A Love Worth Waiting For

Sue Oliver has a kind disposition, loves kids and desperately wants to be a mom.

Short black hair frames her kind face. Her light complexion makes her green eyes stand out. They sparkle when she smiles.

Even Dan Oliver's brown eyes smiled as he went to hug his oldest son.

"Dad, I'd like you to meet Sue Karns."

Dan Oliver extends a hand.

Dan Oliver was stunned when John told him that he and Sue had been married in a civil ceremony.

"Listen Dad, We're gonna head over to the house."

"Okay John, I'll close up here and be right along."

When eveyone met up back at the house, there were a lot of questions from Jane Oliver, but she and Dan welcomed Sue warmly.

Now ten years on, and after two miscarriages, Sue still wants to be a mom. Her biological clock, she feels is ticking louder and louder.

Even when Sue lost her two babies there was Benji, trying to help make her smile.

John had returned.

John reaches for her and she backs away.

"John, you need to get to rehab if you want to keep your job."

She watched John turn away to go pack. In that moment, Sue could only feel relief.

Sue's relief was complete when she watched the cab pull away with John.

Ninety minutes later, Sue's cell phone buzzed.

She saw it was her mother in law Jane.

"Sue, I'm on my way to the hospital, Dan's had a heart attack at the shop!"

"We Just finished half of the order, and were in the process of modifying the flanges we already made when dad collapsed."

"Benji, thank god you were there.", his mother said.

Jane turned to Sue. "Did John get off to rehab okay Sue?"

"Yes mom, he left today." "God, now I have to tell him about his father."

"Damn, John was doing so well Sue.", Jane had a bewildered look on her face as she spoke.

"What happened Sue?"

"Mom, I think John got promoted too fast, and it went to his head."

"Well Sue, he is my son and I want him to get well and get clean." "But, I wouldn't blame you for leaving."

Benji turned to his mother and Sue.

"Mom, Sue, If you want me to go and tell John about dad I will."

"Benji, let's wait until we have news.", His mother said with exhaustion in her eyes.

"Okay mom." Benji put a gentle hand on his mother's shoulder.

Ninety minutes later, Dan Oliver was resting comfortably in a private room.

"Dad, you gave me and mom quite a scare."

"You sure did Dan, thank god Benji was there."

Dan turned and spotted Sue.

"Because I was the one who went to Cantor and Hobbs to plead that John keep his Job."

"I think I can convince him to retire, and sell the shop."

"Benji, I don't know if he'll go for that."

"Let me talk to him mom." "He can sell the equipment and the building for a good price."

"Then you can both relax and live off the interest from the proceeds."

"But Benji", his mother said, "You live above the shop."

Benji gave his mother and Sue a smile and turned to talk to his dad.

After thirty minutes of Benji explaining everything to his dad, Dan looked relieved.

"So, you got the Layton job done, and deposited the check Benji?"

"Yeah dad, the check cleared and is in the account." "I can payoff the loan for John's treatment, we're in the clear dad."

"Do it right away Benji." "All the information for the loan is in a grey folder marked 'JOHN' in my desk.

"I got this dad, no worries."

"Benji, the doctor says, I should sell the shop and retire."

"One thing at a time dad."

Benji put a reassuring hand on his dad's shoulder.

Unknown to Dan and Benji, Sue and Jane stood back and heard and saw the whole conversation.

Both moved away from outside the door before Benji turned to leave.

When Benji came out into the hall, Dr. Carter was advising his mother to go home and rest, since Dan was stable now.

"Dr. Carter is right mom, both you and Sue go home, I'll be along in an hour or so.

"Okay Benji, we'll wait for you at home.", Jane said with a confidant look at her son.

Sue saw the determination in Benji's eyes. It was a look she found attractive.

Jane and Sue said their goodbyes to Dan and headed to the house.

One hour later, Jane Oliver was fast asleep in her bedroom.

Sue had grabbed a bag on the way and took the guest room.

"Mom, dad, about me meeting someone I have."

"Really Sue?!", Dan said with surprise. Jane looked on with curiosity.

"I fell in love with him gradually."

"What's the man's name Sue?", Jane asked with excitement.

"Is he a good man Sue?", Dan says as he reaches for Sue's hand.

"Yes, mom, dad, he is."

Just then, Benji appears. He has been listening, hidden in another room adjacent to the kitchen.

Dan and Jane look on in surprise.

"Benji, we didn't know you were here?", Dan said with a smile.

"Benji, Sue told us she has met someone.", Jane said with a slight pain in her voice.

"I know mom."

Benji comes beside Sue and takes her hand.

Benji looks at his mom and dad with a smile.

Then looks at Sue.

Sue looks at Benji with a smile holding his hand tighter.

Sue turns to Dan and Jane.

"This is the man, mom and dad."

"Yes.", Sue smiled as she spoke."

"And you're going to be grand parents."

Dan and Jane looked at one another and then smiled.

With that, Benji turned to Sue and smiled.

"Sue, I want a life with you and the baby."

Benji slid a ring on Sue's finger and kissed her.

"Marry me Sue."

"Yes Benji, I will."

Dan and Jane looked on smiling.

All four looked forward to a future together with the new addition to the to the family.

For Benji, he felt truly happy.

His future was with Sue and the baby. A future and a love that began a decade ago. For Benji, it was a love worth waiting for.
