried? What does that mean?"
"He kissed me... like, a nothing kiss. Like friends do. At first. When I felt his tongue in my mouth I shut him down immediately!"
"What does that mean?"
"I pushed his tongue out of my mouth is what I mean."
"How?"
"With my tongue. He caught me off guard. It meant nothing and I shut it down."
"Did you want him to kiss you? Did you want to stop it?"
"Of course I wanted to stop it," she said, suddenly sharp. "And I did. I'm with you. It meant absolutely nothing."
Cliff's voice dropped. "So then you left?"
"Yeah. I was going to. But--" she paused. "He spilled his beer on me."
Cliff looked like he was trying not to roll his eyes. "Of course he did."
"He's a klutz."
"Right."
"My clothes were soaked. He let me use his washer and dryer."
"All your clothes?"
"He gave me a towel."
"A towel."
"Yes."
"You wore a towel."
"I wrapped in it. It covered everything."
"Did you dry off before or after he saw you in it?"
She glared. "Cliff."
"I'm just asking."
"He didn't see me in it. It was an accident. It was nothing."
"So then you left and came here."
"The washer took like ninety minutes. Dryer an hour. We watched TV."
"What was on this time? More cooking?"
"No. Some historical show. Bridgerton or something like that. I don't remember the name?"
Cliff stared. "Bridgerton!? That's not history."
"It's in the past."
"You watched Bridgerton in a towel?"
"I was wrapped in it."
He let out a breath. "So let me get this straight. You're on your ex's couch, in a towel, watching a historical soft-core romance. And that was just... what, an average Monday afternoon?"
"You're making it sound way worse than it was."
"I'm just repeating what you said."
"It's not how it felt."
"Then tell me what it was."
"It was boring," she said. "I fell asleep."
Cliff raised his eyebrows. "You fell asleep."
"We both did."
"You slept with him?"
"Don't be a dick. That's not what I said."
"Yeah. Fine. It just--none of this feels right."
She was quiet a beat. "There was one weird thing."
Cliff waited.
"When I woke up... somehow his finger was inside me."
He didn't speak.
"I woke him right away," she rushed. "He was mortified. Said he must've rolled over or something. He was so upset."
Still silence.
"He asked if he hurt me. Kept apologizing. Said he didn't even know. He... offered to kiss it better if I wanted."
Cliff blinked hard. "Kiss it better? That was nothing to you?"
"You're twisting it."
"Did you let him?"
"Not at first."
Cliff's breath hitched.
"But he started. And I felt bad. He was... really upset. And really thorough."
He just stared at her.
"I remembered what you said," she added, voice a bit colder now. "About oral not being cheating. After I found out about that slut from your office? Remember? You said, 'It's not sex, it's just oral.' So don't act like you're some saint."
He stared at her. Eyes wide. Voice hollow. "So did you blow him?"
Debbie recoiled as if slapped, "How could you even ask that? What kind of a girl do you think I am!?"
Cliff was about to respond when Debbie continued, "he gave me a ride home, washed my clothes, ate my pussy... of course I blew him!"
Debbie didn't flinch.
"Wait... what!?"
"It was nothing. I didn't enjoy it."
"You didn't enj... what!?"
"Here, look at this picture. He sent this to me. You can see I'm not smiling."
"He took a picture!?" he looked at her phone, "Oh my god.. you really did blow him!"
"I didn't just blow him... I made his eyes roll back in his head."
Cliff's face twisted, but she kept going.
"I took him all the way down my throat -- and he's got two inches on you."
She stepped in closer. Not threatening. Just... deliberate.
"But when he was finishing, I pulled back... just the tip. So I could savor every last drop."
Cliff stared at her. Couldn't breathe.
"And so there would be plenty left for you to taste when I got here."
She gave a faint smile. Tilted her head.
"Didn't you enjoy that extra passionate kiss when I got home?"
"But it's not cheating... right, asshole?"

A note.
A chill crawled up my spine. I bent down, fingers shaking as I picked it up. The paper was creased, hurriedly folded, the ink smudged. And the handwriting--
Melody's.
My throat went dry as I unfolded it, heart hammering.

Chapter 5
Olivia and I sat in front of Assistant Undersecretary Matt Gilbert in a safe house he'd set up.
As I briefed him on what we learned in Cameron's house. Olivia let me do all the talking....
Again, standing in my hotel room, I had an old problem: What should I wear...? This time, however, not in front of my well filled wardrobe, but in front of my anything but well filled suitcase.
Once again, I was travelling for work. As an academic, you must attend training courses from time to time. A very exciting topic - 'The amendment to insolvency law - consequences for business processes' - a topic could hardly be drier and duller. At least the hotel where the conference was held was first class. My...
There is no sex in this story, no Friday night we have to talk, no 10" dicks, no gang bangs, no disrespecting partners but there is some boss interaction. If that's not what you want then press the back arrow.
Growing up my brother, 5 years older than me, made my life hell. He always took my toys, bullied me, pinning me on the ground in front of my friends and my first girl friend at around 11 years old....
