Myles
With the help of his friend Dominic, Myles stands up with no visible injuries, although his head is feeling a bit dizzy. He takes a moment to thank his guardian angel. Just moments ago he installed brand new wheels on his skateboard and tried to perform a boardslide, but, when jumping to the railing, his head hit the small canopy attached to the building next to the staircase. If it wasn't for his helmet and knee pads this wipeout could have been a lot worse.
"Dude, are you alright?" Dominic asks him.
"Yeah. Thanks."
"I say we call it a day. The sun is starting to set, and I'm pretty sure we're past the time I put into the parking meter."
Myles follows his friend through the busy streets of Uptown Charlotte. The city is booming with activity--people moseying out of their apartments to grab dinner, others just getting off work--Myles feels like the world is spinning around him. He can't wait to get home and take a nap, hoping rest will get rid of the throbbing headache he now has. When they reach the spot they parked, Dominic is thrilled to see no ticket on the windshield of his blue Jeep Compass. They take off their safety gear and hop in the vehicle; Dominic puts his keys in the ignition and begins their drive back to their fraternity.
It didn't take long for the two skaters to become best friends. They both attend college at the University of North Carolina and started the same year, and met during the recruitment process for a fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, which is the house they currently reside in. At University of North Carolina at Charlotte, frat "houses" are a bit different from what you might see in the movies or on TV. Most fraternities do not have official on-campus frat houses. Instead, many groups chip in to rent houses off-campus or apartments near campus. The sororities, on the other hand, have a house in Greek Village, which is funded by the university.
Myles never imagined himself as the 'frat' type. In high school his friend group was limited. Instead of trying to fit in with the popular kids, he preferred to be an outcast. It wasn't a bad way to live, but it got lonely. So that's why, months before graduation, he made a pact with himself to flip the script. He knew he had to put himself out there more, the complete opposite to his normal routine. So what's more outgoing than joining a frat?
A key factor in Myles and Dominic becoming best friends was their love for urban exploration. It usually involves entering restricted areas-like abandoned stores, factories, hospitals, tunnels-while documenting the experience with photos and videos is common. Since Myles lives near the heart of Charlotte, most of the abandoned buildings are considered private property, so entering is illegal. But he lives for the thrill. Even though getting caught is a fear, deep down he craves the intense adrenaline rush of running away from security guards. And that's happened on many occasions.
Upon meeting, it didn't take long for that topic to come up and, to both of their amazement, it turns out they share the same amount of love for it. Urban exploring is a niche community, so meeting someone who shares the same passion for it is a breath of fresh air.
"This one's a fucking classic," Dominic says as he changes the radio, which is playing "T. N. T." by AC/DC. The sound of the guitar irritates Myles's headache but he doesn't stop the music; the song was indeed too iconic to turn off.
The blue Jeep makes its way through the crowded streets until it arrives on the outskirts of Charlotte, which is where their fraternity house is. Dominic glances at Myles as he puts the car in park. "Are you sure you're ok buddy? You haven't said much since the fall. Do you need me to take you to the ER?"
Myles grins at his friend as he opens the passenger door. "I'm perfectly fine, man. It was nothing. Look, I didn't even get a scratch." He points to his forehead.
"Alright then." Dominic turns the keys and the engine powers down.
Myles steps out of the car and, after his right foot touches the ground, feels his entire leg give out. "Oh shit-" were his last words before he went tumbling down to the pavement. Dominic leaps out of the car and rushes to his side. He lifts him up, puts an arm around his own shoulder, and together they shuffle towards the front door.
"Actually, I think I need to lie down for a bit." Myles mumbles.
"Don't gotta tell me twice."
When they enter the house, two of their roommates are in the messy living room playing Super Smash Bros on their GameCube. Myles notices the empty bud light cans and corona bottles scattered across the room, disappointed that no one bothered to clean up after the previous night's festivities. Dominic helps him up the stairs and into his room.
"I'm going to get you water," Dominic says as Myles flops onto his bed. He stares up at the ceiling, which has a huge dent in it, and hopes that's not how his head looks now. He figures Dominic would have said something if it did.
Of the entire house, his room is by far the cleanest. He's always been known to take good care of his things. On the far right of his room sits his study desk; his Macbook sits on top, along with a mini bluetooth speaker, a Funko Pop of Negan from The Walking Dead, and various other knickknacks. The left side of his room consists of a mini shelf holding some of his favorite books; there's also some not-so-fun books on economics, which is the major he's going to school for. Underneath the shelf rests a pair of adjustable dumbbells he uses for home workouts.
As he lays in bed, Myles can't help but laugh at himself. How did I not acknowledge the huge roof above the jump? I'm such an idiot.
Myles has always used humor as a mirror. For him it's a way to tell the truths, contradictions, and flaws of someone, and usually reveals things that are typically hidden or ignored. Growing up his father used to tell him: If you can't laugh at yourself once in a while, then you're probably a very boring person. That was the kid friendly version. As he got older the proverb changed to: If you can't laugh at yourself once in a while, then you must have an enormous stick up your bum. Whenever Myles thought of the saying, he'd always recite the later one.
Speaking of his parents, they have often described him as reckless. They discovered his hobby for urban exploration the night of his school's senior prom. While most boys were busy working up the courage to ask their crushes to the dance, Myles had no intention of going at all. Instead, he hatched a plan for himself and his ragtag group of friends to sneak into one of the most notorious abandoned buildings in their hometown of Shelby. The hospital had been left to rot for over thirty years. It's built near the heart of the area, which is Uptown. Myles knew that security guards patrolled the place, but was confident he'd be able to get in and out unnoticed. So after him and his friends had a solid enough plan, he told his parents he was off to prom and made his way down to the hospital (And yes, he had a whole suit on for show).
Everything went smoothly for the first hour. The boys discovered an entry point on the left side of the building. Although all the windows had been boarded up, most were badly deteriorated from moisture damage, allowing them to pry one open just enough to slip inside. With his thin frame, Myles had no issue squeezing in. They crept through the hospital undetected, feeling like real life spies, until someone tripped over a ventilator and fell flat on his face, which caused a domino effect as other utensils started toppling over as well. The security guards heard it right away and chased them down, eventually cornering them into a dead end. They called the police who drove Myles home in a cop car. As you can imagine, he was grounded immensely, and spent the rest of senior year having his parents watch over him with hawk eyes. He hated it.
"Whatcha laughing about buddy?" Dominic asks as he walks into the room with a glass of water in his hand.
"Eariler I could have broken a couple bones, Dom. Or worse. But I'm fine, so I think that's a good enough reason to laugh."
"Amen to that." Dominic puts the water on the nightstand next to the bed, then walks back towards the door.. "Holler if you need anything bro. I don't have any plans for the rest of the day so I'll be here."
"Appreciate you Dom," Myles says. As he lays in his bed, he brainstorms about what other locations they could explore. He preferred to pick places on the outskirts of Charlotte, where it was much easier to move around without being seen. The city itself has too many eyes, too many people who ask questions when they notice unfamiliar faces hanging around too long. Out past the crowded streets, though, there were plenty of places people had long since forgotten about.
He ran through them one by one in his head. There was an old textile mill in Gastonia, abandoned for decades and probably full of hidden rooms, but it sat too close to a main road and drew urban explorers every weekend. Then there was a shuttered farmhouse near Monroe, tucked behind acres of dead fields, which had privacy on its side, though getting there meant crossing open land with nowhere to hide. He thought about the crumbling train depot down in Rock Hill, South Carolina, only a short drive away, with its rusted platforms and empty offices, but the local police were known to swing by after dark. Each place has something to offer, but each one also comes with a reason to cross it off the list.
Myles let out a slow breath as he stared at the ceiling, trying to force an answer out of the cracks in the plaster. For a while, nothing came. Just the sounds of his friends yelling downstairs at their video game and the distant sound of tires outside. Then suddenly a thought slid into his mind so clearly it made him sit upright in bed.
He smiled. It was far enough away to stay off anyone's radar, secluded enough that hardly anyone would think to go near it, and strange enough to satisfy that restless feeling he'd been carrying around for weeks. More than that, it had the kind of history that made his chest tighten with curiosity. The kind of place that didn't just wait to be explored -- it seemed to call people toward it. And the moment he thought of it, Myles knew he had found exactly what he'd been looking for.
Julie
With a slow, controlled exhale, Julie lowers the dumbbells to her sides before letting them rest on the rubber floor. She stood there for a moment, hands on her hips, letting her breathing settle. In the mirror ahead, her reflection stared back--familiar, but never entirely ordinary to her. Julie was mixed--Latina and Asian--and the blend revealed itself in subtle ways she usually only noticed in quiet moments like this. Her skin held a warm, sun-kissed glow; her eyes, softly almond-shaped, carried a quiet sharpness that could feel inviting one second and unreadable the next. Her dark hair, pulled back into a high ponytail, had loosened during her workout, a few damp strands clinging gently to her temples.
Her body told its own story. She was slim, undeniably so, but not in a way that faded into the background. There was shape to her. She had curves that seemed almost at odds with her narrow frame. Her waist dipped inward before giving way to full hips, and though her chest was on the smaller side, it fit her proportions in a way that felt natural.
Julie grabbed her water bottle, taking a long drink as her thoughts drifted. She liked this part of the day. The in-between. When her body was tired but her mind wasn't ready to shut off yet. It was one of the few times she didn't feel like she had to be anything for anyone--no expectations, no conversations to manage, no subtle social calculations. Just her, the fading adrenaline, and the steady rhythm of her heartbeat slowing down.
Still... her mind didn't stay quiet for long. Her thoughts drifted the way they always did once the workout high started to fade. It could cause her to be unfocused, and a little too honest. She reached for her phone almost without thinking, thumb brushing across the screen as it lit up. Nothing. No new messages. Her lips pressed together slightly as she stared at it a second longer than she meant to, like maybe something would appear if she just waited. It didn't.
Of course it didn't. A familiar knot tightened in her chest, small but persistent. It wasn't dramatic, not the kind of feeling that demanded attention--but it was there, and it had been there before. The kind that came from knowing exactly what people said, even if you tried not to listen.
Don't date frat guys.
They party too much.
They don't take anything seriously.
They always have options.
She'd heard it all before. From family, from friends, from strangers; they all spoke like it was some universal truth carved in stone. And part of her--no matter how much she tried to ignore it--had absorbed those warnings. Let them settle into the back of her mind, where they liked to resurface at moments like this.
Julie wasn't like that. She didn't crave loud parties or crowded rooms where everything blurred together. She liked control. Quiet. Knowing where she stood. And if she was being honest with herself... she'd always carried a quiet fear of being cheated on. Not because of anything that had happened in the past, but because of how easily it seemed to happen to everyone else. Almost like it was inevitable; like trust was something temporary.
But she trusted Myles. He wasn't like the others. He never had been.
Her thumb hovered over her phone screen before she locked it, exhaling softly through her nose. "Stop," she muttered to herself, grabbing her hoodie from the bench.
The walk back to her dorm was calm, the sky painted in soft shades of orange and purple. Campus buzzed with that early-evening energy--people heading to dinner, laughing in groups, music faintly spilling from open windows. Julie moved through it all at an easy pace.
Julie adjusted the strap on her shoulder as her dorm building came into view.
I trust Myles, she thought to herself again.
Julie repeated that thought to herself as she climbed the stairs to her floor, feeling the faint tremor still lingering in her legs from the workout. Trust wasn't something she gave blindly; it was something she studied, something she tested in quiet, almost invisible ways. With Myles, she had been observing from the beginning--listening for inconsistencies, watching how quickly he replied, noting whether his tone shifted when certain names came up. She hated that she did it, hated that she couldn't simply exist inside a feeling without dissecting it first. But she also knew that most heartbreak didn't come from nowhere. It came from small things people ignored.
Her dorm room was stagnant when she walked in. The air inside was cooler than the hallway, faintly scented with the lavender air freshener plugged into the outlet on the wall. She put her bag down and stood there for a moment, letting the silence settle around her. The building made its usual evening noises--distant laughter, a door closing somewhere down the hall, plumbing shifting in the walls like something restless and hidden. She didn't like it all that much. Most days it honestly creeped her out.
Cooking steadied her. It always had. In the communal kitchen she rinsed quinoa under cold water until it ran clear before setting it to simmer. Steam rose gently as the grains softened, the scent subtle and nutty. She sliced zucchini and red bell peppers into careful strips, halved cherry tomatoes, and crushed a clove of garlic beneath the flat side of her knife. The rhythm of it soothed her--the clean sound of the blade against the cutting board, the hiss when vegetables met olive oil in a hot pan. She felt like she was on a cooking show.
She seasoned without measuring. Smoked paprika. Black pepper. A pinch of sea salt. A squeeze of lemon that brightened everything at once. The salmon went in last, skin-side down. It crackled softly, the edges turning opaque as it cooked through. She watched it the entire time, resisting the urge to flip too early. Patience mattered. When she finally did turn it, the surface had formed a delicate golden crust.
The food looked like it was made by a professional by the time Julie got down assembling everything into a bowl. Quinoa was at the base, vegetables layered over it, salmon resting on top with a spoonful of lemon-herb Greek yogurt on the side. She learned this recipe from her mom who, from a young age, was a huge advocate for healthy eating. Of course she hated eating healthy when she was a kid. But nowadays she's learned to be thankful that she was raised like that.
Once she finished eating she showered and dressed in soft sleep shorts and an oversized T-shirt, she climbed into bed and opened her laptop. She chose a familiar movie, something comforting enough that she didn't have to invest fully in it, and slipped her headphones on. She allowed herself to sink into it, to let someone else's fictional problems occupy the front of her mind.
At exactly eight o'clock, the vibration startled her. Her body reacted before her thoughts did, her heart kicking once, hard, as she reached for the phone and pulled one side of her headphones off. Her boyfriend's name appeared on the screen and she swiped to answer the call.
"Hey babe. I'm really sorry I went ghost for a bit. I wiped out while skating earlier and banged my head a bit. Nothing crazy, just needed to lie down for a couple hours. Didn't mean to worry you."
And just like that, the knot in her chest, wound tight with annoyance and suspicion earlier, unraveled and gave way to something softer--tenderness edged with guilt. She let out a sigh. "Oh my gosh! You hit your head?" she asked, her voice tightening despite her attempt to sound calm. "Myles, that doesn't sound like something minor."
