Officer Shifter Attends a Halloween Party.
Officer Shifter's pursuit of a serial annihilator takes him to a Terran Halloween party where he meets officers from the Office of Interdimensional Enforcement. This one may not satisfy your true erotic needs, but it will give nerds and geeks a real scifi shudder.

This is for my personal log. It is the unofficial report of my incursion into Human territory in pursuit of a known serial annihilator. I have never been to the planet called Earth (or Terra) before. I have never even been to the Sol system. I have definitely never before experienced-- or read about-- or even heard about-- the odd cultural Earth phenomenon called Halloween.
Obviously, I had no real intention of attending what the inhabitants of one of the northern continents of that planet call a "Halloween Party." But I was on the trail of someone-- or something-- which was moving from planet to planet, extracting life essence from beings of lesser power. In many cases, so much life essence was extracted that the being ceased to exist.
Normally such fiends are caught rapidly and swiftly brought to justice either by local authorities or, if necessary, the Star Patrol. But this particular miscreant is a shapeshifter and is able to assume whatever identity is convenient for its purposes, including for escaping from Star Patrol Officers.
SPI-- Star Patrol Intelligence-- had category nine information which said that the annihilator was planning to attend a specific Halloween party on Earth. According to reliable sources, he even had his target already picked out. His intended target was a female, referred to as an "Influencer," who has the online name, "Catwoman," and has a significant presence on the social media of planet three in the Sol system.
I checked out her posts. She has a highly symmetrical face which would most likely be considered beautiful by any race's standards. Her body is athletic but with ample curves and full, but not sagging, mammary glands. Humans seem almost unique in the galaxy in that their females display fully distended mammary glands from the time of puberty until very old age. The fullness and firmness of those mammary glands is indicative of prime fertility and thus considered a mark of beauty.
According to reviews on social media, this influencer has "a perfect face, a perfect body, a perfect ass, and a perfect set of tits." That is a direct quote from a male news influencer who repeatedly has said that Catwoman can curl up on his lap anytime.
Catwoman is quite willing to show both her face and her body on her posts. She likes to post images and videos of herself with minimal clothing, teasing the viewers with glimpses of more than that which is normally exposed-- I believe humans call such behavior "flashing." In any case, if you watch all of her videos, I think you would effectively see all of her body. You would have to be able to see the two- or three-frame flash images to see ALL of her body. I can see those frames, and trust me, she shows it all. It is evidently this blatantly sexual behavior which has created such a huge following on social media. And it is also evidently this behavior which has enticed a shapeshifting annihilator to come after her.
Star Patrol Intelligence says that a shapeshifting annihilator is headed for Earth. So Star Patrol is sending me to Earth-- primarily because I am also a shapeshifter. I am a shapeshifting Ophugal from the planet of Ophugalia, the only shapeshifter in all of Star Patrol. My orders were to identify and capture the annihilator-- or at least that is what Commander Vahulla, my superior officer, originally specified. She wasn't very happy when I said that I could do one, or the other, but not both.
To understand why Star Patrol wants a shifter to go after a shifter and why I said what I did, I have to go into some background about shifters-- and me in particular. Any good Star Patrol officer can capture a shifter... if they have the proper restraints and force fields. There are several of my solid fellow officers who have done exactly that over the years. If you know you are dealing with a shifter, you merely encase them in a force field of the proper frequency. Once that is done, they cannot escape even if they assume a vaporous form.
But first, you have to identify them. Star Patrol Officer O'Donald captured a shifter jewel thief a few years ago by just plain dumb luck-- his good luck and the shifter's very, very bad luck. Officer O'Donald was guarding a very famous, and very precious, and very expensive, royal jewel which was on loan to a museum on the planet Campanula Four, when, much to his surprise and amazement, he watched himself walk through the security checkpoints leading to the display.
Officer Boomaly, a rather large, tentacled being from Isarmia Seven, was supposed to be on duty that day, and Officer O'Donald was supposed to be on the other side of the planet doing some boring surveillance. But the previous day, Officer Boomaly began sneezing and wheezing as soon as he took up his station near the jewel. Apparently, the Isarmians are allergic to whatever composed this particular famous jewel, and the only other Star Patrol Officer on planet, Officer O'Donald, was summoned to take his place. After the capture of this notorious shapeshifting thief, Officer O'Donald received the Star Patrol Award of High Merit for what was, in actuality, a quirk of fate and luck.
Luck often resides with the Star Patrol, but not always. And Star Patrol was going to need more than just luck to capture this particular annihilating fiend. We needed someone who could see through the disguise, or at least realize that a disguise was being used. In my quick attempt at background research before being sent to Earth in a shield ship, I came across a human saying, "It takes one to know one." That saying is very close to an Ophugal saying from my home planet which says, "A shifter always recognizes a shifter."
It is very difficult to explain to a "solid" how such recognition happens. And I am sorry if I offend anyone by that term, but "non-shifter" doesn't seem right. Defining someone by what they are not is offensive to many beings. I do not like being called a non-Solid. I am a Shifter. Shifters are able to transform their bodies. Solids are... solid. Their physical self is immutable. Another Earth saying comes to mind, "You have to play the cards you are dealt." Solids are solid. Shifters are shifters.
