The Mummies

The years in this story are 1911 and 1912. Archaeologist and Egyptologist, Professor Nathan Price, and his fiancee, Virginia de Winter, travel from London to Cairo, Egypt. They are searching for the long lost tomb of the ancient prince Senmut and his bride, princess Seshen, The legend of their death concerns their blasphemy of rejecting the gods and worshiping an all powerful unknown moon goddess named Ea. They were sentenced to death by the pharaoh Amenemhat. They were executed and their mummified bodies put into sarcophagi in an underground tomb structure hidden beneath the desert in the Valley of the Kings. Nathan and Virginia's expedition team discover the tomb but encounter a priest named Jadufu who warns them not to disturb the rest of the princes within or else suffer a curse placed by the ancient priests. Nathan ignores him and takes the mummies back to London to put on display in the British Museum. Jadufu, who is a powerful priest who traveled through time into the present, goes to the museum at night when it has closed and recites an incantation from the Book of the Dead. He raises the mummies of Senmut and Seshen. He then tells them to seek Nathan and Virginia in the countryside outside of London to kill and take on their flesh as skin to begin a ritual or revivification. The night before their wedding, Nathan and Virginia decide they cannot wait and have sex in the country manor owned by Nathan. The next morning as they are sleeping, Jadufu and the Mummies find them. Jadufu gives them a drug to make them stay in a coma. They are then taken to Jadufu's apartment in London where he performs a nightly ritual to try to get the Mummies take the form of the bodies of Nathan and Virginia. He succeeds and Nathan and Virginia turn into mummies while Senmut and Seshen become what to everyone in London will assume are Nathan and Virginia. Some years go by, and Senmut and Seshen tire of being professors of Egyptology in London. They tell Jadufu that they long to return to Egypt and live out the rest of their lives there. Jadufu tells them that being already dead they cannot die and will have to live forever, so they must keep killing different couples to assume new identities for eternity. Senmut and Seshen do not want to do this and kill Jadufu. Then they go back to the British Museum and perform a reverse ritual to return to their Mummy state. After they have done this, Nathan and Virginia resume their living human form and do not understand what has happened. Their memories of the horrific ritual have been wiped clean and they resume their lives as normal.