"I'm good," he said quickly, with that easy half-laugh he used whenever he didn't want something to become serious. She could picture him running a hand through his hair, brushing it off like it was nothing. "I promise. I just slept for a bit. I have an ice pack on it now for good measure. Don't worry, I'll survive."
She closed her eyes briefly. He sounded normal. Clear. Not dazed. No slurring. The relief continued to spread through her, warm and steady, dissolving the last of the brittle tension she'd been holding onto all evening. "You scared me," she admitted, softer now. "I texted you and then nothing."
"I know. I'm sorry. My phone was on silent. I was half asleep anyway. Didn't even think."
That answer felt honest. She let herself accept it. They talked the way they usually did after a long day. He asked about her workout. She told him about the salmon and quinoa bowl she'd made, teasing him about his questionable diet of energy drinks and whatever he found in his fridge. He groaned theatrically and accused her of judging him. She had hoped that her healthy eating would rub off on him, but so far it hasn't been successful. In the background she could hear his roommates laughing, probably arguing about something silly or playing some kind of prank on one of the guys.
There was something about his energy tonight, though. A current under his words. Not anxiety. Not excitement either. Something anticipatory. "So," he said after a moment, lowering his voice slightly, "I'm thinking about exploring the abandoned Glasshaven mall tomorrow."
"That old place?" she asked carefully. "Why?"
Urban exploration wasn't something new to her. It wasn't even surprising. Myles had always been drawn to places that felt forgotten. Even on their first date he pulled out his phone and showed her fifty photos of one of his adventures. She could tell he liked the quiet rebellion of it, the idea of standing somewhere he technically wasn't supposed to be and seeing what most people never knew existed. He called it curiosity. She called it unnecessary.
She didn't approve of it. Not really. It wasn't that she thought he was stupid. He wasn't. It was that she saw risk where he saw intrigue. She saw unstable flooring, loose wiring, nails under dust, the possibility of running into someone unpredictable. He saw sunlight cutting through broken windows and the strange beauty of decay.
"It's huge in there, Jules. Back in the day it was one of the biggest places in the area. But over the years less people went, and so the owner decided to close it for good. I talked to someone in the Urban Discord server I'm in, and they said there's a metal door towards the back of the mall that's pried back enough to slip through. It's definitely accessible."
"You're not tired of doing that kind of thing yet?" she asked, though there was no real challenge in it. She already knew the answer.
He gave a small laugh. "Doing what?"
Of course he'd play dumb. "Exploring places that are clearly closed for a reason."
There was a pause, then a softer answer. "Nah. I like seeing what's left behind."
That was the thing. He wasn't chasing danger for the sake of it. He was chasing the feeling of stepping into something paused. Something untouched. Julie understood that about him, even if she didn't share it. Myles was restless in a way she wasn't. He needed movement, edges, stories hidden in walls. She needed stability, predictability, spaces where the lights turned on when you flipped the switch.
She didn't try to change him. She had learned early on that trying to sand down someone's instincts only made them splinter somewhere else. "When are you thinking?" she asked.
"Tomorrow afternoon," he said. "Like around three. Broad daylight. I'm not trying to make it creepy."
It would be creepy anyway. Daylight didn't fix emptiness. It only illuminated it. "You're not worried about security?" she asked.
"Apparently there's a few guards that patrol. But the mall is so big I'm confident we won't see a single one."
"Going with Dominic I assume?"
"Nah, he has to get a root canal after our morning class. Sucks to be him! I was kinda hoping you would take me to Glasshaven..."
"You want me to drive you?"
"Yeah," he said, softer now. "My car's still making that weird grinding noise, and yours is... you know. Reliable. We won't be there long. I don't want to park mine in that lot and come back and have it not start up."
"You said 'we'. Who else is going in with you?"
"Well, I was hoping you would. You've never gone exploring with me. I think it would be fun..."
She rolled her eyes. "You know I don't love this stuff," she said gently.
"I know." There was no defensiveness in his tone. Just acknowledgement. "I just think maybe you need to try it out for yourself before you judge it. How about this: If we go and you end up hating it, I'll never bring it up to you again."
She understood his hobby in theory. Understood that it was about discovery. About standing in places where time had stalled. He liked abandoned things because they felt honest. No polish. No performance. Just history and whatever was left behind. There was a part of her that admired that instinct, even if she didn't share it. But admiration didn't erase risk. "You said there are guards," she reminded him.
"Yeah, but it's huge, Jules. Massive. We'd be in and out."
Jules can't help but roll her eyes again. In and out. As if trespassing in a decaying building was equivalent to running in a grocery store. "You're not going to do anything stupid?" she asked quietly.
He huffed a small laugh. "Define stupid."
"Myles."
"Okay, okay. I'm not going to do anything stupid. I swear."
She closed her eyes for a moment. This was the compromise she lived in with him. She didn't approve, but she didn't forbid. She accepted that this was part of the architecture of who he was, and loving someone meant deciding which parts you could stand beside without reshaping them. "If I drive," she said slowly, "we leave the second it feels off. I don't care if we're only been inside for thirty seconds."
"Deal."
"And if we see a guard, you won't try and act like James Bond and sneak around. We just go."
"Deal," he repeated, quicker this time.
She could hear the smile in his voice now, the spark of anticipation reigniting. It made her uneasy how easily he shifted from apology to adventure. But it also made him feel alive in a way she couldn't deny.
"Three o'clock," she said finally.
"Three o'clock," he confirmed.
After they hung up, Julie lay there for a long moment, her phone resting against her collarbone. Nervousness settled into her slowly, not in sharp spikes but in a low, persistent hum. She imagined the parking lot stretching out around them, too open, too exposed. The vast facade of darkened glass reflecting sky and nothing else. The thought of stepping through a pried-open service door made her skin prickle--the metal cold under her hand, the air inside stale and unmoving. She pictured uneven flooring hidden under dust, the echo of their footsteps giving away exactly where they were. The possibility of someone else already inside. Not security. Just someone.
Her mind was good at building scenarios. It always has been.
She told herself they would be there in broad daylight. The sun would be high. Shadows would be short. Nothing about that sounded like a horror movie. And yet she knew enough about emptiness to understand that light didn't dissolve it. It only revealed how much space there was for things to go wrong.
Daylight didn't make abandoned places less unsettling. It only made you see every crack more clearly...
Phil
Phil woke at eleven-thirty to the thin glare of sunlight slipping through his blinds and landing across his eyes. He squinted, turned his head away from it, and lay still for a moment, orienting himself to the quiet of the apartment. No alarm blaring. No missed calls. Just the low, steady hum of traffic filtering up from the street below.
His shift didn't start until one. It was one of the few advantages of guarding a place no one wanted to be. Glasshaven Mall didn't require urgency. The job was calm, for the most part, and paid a decent amount.
Phil sat up slowly and swung his legs over the side of the bed, rolling his shoulders once before standing. At forty-two, he was aware of his body in a way he hadn't been at twenty-five. Not in a fragile way--more in a maintenance way. He kept himself in decent shape for someone his age. Nothing obsessive. A few runs a week. Push-ups in the living room. Avoiding the steady creep of fast food and late-night beer that had swallowed some of the guys he'd gone to high school with. He liked that his shirts still fit properly. Liked that people occasionally hesitated before guessing his age. There was a small, quiet pride in that. He didn't pretend otherwise.
In the kitchen, he cracked three eggs into a pan, added spinach and a sprinkle of shredded cheese, and toasted two slices of whole-grain bread. Coffee brewed strong and black. He ate standing at the counter, scrolling through headlines on his phone without really absorbing them. Politics. Weather. A local car accident. Nothing that demanded his involvement. His life rarely did.
His friends had once joked that he was built for steadiness. Reliable Phil. The same friends who had introduced him to Erin at a backyard barbecue twelve summers ago. He could still picture the moment clearly--her laugh cutting through the noise, the way she'd tilted her head when she listened. They married three years later. And divorced ten years after that.
He didn't waste time assigning blame anymore. It had taken him a while to get there, but he had. He'd been stubborn when flexibility would've saved them arguments. Too concerned with being right instead of being kind. Erin had shut down instead of pushing through. They had both contributed to the slow unraveling. There was no villain in it. Just two people who stopped fitting as neatly as they once had.
No kids made the separation cleaner. That was something he was grateful for, even if the silence of his apartment sometimes stretched longer than he liked.
By twelve-thirty he was dressed in his uniform, boots laced, badge clipped neatly to his chest. He checked his reflection in the hallway mirror--not out of insecurity, but habit. Tall. Solid. Put together. The uniform helped. It gave him a daunting edge.
The drive to Glasshaven Mall was uneventful. The road thinned the closer he got to the outskirts. When the mall came into view, it looked the same as it always did--vast, inert, slightly surreal against the brightness of the afternoon sky. The massive glass facade reflected sunlight in a dull sheen, its once-polished exterior now permanently filmed with stains and graffiti.
He parked near the main entrance and stepped out, the wind tugging faintly at his pant leg. Most days were quiet. Occasionally he'd have to shoo away a couple of hotshot teenagers looking to film something stupid for the internet. Once in a while, he'd find evidence that a homeless man had sheltered overnight near one of the service corridors--cardboard flattened out, a blanket folded with surprising neatness. He handled those encounters calmly. Firm but not cruel. He had no interest in escalating anything.
The job wasn't about action. It was about deterrence. Visibility. Making sure Glasshaven stayed exactly what it already was: empty.
He began his usual perimeter walk, boots crunching lightly over broken asphalt. Weeds pushed stubbornly through cracks in the parking lot. The air smelled faintly of sun-warmed concrete. He checked the main doors first--solid, locked, undisturbed. Then the side entrances. Once his routine exterior checks were complete, he went around back and walked up to the huge garage. He fiddled with his keys until he found the correct one, then inserted it into the lock and gave it a twist.
The mechanism gave way with a dull, reluctant clunk. He wrapped his fingers around the metal handle and pulled. The garage door groaned upward, inch by inch, until there was enough space for him to duck beneath it. The sound echoed longer than it should have, bouncing off the hollow interior beyond.
Inside, the air was cooler. Stale. It carried that familiar scent of dust and old carpet--an odor that never quite left no matter how many years passed. He reached for the switch panel just inside the service corridor and flicked on the overheads. Fluorescent lights buzzed awake in sections, some stronger than others, illuminating a hallway that stretched toward the heart of the mall.
His boots sounded louder in here. Every step produced a measured echo that followed him half a beat behind.
Phil moved through his interior checklist with quiet efficiency. Service hall clear. Storage rooms locked. No fresh graffiti along the concrete walls. He passed the old food court entrance and paused long enough to scan the overturned chairs and darkened vendor stalls. Nothing disturbed. No new footprints in the dust.
He cut through to the main atrium.
Even after years, the size of it still struck him. The ceiling rose high above, skylights filtering pale afternoon light down into the open hub below. Escalators stood motionless like monuments. The tiled floor bore faint scuffs from a decade of footsteps that no longer came.
He made his first full lap along the first floor, eyes scanning storefronts automatically. Gutted clothing chains. A bookstore reduced to empty shelving. A perfume shop whose scent had long ago surrendered to mildew.
By the time he circled back to the center, he checked his watch. It was two-thirty. Half an hour down. Only eight and a half more to go.
He drifted toward the eyeglass store positioned on the corner of the central hub. It had once been a LensCrafters--at least that's what the faded lettering on the back wall suggested--but now it served as his unofficial command post. From the front desk, he had a clean line of sight across most of the first floor. Anyone stepping into the main atrium would be visible within seconds.
He stepped behind the counter and settled into the chair, which creaked faintly beneath his weight. The small television mounted in the corner still worked, hooked up to basic cable through a stubborn, grandfathered contract corporate hadn't bothered canceling. He turned it on more for movement than entertainment. The low murmur of daytime programming softened the silence.
His eyes lingered on the screen. For a while, Pablo, his partner/co-worker, had made these shifts tolerable.
Pablo--shorter, louder, perpetually amused--had shown up one afternoon with a duffel bag and a grin that already suggested trouble. Inside the bag was a PlayStation. They'd hooked it up to the TV at this very desk, wires snaking across the counter, controllers resting where customer paperwork used to sit. On slow days--which was nearly every day--they'd take turns playing Call of Duty, trash-talking each other in low voices while keeping one ear tuned for any unusual sound.
It had been harmless. Unprofessional, yes. Stupid, maybe. But it was harmless. Then one afternoon their supervisor decided to come in for a surprise visit. Phil could still picture it: the sudden clearing of a throat behind them. Pablo nearly launching the controller across the room. The boss's face settling into that specific shade of managerial disappointment.
They'd been hollered at for a solid twenty minutes. Professionalism. Liability. Image. The PlayStation disappeared the next day, returning to Pablo's living room in his home. After that they didn't dare try it again.
Phil leaned back in the chair now, glancing at the empty counter where the console had once sat. Good times, he thought to himself. The memory tugged at him with amusement.
Pablo wasn't here today. He'd taken his family to Disney World. He had three kids, each under the age of ten, and a wife who planned itineraries with military precision. She reminded Phil of his cousin Rachel, and that wasn't a good thing.
Pablo had shown him photos all week leading up to the trip. Matching T-shirts. Park reservations mapped out by hour. Phil was genuinely happy for him. But the absence was noticeable. He missed his friend. The mall felt bigger when he was alone. The quiet stretched wider. Now he wasn't a very superstitious person, but sometimes this mall creeped him out. And when alone, it almost feels haunted in a way.
He folded his arms loosely across his chest and let his gaze sweep the atrium again. Empty escalators. Sunlight drifting through dust. Storefronts staring back without expression. Everything is exactly as it should be. He liked to think he knew the rhythms of this place. Knew when something felt off. For now, everything sat exactly as it should.
It all felt still. Too still, maybe...
Myles
When Julie's Subaru Forester pulled up the street, Myles was already sitting on the porch waiting. Since Dominic's Jeep wasn't there, she was able to beach it in the driveway. He was on his feet before she'd even killed the engine.
The afternoon sun glazed the windshield, and for a second he could only see his own reflection staring back at him--hair pushed back, nerves disguised as casual anticipation. Then the driver's door opened. Julie stepped out, one hand braced on the roof of the car, and the sight of her knocked something loose in his chest.
She wore those jeans he likes. The real tight ones. They fit her like they'd been perfectly, like they were tailored. They hugged her hips and legs in a way that made his mouth go dry for a completely different reason than the heat. He forced his gaze upward before she caught him staring.
She spotted him and smiled--small, a little nervous around the edges. He jogged down the porch steps to meet her halfway across the driveway. "Hey," she said.