I have a great deal of difficulty identifying the clan or planet of origin of various Solids when I first meet them. But among the Solids, it is often possible for them to tell the planet of origin of other apparently identical solids by their eye movements... or their smell... or if you can see auras, by their aura.
For me, it isn't a smell, as such, or an aura, which I cannot see anyway. Instead, it is a... flicker. A shifter does not just permanently change into another shape or being. If the shape is not something that is natural to the shifter, then the assumed shape must be renewed constantly. An ultra-high-speed video of a shifter that is slowed waaay down will reveal the flicker if a person knows what to look for. Finding a shifter amongst a solid population would require recording everyone at very high speed and then slowing down the video and carefully studying it.
Such technology has captured a few shifters who have tried to sneak into very high-security areas, but it isn't feasible for finding a shifter in a large segment of the population. To do that, you need another shifter.
A shifter viewing another shifter is also flickering at its own extremely high rate of speed. But one shifter's flicker is "out of sync" with another shifter, and that creates a harmonic in the image that is visible in some fashion. Other shifters, to me, look slightly fuzzy or out of focus. And for me-- as well as all Ophugalians-- that is not only when I am shifted. Such flicker recognition in our native state is unique to Ophugalians because our brain has evolved and adapted to the refresh rate of our shifted self by continuously cycling at the same frequency even when we are reverted to our normal selves. As far as I know, none of the other shifter races do this. Perhaps the saying from Ophugalia should be, "An Ophugalian always recognizes a shifter."
If I shifted so that I could get near the annihilator, I would recognize him by his flicker, but he would also recognize me by my flicker and would flee before he... or she... or it... could be captured. For this to work, I had to remain in my natural state. And my natural state is a sentient bird less than one meter tall with no prehensile digits. I did an image search of myself against Earth databases, and it identified me as a male Snow Goose. I wasn't pleased with that identification. I think I am larger than a Snow Goose, even if I look somewhat like one. At least it said I was vicious if provoked.
Since I look like a standard Earth creature, I wouldn't be seen as some alien being at the party, which was good. But how could a big, white goose walk around a Halloween party unnoticed? I discussed this with a couple of other Star Patrol officers and one of them, a Humanoid female from Atlantis Eleven, said, "Mother Goose could carry you." After some additional research into this mythical Earth character, Commander Vahulla added Officer Donatella to the task force.
When we arrived at Earth, the other three humanoid officers in the task force changed into what were considered typical informal Earth clothing. They were wearing what the Earthers call bluejeans and polo shirts with a small backpack to hold their equipment-- including restraint forcefield projectors tuned to the proper frequency.
I expected Officer Donatella to dress like the picture of Mother Goose we had seen during our research. In the picture, Mother Goose was a rather plump old woman riding a huge goose. She had big square glasses, very curly hair, a dark green, pointed hat with a large brim, a heavy green dress which reached down to cover her shoes, and large white "cartwheel ruffles" or "ruffs" that appeared to be part of the dress, on her neck and both wrists.
That is NOT what Officer Donatella was wearing. She did have a dark green, pointed hat with a large brim, but rather than sitting squarely on her head and holding back her curls, it sat slightly to the side, almost covering her right ear. Her deep black hair flowed in shiny waves over her head and down to her shoulders. There were no glasses on her face, but there were large, white, cartwheel ruffles on her neck and both wrists. The ruffs, however, were not attached to a heavy green dress. In fact, they were not attached to anything... because Officer Donatella was not wearing a dress.
Instead, Officer Donatella was wearing an emerald green corset over a darker green, one-piece outfit that she referred to as "granny panties." Her breasts, which were bare beneath the corset, were pushed up by the tightly-laced covering and seemed larger and more full than they were in her normal dress. Her legs were covered with black, very shiny, translucent stockings of some sort. Her arms were covered by black silk-looking gloves which began well up past her elbows and protruded through the white ruffs on each wrist. The gloves-- if you can call them that-- covered her palms and the back of her hands, but left her fingers bare.
The three male, humanoid officers stood staring at her with their mouths open. "Didn't you do your research?" she asked brightly. "Almost all of the young female costumes for Terran Halloween parties are sexy something... Sexy Nurse... Sexy Teacher... Sexy Policewoman... and, of course, Sexy Mother Goose.
One of the officers, I think it was Officer Franklin, stuttered out, "Well, nobody is going to notice Officer Shifter." Then they all laughed nervously.
"How can we be sure that this shifter thing will be at this particular party?" Officer Douglas asked.
Officer Michael, a Star Patrol Intelligence Officer, gave a huff and then began very slowly, "Because, dumbass, he stole a Galaxy Touring Class space hopper from some rich bastard who was tired of getting his stuff stolen. It was tagged with four different locator beacons. That ship is here. The annihilator is going to stay close to his ship so he can make a quick getaway and we know exactly where that ship is." He paused and then muttered, "Luckily for us, he only removed three of the four beacons."