"Hey." The word came out softer than he intended.
He pulled her into him without overthinking it, arms wrapping around her waist. She folded easily against him, chin brushing his shoulder. The hug lingered. Not dramatic, not desperate--just close. Familiar. He felt the warmth of her through her T-shirt, the steady rhythm of her breathing evening out against his chest.
God, he was glad she'd come. He pulled back just enough to look at her. "You actually showed up."
She rolled her eyes lightly. "I said I would."
"I know. I just..." He shrugged, grinning. "This is kind of historic."
She arched her brow. "Me willingly trespassing?"
"Urban exploring," he corrected automatically.
She gave him that look--the one that said she didn't buy the rebranding but wasn't going to argue it either.
He knew this wasn't her thing. He'd known that from the first time he'd shown her grainy photos of an abandoned factory downtown and watched her try, very sweetly, to look impressed. She listened when he talked about forgotten architecture, about the beauty of decay, about places caught between the past and demolition. She even asked questions sometimes, which he appreciated.
But it didn't light her up. It lit him up. And the fact that she was here--parked in his driveway, keys still in her hand, sunlight catching in her hair--made something in him swell with a boyish kind of pride. He'd have to make it worth it for her.
His hands rested at her hips a second longer than necessary before stepping back. His thumb brushed absentmindedly along the curve of her waist, and his mind supplied a quiet promise to himself: he'd pay her back for this. Later, in a more intimate way. "You ready?" he asked.
"As I'll ever be."
He grabbed his backpack from the porch steps, slinging it over one shoulder. As they headed toward the car, he couldn't help but notice again the way those jeans fit when she walked. Glasshaven is about to get its first decent view in years, he thought to himself.
Julie slid back into the driver's seat while Myles circled to the passenger side. She tapped her phone, mounted near the dash, and entered the mall. Route: 18 minutes.
She pulled out of the driveway. "So," she said, merging onto the main road, "what exactly do you have in that thing?" She nodded toward his backpack.
Myles glanced down and inspected it. "The essentials."
"That's not an answer."
He grinned. "Flashlight. Extra batteries. Small first-aid kit. Gloves. Dust masks. Bolt cutters. Like I said, the essentials."
Her head snapped slightly in his direction. "Bolt cutters?"
"Relax," he said quickly. "Just in case we need to get through something minor. Not like... a bank vault."
She gave him a look.
"Okay, fine. I probably won't even use them. Mostly it's just safety stuff. You'd be surprised how gross some of these places are. Broken glass, nails, mold. I'm not trying to end up in urgent care."
That seemed to unsettle her more than she already was. He didn't believe he was reckless, no matter how many times his parents called him that. Not exactly. He planned for things. He watched YouTube videos about structural integrity and how to spot soft flooring. He read forums where people traded tips about avoiding alarms and recognizing which buildings were truly abandoned versus just temporarily vacant.
Traffic died out as they moved farther from the city. Buildings grew shorter, more industrial. The sky felt wider out here, less interrupted by dorm towers and lecture halls. Myles leaned forward slightly as they approached a long stretch of road bordered by overgrown grass. In the distance, she could see it--the massive silhouette rising beyond a line of trees. Even from far away, Glasshaven didn't look like a mall anymore. It looked like something paused mid-collapse. A wide, flat structure with blank windows reflecting nothing but sky.
Her grip tightened on the steering wheel.
"Okay," Myles said, his tone shifting into focus. "Don't pull in there."
"Believe me, I don't want to," she muttered.
"No, I mean--we shouldn't park in the main lot." He pointed ahead. "Turn right up here."
She glanced at him. "Right? That's not the entrance."
"Exactly."
She slowed and turned onto a smaller road that ran parallel to the mall property. About a hundred yards down sat a tired-looking strip mall--three storefronts, one nail salon, one vape shop, and one permanently shuttered tax service office with sun-bleached posters still taped to the inside of the windows.
"Park here," he said.
"In front of the vape shop?"
"Yeah. It blends in. If we park at the mall, anyone driving by or doing patrols might clock the car. The lot's too open. It's too obvious."
She listened to him and pulled into a space near the far end, cutting the engine. The mall loomed beyond a thin line of trees and a sagging chain-link fence. "And we just... walk?" she asked.
"Yeah, for five, maybe seven minutes," he said. "There's a break in the fence on the west side. At least that's what the guy on Discord told me." Myles reached for his backpack and slung it over his shoulders. "You good?"
"Yeah," she said, opening her door. "Let's go before I change my mind."
They crossed the small access road and slipped through the break in the chain-link fence one at a time, Myles holding it open while Julie ducked carefully beneath a jagged edge of bent wire. The metal snagged lightly at her sleeve before releasing her, as if reconsidering. Beyond it, the mall's parking lot stretched out in a wide, sun-bleached expanse. Up close, it looked even bigger.
Faded white lines marked parking spaces no one had used in years. Shopping cart corrals stood empty, skeletal. The asphalt shimmered faintly in the afternoon heat, cracks splitting outward like veins. Grass had claimed whole sections near the curbs, stubborn and unapologetic.
They didn't speak. There was something about wide, empty spaces that made voices feel inappropriate. Myles adjusted the straps of his backpack and nodded his head toward the far end of the building.
They moved quickly but not suspiciously--just two figures crossing a forgotten sea of pavement. Julie kept glancing toward the perimeter of the lot, half-expecting a patrol vehicle to crest the edge at any second. The sun pressed down on her shoulders, hot and relentless. The mall's back wall rose higher with every step, a long stretch of stained concrete broken only by service doors and sealed loading bays.
"There," Myles said quietly. Near one of the loading docks, partially obscured by a stack of old wooden pallets, a metal service door sat slightly ajar. Not wide open. Just enough. The frame had been pried back along one side, warped outward so that a narrow gap ran from knee height to shoulder height.
"Are you sure about this?" Julie asked, keeping her voice low.
He glanced at the door, then back at her. "Yeah. My source told me that the alarm was shut down a long time ago. It doesn't trigger anything." Myles knows that wasn't the reassurance she wanted, but it was the only one he could give her.
He was the first to step forward, testing the door with a careful push. It groaned faintly but held. He turned sideways and slipped through the opening, backpack scraping softly against metal. For a second, he disappeared into the shadows. Julie hesitated only a beat before following.
The air changed immediately. Outside it was warm and bright. Inside is cooler, heavier. Myles got a whiff of dusty, stale air.. His eyes started to water a little as they slowly adjusted to the new environment.
They stood in a narrow backroom hallway, the ceiling low and lined with exposed pipes. Fluorescent light fixtures hung above them, dark and lifeless. The walls were painted a dull industrial beige, scuffed and peeling in long strips. The concrete floor bore the faint outlines of where equipment or shelving had once stood.
The door eased shut behind them with a soft metallic thud. The sound echoed more than it should have. The silence inside wasn't empty. It was dense. It pressed in from all sides, amplifying every small movement--the shuffle of her shoes, the rustle of Myles unzipping his backpack.
He pulled out a flashlight and turned it on. A clean white beam cut through the dimness, illuminating dust motes drifting lazily in the air. "Okay," he murmured, unable to suppress the grin spreading across his face. "We're in."
The beam of Myles's flashlight stretches down the narrow hallway like a promise. He loved this part--the threshold. The moment when the outside world sealed up behind him and the rules shifted. The air felt different here. It was like the building was holding its breath.
He glanced back at Julie as they walked. She stayed close. Not clinging onto him or being dramatic, but she moved with caution. He knew she was thinking of good exit points if needed, as well as looking out for any weird sounds. It was one of the things he respected about her. She didn't panic. She assessed. He truly was happy that she was there.
They reached the end of the service corridor where it opened into a wider stockroom space. Metal shelving units stood half-collapsed along the walls. Cardboard boxes had melted into soft, sagging shapes from old leaks in the ceiling. A swinging door hung crookedly ahead, its small circular window clouded with grime.
He pushed it gently. It gave way with a tired creak. The flashlight beam swept across what had once been a Famous Footwear. The sign above the back wall still clung there in faded red letters, one corner peeling away. Shoe racks lay overturned like fallen dominoes. A few lone sneakers remained scattered across the floor, their laces stiff with dust.
A sudden blur darted across the floor. Julie gasped sharply beside him, jumping into his arms.
He steadied her instinctively, eyes tracking the movement until it vanished beneath a shelving unit.
"Hey, hey," he said, lowering his voice but unable to stop the small laugh in it. "Relax. Probably just a rat. Or a roach."
"That's not comforting." She stared at him.
He shrugged lightly. "We're in their house now." His pulse hadn't spiked at all. If anything, it sharpened his senses. Movement meant life. It meant the building wasn't entirely hollow.
He guided her carefully around a collapsed display rack, boots crunching over a thin scatter of broken ceiling tiles. As they moved through the storefront and toward the open entrance that faced the main mall, he felt it--that familiar swell in his chest. Anticipation.
They stepped past the metal security gate, frozen halfway open, and emerged into the central corridor. And there it was.
The mall opened up around them in a vast, echoing cathedral of glass and decay. Two stories high. Skylights stretched across the ceiling, some shattered, some intact, allowing shafts of afternoon sunlight to spill down in pale columns. Dust hung suspended in those beams like slow-falling snow.
Escalators stood motionless in the distance, their black steps dulled to gray. Storefronts lined both sides of the corridor, gates pulled tight like closed eyelids. A fountain sat dry and cracked in the center of the atrium, coins still visible at the bottom--wishes abandoned mid-hope. Myles felt something inside him quiet in a way it rarely did anywhere else.
This was why he did it. Not for trespassing. Not for the thrill of possibly getting caught. It was this strange, sacred beauty--the way time revealed the bones of a place. The way sunlight reclaimed what electricity once dominated. The way silence could feel enormous but not empty.
He stepped forward slowly, turning in a slow circle to take it all in. "Look at this," he murmured, almost to himself. The mall wasn't dead. It was paused. Time inside the mall felt strangely elastic. Thirty minutes passed the way five usually did--quietly, without announcement. Myles led them into storefront after storefront, lifting security gates just high enough to duck under when they weren't already sagging open. They drifted through Glasshaven without rushing.
An old jewelry store with velvet display stands still arranged in neat rows, though the glass cases had long since been shattered. A children's clothing boutique where tiny mannequins leaned sideways, one missing an arm, another staring blankly toward the ceiling. A video game shop stripped almost completely bare except for faded posters curling at the corners. A completely silent food court, with the remnants of various condiments stained across the squared floor.
Myles took photos constantly. Not just snapshots, but angles. Light patterns. The way sunlight poured through broken skylights and painted long, golden rectangles across tiled floors. The symmetry of escalators frozen mid-climb. The contrast between glossy promotional murals and the dust thick enough to leave footprints in. This was the part no one understood when they teased him about it. It wasn't about sneaking in. It wasn't about rebellion. It was about preservation. He couldn't wait to post these new photos to his Instagram.
These places had once been loud. Alive. Full of teenagers loitering by food courts and parents juggling shopping bags. And now they stood like monuments to a different decade, a different economy, a different rhythm of life. He felt like a witness. Like someone documenting something before it disappeared completely.
He glanced at Julie more than once. At first, she'd walked carefully, shoulders slightly tense, eyes scanning corners and upper railings. But somewhere between the third and fourth store, her steps had loosened. She lingered longer over details. She crouched to take her own photos. She even laughed quietly when they found a cardboard cutout of a long-forgotten movie actor still taped to a back wall. Myles couldn't recall who it was, but Julie told him it was Peter Boyle.
He could tell that she wasn't just enduring it anymore. She was experiencing it. That did something warm to his chest.
Eventually, they wandered into what had once been a mattress store. The sign had fallen halfway off the wall outside, only a few letters still clinging to the frame. Inside, mattresses were scattered haphazardly across the floor--some stained, some ripped open with their foam insides exposed. Others sat upright against walls like tired soldiers. But near the back, a few display beds remained surprisingly intact, still dressed in faded comforters and decorative pillows stiff with dust. To Myles, the abandoned mattresses made the store feel less industrial and more intimate.
Julie moved ahead, lifting her phone to capture a quick picture. And then he noticed it. The way those jeans fit when she walked. The way the fabric stretched clean and perfect across her hips as she leaned forward slightly to frame a shot. Sunlight from a cracked skylight caught along the curve of her, outlining her silhouette in pale gold.
He exhaled slowly through his nose. He knew it was ridiculous to be standing in a dead mattress store thinking that, but he couldn't help it. She looked unreal. Strong and soft at the same time. Out of place in the best possible way--like something vibrant dropped into a sepia photograph.
Julie shifted her weight, adjusting her angle for the picture, and he felt a boner starting to form. Myles slipped his backpack off his shoulders and placed it on an old beat up mattress next to him. He unzipped it and grabbed a sealed condom from a tiny pouch within, then slipped it into his pocket. Then he stepped forward quietly and wrapped his arms around her waist from behind. She startled just slightly before relaxing into him. He rested his chin near her shoulder, the smell of her shampoo cutting cleanly through the dusty air. For a second, the vast mall outside the storefront disappeared. It was just the two of them in a quiet room full of forgotten beds.
"This," he murmured softly, his hands settling at her hips, "might be my favorite store so far."
Myles kept kissing her, slow and deep, his hands sliding up under the hem of her shirt to find warm skin. Julie's breath hitched against his mouth. "Myles... we shouldn't," she whispered, but the words came out shaky, already softening at the edges. Her body told a different story--pressing back into him, hips shifting subtly as his fingers traced the curve of her waist.
He could feel her trying to hold onto control, that familiar tension she carried everywhere. But he also felt the way her thighs pressed together. She loved this. She always did once the resistance cracked.
"Shh," he murmured against her neck, kissing lower, sucking lightly at the spot that always made her weak. "No one's here. It's just us." His hand slid down to cup her ass through those tight jeans, squeezing the firm flesh he'd been admiring since she stepped out of the car. Fuck, she looks incredible in them--every step had been torture on the walk in. Now he had her all to himself in this forgotten corner of the world.
Another soft "Myles, stop..." escaped her, but it dissolved into a quiet moan as he rocked his growing hardness against her from behind. He knew that sound. It wasn't a protest. It was surrender in disguise.
He turned her in his arms and kissed her harder, tongue sliding against hers while his fingers worked the button of her jeans open. The zipper came down with a soft rasp that seemed loud in the dusty silence. She gasped, hands clutching his shoulders, but she didn't push him away. Instead, her hips tilted forward, chasing the friction.
That was all the invitation he needed.
Myles guided her back until her legs hit the edge of an alaskan king display bed. The mattress dipped under their weight as he lowered her onto it, the faded comforter puffing up around them in a small cloud of dust that caught the slanted afternoon light. He followed her down, covering her body with his, one knee pressing between her thighs to spread them.
"God, you're so fucking hot," he breathed, tugging her jeans and panties down her legs in one smooth motion. She lifted her hips to help him without thinking, even as another half-hearted "We can't... not here" slipped out. But her voice was thick with want now, her cheeks flushed, eyes dark.
He silenced her with another deep kiss, then moved lower--kissing down her stomach, pushing her shirt up and her bra aside so he could take one stiff nipple into his mouth, sucking and flicking his tongue until she arched off the mattress with a broken moan. Her hands threaded into his hair, not pulling him away but holding him there.
When he finally settled between her legs, he could see how wet she already was. He dragged his tongue along her slit slowly, savoring the taste of her, then focused on her clit with firm, steady strokes. Julie's thighs trembled around his head. "Myles--ah--fuck..." The protests had stopped. Now it was just gasps and whimpers, her hips rolling against his mouth as he worked her closer to the edge.
He slid two fingers inside her, curling them just right while his tongue kept circling. She came hard within minutes, back bowing, a sharp cry echoing off the empty store walls before she bit her lip to muffle it. He didn't stop until she was shaking and pushing weakly at his head, oversensitive and breathless.
Only then did he rise up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand and grinning down at her flushed, dazed expression. His cock was straining painfully against his own jeans. He took the condom out of his pocket then pulled his pants off. He rips the plastic open, wraps the protective tool around his cock, then positions himself at her entrance.
"Look at me," he said softly.
Her eyes met his, hazy with lust.
He pushed in slowly, inch by inch, groaning at how tight and slick she felt around him. "Fuck, Jules... so good." Once he was buried to the hilt, he paused, letting her adjust, then began to move--deep, rolling thrusts that made the old mattress creak beneath them.
Julie's legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him closer. Any remaining resistance had melted away. She met his thrusts now, nails digging into his back through his shirt, moaning openly with every stroke. The abandoned mall amplified everything--the wet sounds of their bodies meeting, her soft cries, his low grunts of pleasure.
Myles stayed buried deep inside her, savoring the way her warmth pulsed and fluttered around him. The old mattress dipped gently beneath their combined weight as he held himself still for a long moment, simply feeling her. The dusty afternoon light filtered through the cracked skylight above, casting a soft golden haze over her flushed skin. In that quiet, abandoned space, everything felt intimate and suspended in time.
God, we haven't made love like this in forever, he thought, a deep wave of affection and desire washing through him. Not since the early months of dating, when every touch felt electric and they would lose hours exploring each other slowly, like they had all the time in the world. Life had gradually turned their intimacy sweeter but more rushed, more routine. This moment--raw, tender, and completely theirs in the heart of this forgotten place--felt like rediscovering that fire.
He lowered his head and kissed her deeply, unhurried, his tongue sliding against hers in a slow, sensual dance. His hips began to move in long, rolling waves, drawing out every sensation as he sank into her again and again. Julie's breath hitched into a soft moan against his mouth, her body arching to meet him. Her hands slid up his back, fingers pressing into his muscles as she pulled him closer, legs wrapping around his waist.
"You feel incredible," he whispered against her lips, his voice low and rough with emotion. One hand caressed down her side, cupping her breast tenderly, thumb brushing over her hardened nipple in slow circles. He kissed along her jaw, then down the elegant column of her neck, sucking lightly at the sensitive skin while his steady, deep thrusts continued. Every movement was deliberate, meant to savor her--the tight, silky heat enveloping him, the way her body welcomed him so perfectly.
The abandoned mattress store seemed to hold its breath around them. The distant echoes of the empty mall faded completely. There was only the soft creak of the bed, the quiet sounds of their shared pleasure, and the intimate slide of skin on skin. Myles kept the pace languid and passionate, grinding against her with each deep stroke so he could feel her clit rub against him. Her moans grew sweeter, breathier, her inner walls beginning to flutter and clench around his cock as pleasure built slowly between them.
He gazed down at her, eyes locked with hers in the golden light. "I love you like this," he murmured, voice thick. "I could stay right here with you forever."
Julie's fingers threaded into his hair, pulling him down for another lingering kiss as her hips rose to meet his. The slow, deep roll of their bodies continued, unhurried and passionate. He moved in long, luxurious strokes, withdrawing almost completely before sinking back into her with a smooth, deliberate thrust that drew a low, throaty moan from her lips.
The sound echoed through the empty mattress store, unrestrained and beautiful.
Myles groaned loudly in response, a deep, guttural sound that vibrated against her neck. "Fuck, baby... so good," he breathed, his voice rough with pleasure. He didn't hold back. There was no reason to. For once, they were truly, completely alone--no thin dorm walls, no roommates on the other side of the door, no need to bite pillows or muffle sounds with kisses. Back at school, their sex life had become a careful dance of whispers and suppressed gasps, always listening for footsteps in the hallway or a key turning in the lock. Here, in the vast silence of Glasshaven, that pressure had vanished.
He thrust deeper, grinding his hips against her in a slow circle that made her gasp sharply. Julie's moan rose louder this time, unrestrained and needy, filling the dusty air around them. It sent a fresh surge of lust through him. Encouraged, Myles let his own sounds flow freely--low, primal grunts each time he bottomed out inside her, the wet, intimate sounds of their joining mixing with their voices. Julie's moans grew louder, freer, each one pushing him closer to the edge while he fought to draw this out.
He kissed her fiercely, tongues tangling as their bodies moved together in perfect rhythm. One hand slid down to grip her hip, holding her steady as he filled her again and again. The slow burn built between them, passionate and consuming, every stroke deliberate, every shared breath heavy with lust.
Myles lost himself in the feeling of her--the way her pussy clenched and fluttered around his cock, the way her legs tightened around him, pulling him impossibly closer. Here, with no one to interrupt and no need for silence, they could finally let go completely.
Myles kept moving inside her with that same slow, deep rhythm, savoring every tight, silky inch as he rolled his hips. Julie's fingers were still tangled in his hair, her body arching beautifully beneath him, when he felt her suddenly tense in a different way. Her inner walls fluttered around his cock, but it wasn't from building pleasure this time.
He lifted his head from her neck and noticed it immediately.
Her eyes were wide, locked on something beyond his shoulder. Her face was a raw, intoxicating mix of lingering arousal and sudden fear -- cheeks still flushed dark with heat, lips parted and swollen from kissing, breath coming in short, needy pants... yet her pupils were blown wide with shock, her brows drawn together in alarm. She looked utterly torn between the overwhelming lust still pulsing through her body and the sharp spike of terror cutting through it. It was the most erotic and unsettling thing he had ever seen.
"Myles," she whispers. "Look."
A cold prickle ran down his spine. He slowed his thrusts but didn't pull out, still buried deep inside her warmth as he twisted his upper body to glance back over his shoulder.
There, standing in the dim, dust-filled light of the main atrium just beyond the mattress store entrance, was a tall shadowy silhouette.
Phil
Phil sat behind the front desk of the old LensCrafters, the worn chair creaking under his weight as he scrolled through Twitter on his phone. Doomscrolling is a pastime he's not proud of. The feed was the usual blur of arguments, memes, politics, and sponsored garbage. Nothing held his interest for long. With a sigh, he set the phone face-down on the dusty counter and rubbed a hand over his jaw.
In his opinion, being security for Glasshaven was about as easy a job as any man could ask for. No crowds, no shoplifters, almost no real trouble beyond the occasional bored teenager or homeless person looking for shelter. The pay let him live pretty comfortably. He was a simple man, so he didn't need much. The hours were predictable, and the building was so massive that most days he felt more like a caretaker than a guard. But easy didn't mean satisfying. The boredom gnawed at him. Hours of the same empty corridors, the same silence pressing in from every direction. It left a man with too much time to think about where his life had settled.
He pushed back from the desk and stood, rolling his broad shoulders. Another lap wouldn't hurt. At least it got the blood moving. Plus he needs to get his steps in.
Phil stepped out into the main atrium, his boots echoed softly in the vast space. Afternoon light poured through the skylights in hazy beams, illuminating drifting dust like lazy fireflies. He walked at an easy pace, eyes scanning storefronts out of habit more than necessity. About halfway through his loop, something caught his attention near one of the larger anchor stores. A thick metal support beam protruded from a collapsed section of ceiling inside a former department store entrance. He'd used it as a makeshift pull-up bar plenty of times before. It was solid, still anchored well enough, and offered a decent challenge.
Phil approached it, glancing around once out of habit. No one here but him. He jumped up, gripped the cool metal with both hands, and pulled himself smoothly upward. His muscles engaged immediately--lats, biceps, shoulders burning in that familiar, satisfying way. He did a slow, controlled set of eight reps, chin clearing the beam each time, then lowered himself with equal care.
Fitness has become more important to him these last few years. At forty-two, he could feel the slow creep of age in small ways--the way recovery took a little longer, the way he had to be more intentional about staying strong. He wasn't trying to look like some twenty-year-old gym rat, but he refused to let himself soften. The divorce had sharpened that resolve. Keeping his body capable and his posture straight gave him a quiet pride, a sense of control in a life that had otherwise grown quieter and more routine than he'd expected. Push-ups in his apartment, runs every other day, and these occasional pull-ups in an abandoned mall helped remind him he was still very much alive.
Phil dropped back to the floor, breathing a little heavier, a light sheen of sweat on his skin. The brief exertion felt good. Clearing the head. He wiped his hands on his uniform pants and continued his lap, the echo of his footsteps the only sound keeping him company in the silent cathedral of Glasshaven. Until a faint nose catches his attention.
He paused, head cocked slightly. At first it barely registered -- just another random creak in the old building. But then it came again, softer yet unmistakable. A low, breathy sound. He turned slowly, listening hard, trying to get a sense of where it was coming from. The mall's vast acoustics made it tricky; the noise seemed to echo from everywhere and nowhere at once.
He started walking again, boots quiet on the tile, pausing every few steps to listen. It wasn't until he passed the central atrium that the sounds clarified. They were definitely coming from upstairs. A woman's moan, soft and lingering. Followed by a deeper, masculine grunt.
Phil's steps slowed. Curiosity and a sense of duty pulled him toward the frozen escalator. He climbed the motionless metal steps one by one, the noises growing clearer and more intimate the closer he got. Breathless moans. Low, rhythmic grunts. The unmistakable sounds of two people lost in each other.
He reached the second floor and moved down the wide corridor, following the sound until he stood just outside the entrance to the old mattress store. The windows were boarded, with graffiti sprayed on the aged wood. Phil stopped in the shadowed doorway.
Inside, near the back on one of the few intact display beds, a young couple was tangled together in passionate lovemaking. The girl was on her back, legs wrapped tight around the man's waist as he moved inside her with slow, deep rolls of his hips. Both of them were moaning openly, voices carrying freely through the abandoned store.
Usually, Phil's reaction would consist of yelling and telling them to knock it off and get out. But this time, he stood completely still, unable to look away. His gaze locked on the woman. She was stunning -- slim but curved in all the right places, her mixed Latina-Asian features flushed with pleasure, dark hair spilled across the dusty comforter. Her body was incredible: narrow waist flaring into full, feminine hips, smooth skin glowing in the slanted sunlight. The way she arched and moved beneath her partner, the natural bounce of her small perky breasts, the tight grip of her legs around him -- it was all so raw and beautiful.
He hadn't seen a woman with a body like that in quite some time. Not in the flesh, and certainly not like this. The sight stirred something deep and long-buried in him, a hungry appreciation that made his throat tighten and his pulse kick up.
Phil remained motionless in the shadows, watching the passionate scene unfold, unable to tear his eyes away from the sexy young woman lost in ecstasy on the bed. He told himself he should step forward, clear his throat, bark out the usual official nonsense about trespassing and private property. That was the job. That was what the uniform demanded.
Instead, something older and quieter took hold of him. A hunger he hadn't felt in years uncoiled low in his belly as he watched the young couple. God, that girl is something else, he thought to himself. Slim and strong and curved in ways that made a man remember he was still alive. Her skin had that warm, sun-kissed tone, her dark hair spilled across the faded comforter like ink on old paper, and every slow roll of her hips beneath the boy sent a fresh wave of heat through Phil's blood.
He crept closer, boots making almost no sound on the dusty tile, stopping behind a half-collapsed shelving unit a respectful but dangerous distance away. Close enough to see everything. Close enough to hear every wet slide, every gasp, every unrestrained moan that spilled from her parted lips. The boy was moving inside her with long, deliberate strokes, and she was taking him beautifully, legs locked tight around his waist, back arching in that perfect, helpless way. As he inches closer he notices a backpack laying on one of the mattresses. Items are spilling out of it, and Phil notices a green text book with the words Property of the University of Charlotte written in small print towards the bottom. So it's a couple of college kids, Phil thinks to himself. What I'd give to relive those days...
Phil's breath grew shallow. He felt himself thickening against the front of his uniform pants, the heavy, insistent ache of an erection he hadn't experienced this strongly in a long damn time. It had been years since he'd had a woman--real years, not just the occasional lonely night with his own hand. The divorce had left that part of him dormant, buried under routine and quiet disappointment. But watching this random woman now, watching the way her full breasts moved with each thrust, the way her face twisted in raw pleasure, the way she let herself moan loud and free in this empty cathedral of a place... it woke something hungry and almost feral inside him.
He stayed hidden in the shadows, tall and motionless, one big hand resting on the edge of the growing unit. His heart beat slow and heavy in his chest. H knew this was wrong. But right now he honestly didn't care. It was fucking hot. He took his belt off slowly, careful to not make a sound. The leather slid free of the loops, and he set it next to the lone backpack. His hand moved lower, palming the thick, insistent bulge straining against his uniform pants. Phil's eyes never left the girl.
She was exquisite. The kind of beauty that felt almost cruel in a place like this, a warm, living flame burning in the cold decay of Glasshaven. Her mixed features were flushed and lovely, her dark hair spreading blissfully across the comforter, lips parted on another unrestrained moan as the boy sank deep into her again. Those full hips, that narrow waist, the gentle bounce of her small but perfect breasts with every slow thrust... Phil drank it all in, his breath growing ragged. She looked so alive, so fucking desirable, her body moving with natural grace even in the grip of passion. He couldn't remember the last time he'd seen a woman like her, let alone one giving herself so completely. He just wishes she was giving it to him.
He freed his cock with a quiet exhale, thick and heavy in his palm. It throbbed angrily, already leaking at the tip. Wrapping his large hand around the shaft, he began to stroke--slow, deliberate pulls that matched the rhythm of the couple on the bed. The skin was hot, velvet over steel. Each stroke sent a dull, aching pleasure rolling through him, the kind that had grown rare and precious with age.
Look at her, he thought, eyes locked on the way her legs tightened around the boy's waist, pulling him deeper. So beautiful. So perfect. The way she arches... the way she moans like she doesn't care who hears. She's totally lost in lust right now. Every woman deserves to feel like that...
Phil's strokes grew a little firmer, his thumb swiping over the sensitive head on each upstroke as he watched her dark eyes flutter, her mouth falling open in another loud, sweet cry of pleasure. The boy was fucking her with slow, passionate rolls of his hips, and she was meeting every thrust, lost in it, her voice carrying freely through the empty store. No shame. No restraint.
Phil's jaw tightened, a low, barely audible grunt escaping him as he pumped his fist faster. He imagined it was him between those smooth thighs instead, imagining how tight and hot she would feel, how her full hips would feel under his hands. She was everything he hadn't touched in far too long--vibrant, sensual, young. He kept stroking, steady and hungry, hidden in the shadows while the lovers moved together in their private world of dust and golden light. The vast, decaying mall watched silently with him.
Then suddenly the woman's eyes open and make direct contact with Phils.
For a frozen heartbeat, the entire abandoned mall seemed to hold its breath. Her gaze widened, a sharp mix of shock and lingering arousal flashing across her face. She stiffened beneath her lover, her moan cutting off into a startled gasp. Then she whispered something to him. The boy's head snaps around. His thrusting stops instantly, hips freezing mid-stroke as he stared back over his shoulder at the tall, broad-shouldered security guard standing in the shadows. The young man's face drained of color, his body going rigid while he remained buried deep inside her.
Phil stood motionless, one big hand still wrapped firmly around his exposed, throbbing erection. His heart hammered heavy in his chest, but his expression remained calm, almost unnervingly steady. He didn't flinch. Didn't try to hide what he was doing. He simply met their stares, cock still hard and slick in his grip.
The silence stretched, thick and electric, broken only by the faint creak of the old mattress and their ragged breathing. Finally, the older man spoke, his deep voice low and rough, carrying easily through the empty store. "Keep going," he said.
He gave his cock one slow, deliberate stroke, eyes never leaving the beautiful young woman sprawled beneath her boyfriend. "Don't stop on my account." He wants the show to continue. Right now, his mind and body are riding an enormous wave of euphoria; he hopes the couple feels the same way. He knows it's a huge gamble, but right now all he could think about is how great it would feel to be inside her thighs.
The boy remained frozen, buried to the hilt inside the girl, his face a mask of pure shock. It was almost comical, but Phil forced himself not to laugh. But the girl... she didn't pull away. Her fingers stayed threaded tightly in his hair, and with a slow, deliberate tug, she steered his face back down to hers. Phil watched, mesmerized, as she whispered something against the boy's lips--soft, urgent words he couldn't quite make out. Whatever she said worked. Myles let out a shaky breath, and then his hips began to move again.
Slow at first, then deeper, falling back into that passionate rhythm. The girl moaned softly as he sank into her, her legs tightening around his waist once more. Their bodies resumed their intimate dance on the dusty display bed, the wet sounds of him sliding in and out of her filling the empty store.
Phil's breath caught. This was easily one of the hottest scenes he had ever witnessed in his life. The raw, surreal beauty of it--the gorgeous young woman willingly continuing to fuck her boyfriend right in front of him, her eyes occasionally flicking toward Phil with that same dazed, horny-frightened look--felt like something out of a fever dream. In all his years on the job, he had never seen anything even close to this. A few kids smoking or tagging walls, sure. But a beautiful woman getting it on with her boyfriend while making eye contact with the security guard watching them? Never. Not even in his wildest, loneliest fantasies.
He started walking closer, steadily, his heavy boots echoing across the dusty floor. His hand never stopped moving on his cock--long, steady strokes that matched the rhythm of the boy's thrusts. The closer he got, the more detail he could see: the sheen of sweat on her sun-kissed skin, the way her breasts moved with every deep plunge, the perfect curve of her hips as she rocked up to meet her boyfriend. She was breathtaking. Irresistible.
Phil stopped just a few inches from the edge of the bed, towering over them. He couldn't help himself. The need to touch her became unbearable, a deep, primal hunger that overrode every scrap of common sense he had left. He reached out with his free hand, the one not slowly stroking his heavy cock, and let his rough palm glide slowly up the smooth, warm skin of her bare leg. A moan escaped her mouth when she his hand made contact. She was even softer than he'd imagined--sun-warmed silk stretched over firm muscle. His fingers traced the curve of her calf, then higher, over her knee and along the sensitive inside of her thigh. He felt her tremble under his touch.
The boyfriend kept making love to her, but his rhythm was growing erratic, desperate. His breathing turned ragged, his grunts sharpening. Meanwhile Phil's hand continued its slow exploration, inching higher until his fingertips brushed the place where the young man's cock was still sliding in and out of her. The heat radiating from her soaked pussy was incredible.
With a sudden, choked cry, the boy buried himself deep inside his girlfriend one last time and Phil could tell from the way his body shuddered that he was cumming. Thirty seconds later he pulled out, rolling off her with a spent groan and collapsing onto the mattress beside her, his chest heaving.
The women lay there, legs still spread, breathing fast. Phil caught a flash of annoyance crossed her flushed face. He knew she wasn't finished. Not even close. Her hips shifted restlessly on the dusty comforter, her glistening pussy visibly clenching around nothing, still aching and empty. The hunger in her dark eyes was unmistakable.
Phil felt a spark ignite deep inside his chest, something fierce and alive that he hadn't felt in years--not since the early days with Stacy, back when desire still burned hot and reckless. This woman, this stunning creature spread out before him, awakened it all over again.
He climbed onto the bed, the old frame creaking under his heavier weight. Without a word, he reached down and ran both hands up her thighs, spreading them wider. His palms were large and calloused, sliding possessively over her hips and waist, feeling the dip of her narrow midsection before cupping her breasts. He squeezed them gently, thumbs brushing over her stiff nipples, drinking in the way her back arched off the mattress at his touch.
"You're not done yet, are you, sweetheart?" he murmured, voice low and gravelly, thick with years of pent-up need. "Look at you... dripping, aching for more."
The woman gasped, but she didn't pull away. He positioned himself between her spread thighs, his thick cockhead nudging against her slick entrance. He rubbed it up and down her wet slit, coating himself in her juices, teasing her swollen clit with every pass.
"Oh my fucking God," She moans as she closes her eyes.
"Been a long time since I've seen a woman as beautiful as you," he said hoarsely, eyes devouring every inch of her body. "This tight little pussy... these perfect hips... I need to feel you."
Her eyes flutter open and she turns towards her boyfriend. "Myles," She says, struggling to catch her breath.
Phil paused, the thick, blunt head of his cock still pressed right against her dripping entrance, throbbing with every heartbeat. He held himself there, letting her feel the sheer size and heat of him, while his rough hands continued to caress her thighs and hips with slow, possessive strokes.
Myles lay beside them on the mattress, eyes wide as a deer caught in the brightest headlights of its life. His mouth hung slightly open, chest still heaving from his own orgasm, but he didn't move. He didn't speak. He simply stared, frozen in stunned silence, watching as the tall security guard hovered over his girlfriend.
"Myles..." She says again.
Phil bends down, his mouth finding her right breast with slow, deliberate hunger. He kissed the soft, warm swell first, lips brushing reverently over the sensitive skin before his tongue traced a lazy circle around her stiff nipple. The woman arched into him with a shaky moan, her hands gripping his shoulders. He cupped her left breast in his large hand, squeezing gently, thumb rolling over the hardened peak in perfect rhythm with his mouth.
He sucked her right nipple deeper into his mouth, tongue flicking and swirling as he savored the taste of her. A low, appreciative groan rumbled from his chest. She tasted like salt and sweetness and pure, living desire. He switched sides, lavishing the same slow, worshipful attention on her other breast, sucking harder now, grazing her with just the edge of his teeth until her moans grew louder and more desperate. Only when she was trembling beneath him did he finally lift his head. His eyes locked onto hers, dark with lust.
"So what's your name gorgeous?"
"Julie..." she whispered, the name slipping out between soft, broken moans as he gave her one slow, grinding roll of his hips.
"Julie," Phil repeated, tasting it, savoring it. "Beautiful name for a beautiful fucking woman."
He shifted higher up her body, covering her completely with his larger frame, and finally kissed her on the mouth. It started slow and deep. His lips claimed hers with surprising tenderness at first, then growing hunger. His tongue slid into her mouth, tangling with hers in a slow, sensual dance. Julie moaned softly into the kiss, her hands gripping his shoulders tighter. Phil kissed her like a man who had been starving for years -- thorough, passionate, and unrelenting. One of his hands cradled the side of her face while the other roamed down her side, squeezing her hip, pulling her closer against him.
He kept kissing her, devouring her soft whimpers, grinding his thick, hard cock against her soaked pussy without entering her yet. The heavy shaft slid between her slick folds, rubbing over her swollen clit with every slow roll of his hips.
After a long, heated kiss, Phil finally broke away just enough to look down at her flushed face. He reached down, gripped his thick cock, and was preparing to enter her.
Julie turned her head slightly toward Myles, breathing hard.
"Myles..." she whispered, voice shaky with lust and uncertainty. "Are you okay?"
Myles stared at them, wide-eyed like a deer frozen in headlights. His mouth opened slightly but no words came out at first. After a few heavy seconds, he gave a small, almost imperceptible nod.
"Get a condom out," Julie breathed, voice shaky with need.
Phil's jaw tightened. He hated condoms -- always had. The thought of anything between him and that perfect, wet heat made something primal flare inside him. But he stayed quiet, not wanting to ruin this moment.
Myles blinked a few times, still in a daze. He hesitated for a second, then slid off the opposite side of the bed. Completely naked from the waist down, his spent cock hanging soft against his thigh, he walked unsteadily over to his backpack near the entrance of the store. He rummaged through it for a moment before pulling out a single foil packet.
While Myles was turned away, Julie looked back up at Phil, her eyes searching his face. "Are you clean?" she asked softly, almost whispering.
Phil nodded, his voice low and steady. "Yeah. I'm clean. Got tested a couple months ago. Haven't been with anyone since."
Julie bit her lip, still breathing hard. "What's your name?"
"Phil," he answered. This little intermission makes him realize that his shirt is still on. He slowly unbuttons the top, then gracefully throws it onto the ground. He sits on top of her, completely naked.
Myles returned to the side of the bed and held out the condom with a silent, trembling hand. Phil didn't even glance at the boy. He simply reached over, took the packet from him without acknowledgment, and tore it open with his teeth. The latex ring felt tight -- almost uncomfortably so -- as he rolled it down over his thick, throbbing cock. It stretched tight around his girth, but it would have to do.
Phil looked back down at Julie, his eyes dark with hunger. He rubbed the sheathed head of his cock up and down her soaked slit once more, then positioned himself at her entrance.
Without another word, he pushed forward, slow and relentless, stretching her open around the condom as he sank deep inside her once again.
Phil let out a deep, guttural groan at how incredible she felt. The tightness was intense. The latex felt restrictive, almost painfully snug around his thick shaft, but the heat of her pussy more than made up for it. He groaned deeply as he bottomed out, his heavy balls pressing against her. Julie let out a long, shuddering moan, her walls fluttering and clenching around the intrusion.
"Fuck, Julie..." Phil breathed, voice rough with pleasure. He held himself still for a moment, letting her adjust to his size, savoring the way she gripped him. Then he began to move -- long, deep, powerful strokes that made the old mattress creak beneath them.
He fucked her with steady, passionate rhythm, each thrust deliberate and thorough. His mouth found hers again, kissing her hungrily while one hand roamed her body, squeezing her breast and rolling her nipple between his fingers. Every time he drove into her, a wet, muffled sound escaped around the condom, obscene in the silent store.
Myles sat on the edge of the bed a few feet away, still naked from the waist down, watching everything with that same wide-eyed, stunned expression. He hadn't said a word.
Phil glanced at him once, then turned his full attention back to Julie. He hooked one of her legs higher over his hip, changing the angle so he could grind against her clit with every deep thrust. Her moans grew louder, freer, her nails digging into his shoulders as pleasure built inside her again.
"You feel incredible," Phil growled against her neck, sucking on her skin as he picked up the pace. "So tight... so wet for me. Been years since I've had pussy this good."
He kissed her hard, hips snapping forward in a steady, relentless rhythm, determined to give her everything her boyfriend couldn't finish. The dusty afternoon light poured over their joined bodies while the vast, empty mall watched in silence.
Phil drove into her with another deep, powerful thrust, and Julie cried out in utter pleasure, her voice echoing sharply through the empty mattress store.
"Oh my God, Phil!" she moaned loudly, her head falling back against the dusty comforter. "Fuck... you're so big. I can feel you stretching me so much."
Her words sent a surge of heat through him. Phil groaned and picked up the pace, fucking her with long, steady strokes. He wasn't making love, he was straight fucking her. The old bed creaked rhythmically beneath them as he gave her everything he had.
"Yes... just like that," Julie gasped, her nails digging harder into his broad shoulders. "Don't stop. God, it feels so good."
She wrapped both legs tightly around his waist, pulling him even deeper on every thrust. Her hips started rolling up to meet him, greedy and eager.
"Mmmm,," she mumbled, voice dripping with lust. "Fuck me harder. I need it."
Phil obliged, slamming into her with more force. The wet, filthy sound of his cock plunging into her soaked pussy filled the store. Julie's moans turned into shameless cries.
"Fuck yes!" she practically shouted, eyes rolling back. "You're so huge-- oh my god I love your cock!"
Her words flipped a switch inside Phil. He growled and fucked her harder, pounding into her with deep, passionate strokes while his mouth attacked her breasts and lips. Julie's body trembled beneath him, her pussy clenching and fluttering around his thick, condom-covered cock.
"I'm gonna come," she whimpered, voice breaking. "Phil... you're gonna make me come so hard on your cock. Please -- keep fucking me just like that!"
She cried out even louder as her orgasm hit, her walls spasming violently around him, back arching clean off the bed. Phil kept thrusting through it, drawing out every wave of her pleasure. He turned towards Myles and gave him a wide grin; the boy just watched silently from the side, frozen in stunned disbelief.
Phil kept fucking her deep and steady through her orgasm, savoring every pulse and flutter of her tight pussy around his cock. He was close. Her shameless cries had pushed him right to the edge.
"Fuck, Julie--" he growled, voice strained. "I'm gonna come."
He buried himself as deep as the condom would allow and came hard with a long, guttural groan. His thick cock pulsed repeatedly inside her, filling the latex with heavy shots. He kept grinding slowly into her through the last waves of his release, groaning against her neck as the intense pleasure rolled through him.
Finally, he collapsed beside her on the bed, breathing hard. Without thinking, he pulled Julie into his arms, wrapping his bigger body around her protectively. She nestled against his chest, still trembling, her skin warm and damp with sweat. For a long minute, the only sounds were their ragged breathing and the faint creak of the old mattress as they tried to catch their breath.
Time stretched in the golden, sacred light of the abandoned store. Phil gently planted soft kisses on her neck. Then the mattress shifted.
Myles had gotten up. He walked around to Julie's side of the bed, still completely naked from the waist down, and sat on the very edge. He looked lost, overwhelmed.
"What the fuck just happened?" he asked quietly, his voice cracking slightly.
Phil didn't move. He kept one arm wrapped firmly around Julie, holding her close against his body as he looked over at the younger man with calm, steady eyes. Julie stayed nestled in Phil's embrace, silent for the moment. Myles was tense, his eyes kept darting between the unlikely pair.
Phil's voice came out low and calm, cutting through the thick silence. "Instead of calling the cops and having you both arrested for trespassing, I just fucked your girlfriend. That's what happened."
The tension in the air became almost suffocating. Myles stared at him, mouth slightly open, while Julie remained still against Phil's chest, her breathing shallow. The vast emptiness of the mall seemed to press in around the three of them.
Phil let the silence linger for a few more seconds, then decided to cut through it. He stroked Julie's bare hip with his thumb and asked in a surprisingly casual tone, "You two ever had a threesome before?"
Julie lifted her head slightly from Phil's chest. "Never," she said softly, almost whispering.
Myles shook his head, still looking stunned. "Nope...."
Phil nodded slowly, a faint, hungry smile tugging at the corner of his mouth as he held Julie a little closer. " Well, now you have."
"How old are you?" Julie asks.
"Forty-two," Phil answered. "Have you ever been with an older man"?
"No... I'm only twenty. And Myles just turned twenty one. You're old enough to be my dad."
Phil chuckles. "You're right. But I find that aspect kind of hot."
Then she asks, "Is Phil your real name?"
"Yeah."
Myles reached across the bed and took Julie's hand. She laced her fingers with his without hesitation, the simple gesture visible between their bodies. Phil could feel the subtle shift in her -- the way she held onto her boyfriend while still lying comfortably against his own chest. The contrast sent a strange, possessive thrill through him.
Phil's gaze moved between the two of them for a moment before he spoke again, his tone casual but probing.
"So, you two go to UNC Charlotte?"
Myles nodded slowly, still looking a little out of it. "Yeah... we do."
Julie stayed quiet, her thumb gently stroking the back of Myles' hand while her other fingers rested lightly on Phil's chest. The three of them lay there in the strange, golden-lit silence of the abandoned store, the weight of what had just happened settling over them like the dust floating in the air.
"What are you going for?"
"Software Engineering." Myles's voice was so low that Phil barely heard his answer. He looks down at Julie.
"And you?"
"Sociology,"
"And here I thought you couldn't get even more sexy."
Julie let out a soft, breathless laugh against his chest, the sound surprisingly light given everything that had just happened. Myles shifted uncomfortably on the edge of the bed but didn't let go of her hand.
A comfortable but charged silence settled over them again for a few moments.
Phil glances over at Myles. "What time is it?"
Myles blinked, then reached for his phone on the floor near his backpack. He checked the screen. "Four forty."
Phil nodded. "Mind doing me a favor bud? I left my phone down in the LensCrafters on the first floor, behind the front desk. That's kind of my main base of operations. Can you run down and grab it for me? I need to make sure I didn't miss any urgent texts from my boss."
Myles stared at him, eyebrows raised. "You want me to go get your phone?"
Phil shrugged, completely unfazed. "Yeah."
"Why can't you go get it yourself?"
Phil looked down at Julie, a slow smile spreading across his face. He pulled her closer, one large hand sliding possessively down her back to cup her ass as he leaned in and kissed her deeply. Julie melted into it without hesitation, letting out a soft moan into his mouth as their tongues met.
When Phil finally broke the kiss, he looked back at Myles, lips still inches from Julie's.
"Because," he said calmly, voice low and rough, "I'm a bit busy right now."
He kissed Julie again, slower this time, one hand tangled in her dark hair while the other held her tight against his body. Myles sat there frozen, still clutching her hand, watching as the security guard made out with his girlfriend right beside him.
After a long moment, Phil pulled back from the kiss, leaving Julie slightly breathless. He looked over at Myles again, one eyebrow raised expectantly.
"Well?" Phil asked, his voice calm but firm. "You gonna go grab that phone for me or not?"
Myles swallowed hard, glancing down at Julie, who was still nestled comfortably against Phil's side. She gave Myles' hand a gentle squeeze. "It's ok. I'll be fine."
Myles hesitated for several long seconds, then finally muttered, "Alright then... I'll be right back."
He stood up slowly, still naked from the waist down, and walked over to pull on his jeans and shoes. The whole time, Phil kept one arm wrapped around Julie, his fingers idly stroking her skin as he watched the younger man get dressed. He couldn't help but notice how much smaller Myle's cock is compared to his. The revelation puts a smile on his face.
Myles glanced back at them one last time before he turned and headed out of the mattress store toward the escalator. Phil yells after the young lad. "It's legit straight down the hallway. But if you get lost, look at the directories. They're intact for the most part."
The sound of his footsteps faded down the corridor.
Once he was gone, Phil rolled Julie over so she was facing him. "You know," he murmured, already hard again and pressing against her, "I've been working here for over a year now. Caught my fair share of troublemakers in that short amount of time. And I've kicked out people like you before. Think they call it Urban Exploring or some shit. But honestly, I never would have guessed that someone as hot as you would be into that sorta stuff."
"I'm not, really. That's more of my boyfriend's thing. I'm just along for the ride today."
At forty-two, Phil wasn't used to stumbling into moments like this. But the sight of her flushed skin and the way her body was still trembling from what he'd just witnessed had stirred something in him he hadn't felt in years.
"Well, damn," he said, his voice deep and smooth, eyes roaming over her face. "Lucky boyfriend. Though between you and me... I think you might've just found a better ride."
Julie's breath caught as Phil pulled her closer, their bodies pressed together.
"I bet you didn't expect anything like this to happen today."
Julie lets out a nervous laugh. "Absolutely not. I'm not even sure what the fuck is even happening." Silence looms over them, but Phil could tell by the look on her face that she wants to say something. "You're not gonna call the cops?" she finally asked, her voice nervous.
Phil smirked, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear with surprising gentleness. "Sweetheart, if I was gonna call anyone, I would've done it twenty minutes ago when I first saw you riding him like that. No... I think we can work something out." His hand drifted lower, cupping her ass and squeezing possessively. "You've got a hell of a body. The kind that makes a man forget he's supposed to be doing his job."
Julie bits her lip. "So what happens now?" she whispered.
Phil leaned in, his lips brushing the shell of her ear as he spoke, low and rough. "Now? I think you stay right here and let me show you what a real security check feels like." He rolled his hips forward, letting her feel how hard he still was. "Been a long time since anything interesting happened in this dead mall... and I'm not in any hurry to end this little adventure of yours."
He pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes, a slow, confident smile spreading across his face. "Unless you want me to stop?"
"I've never done anything like this," she admitted quietly, almost shyly. "Never slept with a complete stranger... and never while I was already in a relationship."
Phil gave her a slow, understanding smile. "Hey," he said, voice low and reassuring, "you don't have to feel guilty about a damn thing. You're young, beautiful, and you're exploring. Life's too short to stay locked in a box all the time. Your boyfriend is ok with it, I mean he let everything play out." His hand slid up to gently cup a small breast, thumb brushing over her nipple. "Besides... the way you were moaning when I stepped in? That didn't sound like guilt to me. That sounded like you needed it. Needed it bad."
Julie blushed, then added softly, "This is... my first threesome, too."
Phil paused for a second, then let out a deep, genuine laugh. The sound rumbled through his broad chest as he shook his head, clearly amused. "Threesome?" He said, cocky and confident. "Sweetheart, that wasn't a threesome. I was just feeding the kid some bullshit so he wouldn't freak out and make a scene. Also, I don't really need my phone. I could bet you a thousand dollars there isn't a single message from my boss. The only reason I told him to go get it was because I wanted him out of the way, so I could have you all to myself."
He leaned in closer, and he could see goosebumps start to form on her neck. "Truth is," he murmured, voice dripping with smug satisfaction, "your little boyfriend wasn't getting the job done. I watched him for a minute -- cute technique, sure -- but you needed a man who actually knows how to fuck a woman properly. So I stepped in and handled it. And from the way you came all over my cock... I'd say I did a pretty damn good job, wouldn't you?"
"Yeah..." Julie's voice trials off.
"Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice kid," Phil added with a lazy smirk. "But you needed someone who could actually make you lose control. And that's exactly what I did."
He pulled back just enough to look her in the eyes, his expression full of arrogant hunger.
"So tell me, Julie... how does it feel knowing a real man just made you cum harder than your boyfriend ever has -- right in the middle of his little adventure?"
"It... it felt really good," she admitted, cheeks burning. "I've never experienced an orgasm like that before..."
A satisfied smirk spread across Phil's face. "That's what I thought."
"And you're... quite gifted." She looked nervous, as if admitting how large Phil's cock was would cross the line.
Before she could say anything else, he leaned in and kissed her. It wasn't gentle. His mouth claimed hers with a deep, possessive hunger, tongue sliding against hers as one big hand cupped the back of her head. Julie moaned softly into the kiss, her body responding even as her mind tried to catch up.
They kissed for a long moment, slow and heated, until she pulled back just enough to breathe.
"We... we shouldn't be doing this," she murmured against his lips, voice shaky.
Phil didn't stop. He kissed her again, deeper this time, his hand sliding down to squeeze her ass.
"Myles..." she gasped between kisses. "We should wait for Myles..."
"Don't worry about him," Phil growled against her mouth, nipping at her lower lip. "He's away grabbing my phone like a good boy. Right now it's just you and me, sweetheart." He kissed her harder, swallowing her next weak protest as his tongue explored her mouth. "Just the two of us."
Julie whimpered, torn between guilt and fresh arousal, but Phil didn't give her time to overthink. He rolled her over onto her stomach with ease, his strong hands gripping her hips and pulling her up onto her knees. She gasped as he positioned her on all fours, her ass raised toward him, back arched beautifully in the afternoon light.
Phil knelt behind her, running his large hands over the smooth curves of her ass, spreading her open so he could see how wet she still was.
"Fuck, look at you," he muttered, voice thick with lust. "Perfect little pussy just waiting for me."
He rubbed the thick head of his cock up and down her slick folds, teasing her entrance before slowly pushing inside. Julie moaned loudly as he stretched her open, inch by inch, until he was buried to the hilt. Phil groaned deeply, gripping her hips tighter.
"God damn... still so tight," he breathed.
"Wait!" Julie gasps. "Condom."
"But we don't need one, sweetheart, I can pull out. Besides, I already told you I'm perfectly clean."
"Phil... we should--"
"Shh." He gently grabbed her neck and kissed her, deep and slow, while continuing to rub his bare cock up and down her wet folds. "You felt how good it was when I came inside you earlier. You squeezed me so fucking tight when I filled you up... I know you liked it." He rocked his hips, letting his cock slide along her pussy lips. "Don't you want to feel that again? Just me, raw, stretching this pretty little pussy?"
Julie moaned softly, clearly conflicted but visibly aroused by his words.
"Let me fuck you properly, Julie. Skin to skin. Nothing between us. I want to feel every inch of this tight, wet cunt while I'm buried inside you." He nudged forward slightly, just enough for the head to slip inside her before pulling back out. "Come on, baby... let me have you raw."
After a few more seconds of hesitation and teasing, Julie finally gave in with a shaky breath and a small nod. That was all Phil needed.
He started fucking her with long, powerful strokes -- slow at first, letting her feel every thick inch as he pulled almost all the way out before sliding back in. The wet sounds of their bodies meeting filled the empty mattress store, obscene and loud in the vast silence of the mall. Phil's pace gradually built, his hips snapping forward harder, the sound of skin slapping against skin echoing through the space.
He fucked her steadily, deep and deliberate, the wet slap of his hips against her ass echoing through the empty store. Julie's moans quickly grew louder and more desperate with every thrust. Phil leaned forward, grabbing a fistful of her hair and pushing her face down into the pillow.
"Quiet, baby," he murmured, voice rough with lust as he held her head pressed into the fabric. "Don't want Myles running back here."
Muffled by the pillow, Julie's cries turned into desperate, needy whimpers as Phil continued pounding into her from behind. One hand pulled her hair while the other gripped her hip, pulling her back onto his cock with every thrust.
The position made her feel even tighter around him. Phil groaned deeply, hips snapping forward harder, fucking her with steady, relentless rhythm. The old mattress creaked loudly beneath them as he drove into her again and again, the wet sounds of their raw fucking filling the air.
"That's it," he grunted, voice low and cocky. "Take my cock just like that. Such a good girl letting me fuck you raw in this dirty old mall."
He kept her face buried in the pillow as her moans grew more frantic, her body pushing back against him eagerly.. Phil's pace intensified, long powerful strokes turning into deep, punishing thrusts as he lost himself in the feeling of her tight, unprotected pussy gripping him.
Passion consumes it to the point where he completely loses track of time. The only thing that existed was the tight, wet heat of Julie's pussy gripping his bare cock as he drove into her from behind. Her muffled moans vibrated against the pillow with every deep thrust. He fucked her harder, faster, the sound of skin slapping skin growing louder and more obscene in the empty mattress store. His grip on her hip was bruising as he pulled her back onto his thick shaft again and again.
"Fuck... so good," he growled, voice strained. Sweat slicked his chest as he leaned over her, pounding into her with relentless, powerful strokes. The old mattress creaked violently beneath them. He could feel her pushing back against him, her body greedy for more even as her moans stayed smothered by the pillow.
He lost himself in the raw sensation -- no condom, just her silky walls fluttering and squeezing around him. Every thrust dragged him closer to the edge, but he didn't want it to end. Not yet. He kept going, deep and brutal, chasing the overwhelming pleasure building at the base of his spine.
His breathing grew ragged. His balls tightened. The pressure became almost unbearable.
"Shit... Julie," he groaned, voice hoarse. "I'm gonna cum."
He kept thrusting, trying to hold off just a few more seconds, savoring the way her pussy clenched around him. His strokes became erratic, desperate, hips snapping forward with raw need. The intense pleasure crested sharply.
At the very last second, Phil yanked himself out with a primal groan. Thick, heavy ropes of cum shot across Julie's back in powerful spurts. He kept pumping his cock, moaning as he painted her smooth skin with load after load. The amount was massive, warm streaks landing from the middle of her back all the way up to her shoulder blades. Some even reached the back of her neck.
"Fuuuuck..." Phil hissed through clenched teeth, shuddering as the last few pulses drained from him.
For a moment, the only sounds were their heavy breathing and the distant, hollow silence of the abandoned mall. Phil stared down at the mess he'd made on her back, his chest heaving, a deep sense of satisfaction rolling through him. He ran a hand over one of her ass cheeks, still admiring the view.
"God damn," he muttered, voice rough. "Look at that..."
They stayed like that for a long moment, both breathing hard in the heavy silence of the store. Phil's chest rose and fell as he tried to catch his breath, his heart still hammering from the intensity of what they'd just done. A deep, satisfied exhaustion settled into his muscles.
He finally pulled back and reached for the faded sheet tangled beneath them. With surprisingly gentle hands, he wiped his thick load off her back, cleaning her skin as best he could with the soft fabric. He took his time, dragging the sheet slowly across her smooth curves, admiring the way her body still trembled slightly with the aftershocks.
Once he was done, Phil let out a long, contented sigh and crashed down onto the mattress beside her, lying on his back. The old bed creaked under his weight as he stared up at the cracked ceiling, a lazy, cocky smile spreading across his face.
Fuck, he thought, still riding the high. That was incredible. He couldn't remember the last time he'd fucked someone with that kind of raw intensity. At forty-two, he didn't get opportunities like this -- a gorgeous younger woman, half his age, bent over and moaning for him in the middle of his boring-ass job. The thrill of it, the risk, the way she'd taken every inch of him raw... it made him feel powerful. Alive.
He turned his head to look at her. Julie had pushed herself up into a sitting position, knees drawn toward her chest. She was quiet, staring off toward the entrance of the store and the vast, empty mall beyond. Her expression was unreadable as she sat there, lost in her own thoughts.
Phil didn't mind the silence. He let his eyes roam over her body -- the curve of her back, the way her hair fell messily over her shoulders, the faint red marks his hands had left on her hips. A part of him already wondered how long they had before the boyfriend came looking. Another, louder part of him didn't particularly care.
"You alright?" he asked, though there was a hint of smug satisfaction in his tone. He was still basking in the afterglow, and couldn't hide it.
"Thank you." She turns towards him, and Phil thinks he could see tears welling up. "That was the best sex I've ever had."
"Thanks darling, it means a lot coming from a hottie like you." he said, trying to keep the cocky tone intact, though something about the shine in her eyes made it harder.
She hugged her knees tighter. "That's the problem."
He frowned slightly. "How is that a problem?"
Julie let out a breath that wavered at the end. "Because this wasn't supposed to happen." She glanced toward the dark corridor of the mall again, like she expected someone to appear at any second. "I love Myles."
Phil leaned back on his hands, studying her. A minute ago, he'd felt ten feet tall. Now something colder was creeping in. "You can love someone and still..." He gestured vaguely between them. "Want something else."
"That's exactly what I'm afraid of," she shot back. "We're a normal couple. And now, every time we have sex, I'm going to be wishing it was your cock inside me instead of his."
"I could give you my cock whenever you want it sweetheart."
"No, we can't see each other ever again. We're going to forget everything that happened here today. And try to live as normal of life as we can together."
The air in the store felt different now. The thrill had drained out, and reality was creeping back in. Phil knows this is the moment where he has to justify their actions. If he doesn't, she'll play pretend the rest of her life and act like she's happy; while deep down the burden of today eats her alive, her body reminding her of the pleasures of great sex.
"That's boring," Phil says, sitting up. "You're twenty years old. Body's in phenomenal shape. You're at the age where you should be taking risks, living life without a care in the world. Now is the time to experiment. To try new things, to put yourself out there more. You shouldn't force yourself to live a certain way just because you perceive it as 'normal'.
He leaned in closer, his voice dropping into that low, persuasive tone again.
"You say you love Myles? Fine. Love him. But don't lie to yourself. You just admitted that the best sex of your life wasn't with him. It was with me. Ten minutes ago you were face-down with my cock buried balls-deep inside you, moaning like you'd never been fucked properly before. That kind of pleasure doesn't just disappear because you decide to feel guilty."
"You can go back to him. Play the loyal girlfriend. Smile and tell him everything was fine. But every single time he's on top of you, every time he finishes in two minutes or less and leaves you unsatisfied... you're going to remember how I stretched you open. How I made you cum so hard you had to scream into a pillow. How you let a compete stranger who's twice your age fuck you raw in an abandoned mall and loved every second of it."
He reached up and gently tilted her chin so she was looking at him. There was still that shine in her eyes, that mix of guilt and lingering arousal that made his cock twitch with renewed interest.
"I'm not saying you have to leave him," Phil continued, his tone calm but firm. "I'm saying you don't have to settle. You can have both. You can keep your sweet little relationship... and still get fucked the way you actually need when you want it."
Phil leaned in and kissed her slowly, deeply, giving her a taste of what he was offering. When he pulled back, his voice was husky.
"Think about it. You already crossed the line today. The damage is done. Might as well enjoy it. I can make you feel like that whenever you need it. No strings attached. No one has to know. Let me be your dirty little secret. Although, as you already know, there's nothing little about me..."
He let the offer hang in the air between them, his hand still possessively on her thigh, his eyes locked on hers. Deep down, Phil knew this was the moment. Either she'd pull away and try to run back to her safe life... or she'd start accepting what her body clearly wanted...
Myles
Walking slowly down the wide, empty corridor of the first floor, his flashlight beam cutting through the hazy afternoon light, Myle's footsteps echoed louder than they should have, bouncing off the tiled floors and vacant storefronts. He was heading toward the LensCrafters -- the big anchor spot in the central hub that Phil had mentioned.
But everything felt wrong.
Usually, this was the part he lived for. The moment the initial adrenaline of sneaking in faded and he could just be inside a place like this. He would walk these halls with wide eyes and a stupid grin, taking in every detail -- the way sunlight slanted through broken skylights, the frozen escalators, the ghostly remains of stores frozen in time. Glasshaven should have felt like a cathedral of decay, beautiful in its melancholy.
Instead, his stomach was twisted into a knot so tight he felt nauseous. Every step forward sent another wave of dread rolling through him. The awe was gone. All that remained was a cold, sinking feeling in his chest, like someone had hollowed him out and filled him with cement. He kept replaying the scene in his head on loop: Julie naked underneath the tall stranger. The face she made when he entered her. The sounds she made. Sounds she'd never made like that with him.
And Phil had looked right at him afterward -- cocky, confident, almost challenging -- and told him it was a threesome. That he should do him a favor and grab his phone. Myles had obeyed. He stood up like an idiot, walked out of the matress store, and left his girlfriend alone with a stranger who just got done fucking her. Seeing the older man with his hands wrapped around Julie sent a shiver down his body. In a way, Myles felt like he didn't have a choice in the matter. If he didn't leave when asked, would the man have hurt Julie in some way?
What the fuck did I just do? he thought, his throat tight. I let him have her. I stood there and watched him make her cum harder than I ever have.
Nothing feels real. His hands are shaking slightly at his sides. Part of him wants to turn around and run back to the mattress store. Another, weaker part wanted to watch them together. He felt small. Humiliated. And worst of all -- still shamefully, painfully turned on by what he'd seen.
He gets a sudden pain towards the back of his head. That's when a crazy thought occurs to him. I'm hallucinating, he thinks to himself. I must have damaged my brain somehow when I hit my head yesterday while skateboarding. For a couple minutes that theory sounds very palpable to him. But he eventually rules it out. Schizophrenia sounds more likely.
After fifteen minutes walking Myles gets worried that he missed the store, but then, about fifty feet ahead, glowing red letters of the old LensCrafters sign appeared ahead. The beam of his flashlight swept across the space, revealing a surprisingly intact front counter and several empty display cases. All the glasses had been cleared out long ago, leaving behind nothing but faint rectangular outlines on the faded carpet where the stands once sat. A few pieces of old equipment -- broken optical machines, scattered paperwork, and a dusty lens cleaning station -- lay abandoned across the floor.
He moved deeper into the store, his footsteps echoing softly. In the corner, a small television was still on, playing a local news channel at low volume. Some reporter was talking about upcoming road construction. The normalcy of it felt jarring in the middle of this dead mall.
That's when he saw it. Phil's phone was sitting on the front desk, screen facing up. Myles stared at it for a second, then walked over and picked it up. He turned it over in his hands, admiring the store again for a brief moment. It was actually kind of cool in here. In any other situation, he would've been taking photos of the abandoned optometry equipment and the way the afternoon light hit the empty display shelves. But right now, none of it landed the same way.
The phone suddenly vibrated in his palm. Myles nearly dropped it. The screen lit up with a new message notification. He could see it's from someone named 'Pablo'. That was all he could see. Whatever the message said was hidden behind a privacy setting -- the preview was completely blank.
He couldn't stop replaying it. Myles's breathing grew heavier. His cock, which had been half-hard the entire walk through the mall, was now fully straining against his pants, throbbing painfully. A sick, overwhelming wave of horniness crashed over him, mixing with the shame and dread until he felt dizzy.
"Fuck..." he whispered to himself.
He glanced toward the entrance of the store. No one. The entire mall was still dead silent. Before he could talk himself out of it, Myles set the phone down on the counter and quickly unbuttoned his jeans, shoving them and his boxers down to his thighs.
His cock sprang free, rock hard and already leaking. He wrapped his hand around it and started stroking, slow at first, eyes half-closed as the memory played on loop in his mind.
Julie's face when Phil first pushed inside her. The wet sounds of their bodies slapping together. The way she had moaned louder than she ever had for him. Phil's powerful hips driving between her legs, claiming her right in front of him.
Myles's hand moved faster, squeezing tighter as he leaned against the counter. His breath came in short, ragged gasps. Shame burned in his chest, but it only made him stroke harder. The humiliation twisted together with raw arousal until he couldn't tell which was stronger.
He pictured Phil's broad back flexing as he fucked her, Julie's nails digging into his shoulders, her legs wrapped around his waist so tight. The way she had completely lost control. Myles had never seen her act like that before.
"Shit... Julie..." He groaned quietly, his fist flying up and down his cock.
He was jerking off frantically now in the middle of the abandoned LensCrafters, pants around his thighs, completely exposed. His balls tightened as the pressure built fast. He was so lost in the fantasy -- his girlfriend getting fucked by another man -- that nothing else mattered in that moment. Myles's hand was slick with precum, his grip tight and desperate. The images wouldn't stop flooding his mind. And eventually, he couldn't hold it back any longer.
With a choked groan, he came hard. Thin ropes of cum shot out across the floor of the LensCrafters as his cock pulsed violently in his fist. His knees nearly buckled from the intensity. He kept stroking through it, milking every last drop while shame and arousal twisted violently inside his chest.
For a few seconds afterward, he just stood there panting, pants still around his thighs, staring blankly at the mess he'd made on the abandoned store floor.
"Fuck..." he whispered.
He quickly pulled his pants back up, tucking himself away. There is a half full hand sanitizer bottle on the corner of the desk, which Myles uses to clean his hand. Then he takes one last glance at the TV still playing the local news, then turns and hurries out of the store.
The walk back to the mattress store felt longer than it should have. His legs were shaky, his mind a chaotic storm of guilt, horniness, and confusion. He keeps telling himself it had been a threesome, but deep down he knows that's not true. But the truth sat in his gut like a swallowed stone. That wasn't a threesome. That was a stranger pinning his girlfriend down and taking her like he owned her. And Myles stood there, jaw open, watching every second of it. He prays Julie doesn't see it like that...
When he finally reaches the entrance of the mattress store, his steps slow. Inside, Julie and Phil are both getting dressed.
Julie is pulling her shirt back over her head, her hair messy. Phil stands a few feet away, casually buttoning his security uniform shirt, looking far too relaxed. The air in the store felt thick, intimate in a way that made Myles's chest ache.
Myles stopped in the doorway, Phil's phone still gripped tightly in his hand. He didn't know what to say. He didn't even know how he was supposed to feel.
When Phil spots Myles, a chill rushes through the young buck's spine. He doesn't say anything as the man who fucked his girlfriend walks over to him. He stops an inch away, buttoning the last button on his shirt, and leans in close.
"Thank you for letting me have her," He whispers. "I really needed this. And quite frankly, it seems you two did as well."
Phil pulls back just far enough to look him in the eyes. Then he glances over his shoulder at Julie, who is now crouched down lacing up her sneakers, oblivious for the moment. "But please," Phil continues, almost kindly, "don't be too hard on her. What happened here today... that's just as much your fault as it is hers."
The words land like cold stones in still water. Myles feels them sink deep, spreading ripples through every part of him. His throat tightens. Phil gives him one last lingering look -- half amusement, half challenge -- then grabs his phone out of Myle's hand. He looks down at it. "Thanks for grabbing this buddy. And would you look at that; I told you there wouldn't be any messages from my boss." He chuckles to himself, then walks past Myles out into the hallway.
"You two should skedaddle. No more funny business, I mean it. Get home safely." Phil says. After getting one final look at the couple, he starts walking through the mall.
Julie stands up and walks toward Myles. "Do you remember the way out of here?"
"Yeah," Myles finds his voice. "Come on, follow me."
They leave the mattress store in silence. Their flashlights cut thin white tunnels through the gloom, but the beams feel weaker now, smaller. The same hallways that had once filled Myles with wonder now feel like the ribs of some enormous carcass they are crawling through. Every empty storefront watches them pass. Every broken skylight lets in slanted light that feels accusatory.
Myles keeps a half-step ahead, leading them through the service corridor, out the warped metal door, and across the cracked parking lot. The afternoon sun has shifted lower, painting the weeds between the asphalt slabs in long golden streaks. The chain-link fence rattles as they slip through the gap. Still, not a single word passes between them.
When they reach Julie's Subaru, she stops beside the driver's door. She stands there for a long moment, keys in her hand, staring at the roof of the car like it might offer her some answer.
"Myles..." Her voice cracks on his name. Then the dam breaks.
Julie folds forward against the car, shoulders shaking as harsh, ugly sobs tear out of her. The sound is raw, painful, nothing like the moans he had heard earlier. Myles is around the car in an instant, pulling her into his arms. She collapses against his chest, burying her face in his shirt as the tears come harder.
He holds her tight, one hand cradling the back of her head, the other rubbing slow circles on her back.
"Hey... hey, it's okay," he whispers, even though nothing feels okay. "It's alright, Jules. We're okay. We're going to be okay."
She shakes her head against him, crying harder, her fingers clutching fistfuls of his shirt like she's afraid he'll disappear.
Myles presses his lips to the top of her head, eyes stinging. "We'll work through this. We'll figure it out. I'm not going anywhere. I promise."
The sun keeps sinking. Myles holds her tighter, as if sheer force of will could keep the cracks from spreading any further. "I've got you," he whispers. "I've got you, Jules. Just breathe."
Slowly, her crying begins to ease. The violent tremors turn into quiet, exhausted shudders. She stays buried against his chest, clinging to him like he is the only solid thing left in her world.
Standing there in the empty parking lot with the girl he loves falling apart in his arms, something hardens inside Myles. A quiet, stubborn resolve takes root.
This was a mistake, he thinks. A fucked-up, stupid mistake. But it doesn't have to destroy us.
He pulls back just enough to look down at her tear-streaked face, brushing damp strands of hair away from her eyes with his thumb.
"We're going to be okay," he says, his voice low but steady. "What happened in there... it was crazy. It got out of hand. But we'll deal with it. I'm not letting one afternoon ruin what we have. I swear to you, Julie -- we're going to fix this. We're going to get past it."
He leans down and kisses her forehead, lingering there for a long moment.
"No matter what it takes," he vows quietly, almost more to himself than to her, "I'm going to make this right. We're going to come out stronger on the other side. I promise."
The sun keeps sinking, casting long shadows across the cracked asphalt. Julie doesn't speak, but she nods weakly against his chest and clings to him even tighter.
For now, that is enough.
Phil
Phil walks back through the silent corridors of Glasshaven with a noticeable spring in his step. His boots hit the tile with a confident rhythm that echoes differently now -- lighter, almost cheerful. He hasn't felt this kind of buzzing, satisfied energy in years. Maybe not since before the divorce. There's a warmth in his chest and a smug little grin he can't quite wipe off his face.
Damn, he thinks. I feel young again. He pulls out his phone as he makes his way toward the LensCrafters command post. A new message waits for him. He opens it and lets out a low chuckle.
It's a selfie from Pablo: the man grinning ear to ear, wearing a ridiculous Mickey Mouse hat, with his wife and three kids squeezed in beside him in front of Cinderella's castle. The caption reads: "Living the dream, old man. You're missing out!"
Phil shakes his head, smiling. "Lucky bastard," he mutters, but there's no real envy in it. Right now, he feels like the luckiest man in the whole damn world. He finishes the rest of his shift on autopilot -- one final lazy lap around the perimeter, a few half-hearted door checks, and a quick log entry that says everything is "normal." Normal. What a joke. If only the report could capture even a fraction of what actually happened today.
Before he leaves, his mind drifts back to Julie. He recalls slipping his number into her phone before they both started to get dressed. Myles was still gone, saving it under "Phil - Glasshaven" with a simple instruction: Text me when you want this dick again.
He wonders if she'll actually do it. Part of him expects her to delete the number the second she gets home. To crawl back into her safe little life, play the sweet, loyal college girlfriend, and pretend none of this ever happened. Another part of him -- the cocky, experienced part -- suspects she won't. Not after how hard she came for him. Not after the way her body betrayed her so completely.
He smiles to himself as he locks up. "Bet I'll hear from you sooner than you think, sweetheart."
The drive home is easy. Windows down, radio playing low. When he gets to his apartment, Phil heads straight to the kitchen, still riding that rare, pleasant high.
He makes himself a proper dinner -- fresh corn tortillas warmed on the stove, seasoned ground beef with cumin and chili powder, diced onions, cilantro, lime wedges, and a couple of cold beers. Nothing fancy, but honest. Satisfying.
As he sits at his small table eating tacos, still in his security uniform with the top few buttons undone, Phil leans back in his chair and lets out a long, contented breath. An episode of Family Fued plays on his hanging TV, and Phil can hear Steve Harvey cracking a joke while the audience laughs.
He takes another bite, the flavors sharp and bright on his tongue, and lets his mind wander back through the afternoon. The way Julie had looked bent over that mattress. The desperate little sounds she made when he really gave it to her. The stunned, glassy expression on that kid Myles's face when he walked back in.
Phil chuckles softly to himself, shaking his head.
He wasn't proud of everything he'd said or done today, but he wasn't ashamed either. Life had been quiet for too long. Too predictable. Too gray. Today had color. Heat. Risk. For a few hours, he hadn't felt like a forty-two-year-old divorced security guard circling the same dead building every day. He'd felt dangerous. Alive.
Phil finishes his last taco, crumples the foil, and tosses it into the trash. He sits there a while longer, half-watching Family Feud, letting the rare glow of satisfaction settle deep into his bones. For the first time in months, the apartment doesn't feel quite so quiet.
Eventually he stands, stretches, and heads to the shower, still wearing that faint, cocky smile.
"Bet I'll hear from you sooner than you think, sweetheart."
Three days later life had slipped back into its familiar groove with almost disappointing speed. Mornings still started at eleven-thirty. Eggs and spinach for breakfast. The same fifteen-minute drive to Glasshaven. The same slow laps around the dead mall. The same empty corridors and echoing silence. Pablo was still in Disney World, so his shifts were lonely.
Phil wheeled his grocery cart across the parking lot toward his car, the evening sun warm on his back. Two paper bags filled with ground beef, tortillas, eggs, beer, and a few other staples rested in the cart. He popped the trunk and started loading everything in, moving with the lazy efficiency of a man who had done this exact thing hundreds of times.
His phone buzzed in his pocket.
Phil pulled it out with one hand while sliding the second bag into the trunk. He glanced at the screen, expecting some spam or a message from Pablo.
The name on the notification made him stop cold. Julie. He stared at it for a long second, thumb hovering over the screen. A slow, knowing smile began to creep across his face as he opened the message.
Julie
Julie sat cross-legged on her bed in the dorm room, laptop open in front of her, pretending to work on an essay that had barely moved past the first paragraph in two hours. The screen glowed softly against her face, but her eyes kept drifting, unfocused, toward the window where the evening light was beginning to fade.
The last three days had been a strange, suffocating kind of limbo.
She and Myles were trying -- God, they were trying so hard. He had been gentle with her, almost painfully attentive. They held each other longer than usual. He brought her coffee exactly how she liked it. They watched movies in silence and fell asleep tangled together, as if physical closeness could somehow stitch closed what had been torn open inside Glasshaven. He kept telling her they would get through it. That what happened wouldn't change anything between them. That their relationship was stronger than one terrible, reckless afternoon.
She wanted to believe him. She really did. But every time things got quiet, every time she closed her eyes, Phil came flooding back in. Not his face. Not even his voice. It was his cock.
The thick, heavy weight of it. The way it had stretched her so completely. The deep, deliberate way he fucked her -- like he had all the time in the world and knew exactly what her body needed. She kept remembering how full she had felt. How hard she had come with him inside her. How different it was from anything she had ever experienced with Myles.
The guilt that followed was vicious.
What kind of person am I? she thought, pressing her palms against her eyes. I have a boyfriend who loves me. Who's trying so hard to make this right. And I can't stop thinking about another man's dick.
She hated herself for it. The thoughts felt like a betrayal every single time they surfaced. She would force them away, shower until the water ran cold, throw herself into workouts, bury herself in schoolwork -- anything to drown out the memory of that older man turning her over and ruining her in the best and worst way possible.
But the mind was cruel. And tonight, lying next to Myles while he sleeps peacefully beside her, the memories of that faithful afternoon creep back in. And now a darker, more dangerous question had begun whispering in the back of her mind: Is that what all older men are like?
Did they all know how to touch a woman like that? Did they all last longer, go deeper, read the body better? Or had she simply stumbled into something -- someone -- far more experienced than the boys she had known?
Julie hugged her knees to her chest and stared at the wall, heart beating too fast. Sex was Myles was good, but it didn't leave her fulfilled. Not the way it had with Phil. She knows she shouldn't text him. She had promised herself a hundred times that she wouldn't. That afternoon had been a mistake. A one-time lapse. A moment of insanity she would bury forever.
But her phone sat on the nightstand like a live wire. And deep down, beneath all the guilt and shame and self-loathing, a small, treacherous part of her kept wondering what would happen if she texted him... Stop it, she thought, squeezing her eyes shut. You're disgusting. You have a boyfriend who is doing everything he can to make this right, and you're fantasizing about another man's cock.
But no matter how hard she tried to push the thoughts away, they kept crawling back. Phil's thick cock stretching her open. The way he held her down. The low, gravelly way he spoke when he was buried inside her. She doesn't realize it, but these recurring thoughts are slowly pushing her to submission.
Julie let out a shaky breath and reached for her phone. She opened her contacts, scrolled down slowly, and stared at his name again. Her thumb trembled just above the screen. Then, before she could talk herself out of it, she typed a single word and hit send.
Julie: Hey
The message went through instantly. She locked her phone and dropped it on the bed like it had burned her, pulling her knees back to her chest. For almost a minute, nothing happened. Then the phone vibrated.
Phil - Glasshaven: This is Julie, right?
She bit her lip hard, a nervous flutter running through her stomach as she typed back.
Julie: How did you know? I've never texted you before
Phil - Glasshaven: Lucky guess :-)
Phil - Glasshaven: Not many people have my number. I'm not much of a texter. So there's not a lot of people it could be.
Julie let out a small, shaky laugh despite herself. She could practically hear the smugness in his words.
Julie: you're very sure of yourself
Phil - Glasshaven: I have good reason to be. You still thinking about me, sweetheart?
She hesitated, cheeks burning. Her fingers moved across the screen before her brain could stop them.
Julie: maybe
Phil - Glasshaven: Good. Because I haven't stopped thinking about you. That tight little pussy squeezing me while you moaned into the pillow? Been replaying that shit in my head on loop for three days.
Julie squeezed her thighs together, heat flooding through her body. She hated how fast her breathing had changed.
Julie: you're bad
Phil - Glasshaven: Ditto. But you liked me bad though. Didn't you?
She didn't answer right away. He kept typing.
Phil - Glasshaven: Bet you've been trying to be a good girl since you left the mall. Bet your boyfriend's been extra sweet, trying to make it right. But every time you get intimate with him... it's my cock you're thinking about.
Julie's breath hitched. She hated how right he was.
Phil - Glasshaven: So I'll ask you straight up...
Phil - Glasshaven: You ready for me again, Julie? Because I'll make time whenever you want it. No bullshit. Just say the word and I'll fuck you properly again.
She stared at the message, pulse racing, guilt and arousal warring violently inside her chest.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard.
Julie: are you free tomorrow?
She sent it before she could overthink it, then immediately regretted how eager it sounded. The three little dots appeared almost instantly.
Phil - Glasshaven: Yeah, I'm free. My co-worker is still out of town, so I'm working the shift alone.
Phil - Glasshaven: Come by the mall tomorrow. I'll leave the side service door unlocked. Text me when you're close and I'll meet you at the back.
Julie: okay
Phil - Glasshaven: Good girl
Phil - Glasshaven: I'll make sure we have plenty of time. No rushing this time. I want to take my time with you.
Phil - Glasshaven: Been thinking about bending you over again since you left.
Julie's face burned. She squeezed her thighs together under her blanket, shame and excitement twisting together in her stomach.
Julie: you're terrible
Phil - Glasshaven: You liked how terrible I was though. Don't lie.
Phil - Glasshaven: Text me when you're on your way. I'll be waiting.
Julie locked her phone and dropped it onto the bed beside her. She lay back, staring at the ceiling, heart racing.
She had just made plans to cheat on Myles again. And what made her feel the most guilty was that she was already wet just thinking about it.
What began as one desperate, guilt-ridden text quickly spiraled into a full-blown affair that consumed Julie's thoughts.
For the rest of that first week, while Pablo was still on vacation, they met inside Glasshaven. She would text Phil when she was close, slip through the familiar warped service door, and he would be waiting for her in the shadows. Sometimes he fucked her right there in the mattress store again. Other times he took her in different places -- bent over the old LensCrafters counter, pressed against the cold tile wall near the frozen escalators, or laid out across a display bed while shafts of dying sunlight cut across her naked body.
The sex was devastating. Phil was insatiable and experienced in ways Myles had never been. He fucked her like he had something to prove -- slow and deep one moment, rough and commanding the next. He made her cum so hard she saw stars. He made her moan so loudly it echoed throughout the mall. He talked dirty in her ear the entire time, telling her how amazing her body is, how wet she got for him, how she was "such a good little cheater."
And she loved it.
The guilt never fully went away, but it became tangled with an intoxicating, addictive thrill. Every time she lied to Myles about where she was going, every time she kissed him goodbye and drove straight to the mall to get fucked by another man, something dark and electric lit up inside her. The risk made her soaked before Phil even touched her. Knowing she was betraying Myles while he waited for her back at the dorm only made her cum harder when Phil buried himself inside her.
When Pablo finally returned from vacation, they switched to hotels. Cheap ones on the edge of town where no one asked questions. Phil would pay in cash, fuck her for hours, then send her back to her dorm with fresh hickeys hidden under her clothes and his cum still leaking out of her.
But on the rare days Pablo called out sick, they went back to the mall like addicts returning to their favorite drug. There was something uniquely filthy about spreading her legs for Phil in that abandoned cathedral of consumerism -- the same place where it had all started.
Julie knew she was playing with fire.