Officer Franklin, also an Intelligence Officer, added firmly, "He likes to strike at parties and the biggest party in the area is at the old historic Margrave Mansion. His ship is near there; his intended target will be there; he'll be there; we'll be there; Officer Shifter will point him out; and we will make the nab."
"You make it sound so very easy," I said calmly. "But keep this in mind," I added firmly, "nothing ever, ever goes according to plan."
Just as we got to the front door, Officer Donatella pulled a blue cape from her purse and draped it over my back, tying it around my neck. She then put a blue, puffy cap with a white lace fringe on my head.
"What is that for?" I almost hissed at her.
"Trust me," she replied as we stepped into the party. "It will make you blend in."
She was right about the sexy costumes. There were sexy everythings, everywhere. And there were also apparently just as many drunken, not-so-sexy males hitting on everything that showed a little flesh.
One such A-hole reached up from behind and stroked Officer Donatella's thigh. She spun around and, suddenly there was a loud goose honk, and a strange voice said, "Hey, buster, costume is not consent."
Either the surprise of that or the fact that Officer Douglas stepped between them and glared angrily at the drunk caused the man to stumble rapidly over toward the bar.
"I didn't know you were a ventriloquist," Officer Douglas said, and Officer Donatella replied, "I learned it as a kid and just kept it up. It comes in handy sometimes."
"Like when you want to put words in my mouth," I muttered softly.
"Or when I want you to appear to be just a dumb goose," she replied even more softly.
She looked around the room and then asked, "See anyone interesting?"
"No flickers," I replied, "but there is something off about the woman in the black catsuit."
"What do you mean?" asked Officer Franklin, who had come up behind us.
"There is no flicker," I replied. "Her image is very crisp, but there is something about her. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't believe she is human."
"Wait a minute," Officer Michael said. "That's Mistress Elizabeth."
"Who?" Officer Donatella asked.
"The influencer," Officer Michael said quickly, "the one everyone calls Catwoman... the one our annihilator is after."
"She's not the only non-human," I said softly.
"What do you mean?" Officer Donatella asked in almost a whisper.
"I count seven people here that I don't believe are human," I replied, "four women and three men. All of the women are extremely beautiful. All of the men look like they exercise nine hours every day.... In other words, they aren't real."
"Oh, great," Officer Michael said with a huff, "now we have eight shapeshifters to deal with.
"I don't think they are shapeshifters as such," I explained quietly. "This just isn't their natural state. It is like they have two, or perhaps more, natural states and can switch between those shapes."
Officer Donatella said in a cheery voice, "So we have only one shapeshifter-- and seven shapeswitchers to deal with."
I started to reply, but instead a loud honk appeared to come out of my mouth. A very handsome man dressed as a Greek god was standing next to Officer Donatella.
"That is a very good ventriloquists dummy," he said with a smile.
Officer Donatella smiled back and I-- or she-- or whatever-- said in a high-pitched, raspy voice, "You wouldn't believe everything this goose can do."
She leaned down as if listening to me, then raised her head, smiled, and said, "He says you aren't human."
The Greek god looked slightly shocked and then quickly scanned all five of us with a hand scanner that had been hanging over his shoulder by a soft, white rope. "Don't get in our way, officers," he said very firmly. "We have spent years setting this trap. If you interfere, you will answer to the Office of Interdimensional Enforcement."
I had never heard of them, but this was my mission so I spoke in my natural voice and said, "Star Patrol is pursuing a shapeshifting serial annihilator. This may be our only chance to capture it."
"Almost right, Officer Shifter," he said with a smile. "You are pursuing an INTERDIMENSIONAL shapeshifting serial annihilator. And there is no way that your force fields or anything else you possess can capture him." He smiled again and said in a firm but very pleasant voice, "So, stay out of our way."
"What do we do?" asked Officer Michael, and Officer Donatella said in her goose voice, "Stay out of their way."
We decided to sit at a table near the doorway through which we had just seen the influencer disappear. If it was like the other doorways on that wall, it led to a small bedroom. A few moments later, a male human came out of the door. He looked exhausted but was smiling broadly. Just a moment later, a different human male approached the door. He was wearing a short green tunic, a long green cape, some sort of plastic armor on the fronts of his legs, and an astoundingly ugly black mask which totally covered his face.
"What is that?" I muttered, almost under my breath.
Officer Michael, who was standing beside me, said, "That's Doctor Doom." When all of the other officers turned to gape at him, he sputtered, "I was assigned investigating recent Terran films. In what is called the Marvel universe, Doctor Victor Werner von Doom is the very evil monarch of the fictional country of Latveria, which is located on the other large land mass in the northern hemisphere of this planet."
"Humans are weird," said a soft goose voice that seemed to come from me.
I turned to Officer Donatella and said in a very loud whisper, "Stop doing that."
Officer Frederick huffed and said softly, "But you-- she-- whatever-- is right. Humans are weird."
"So are these interdimensional beings," I said softly as I poked my beak in the direction of the influencer's doorway. Doctor Doom was already leaving. His mask was in his hand; there was a very broad smile on his face; and he looked physically like he had just run a double marathon.
"That was quick," said Officer Michael.
"Perhaps time runs differently in their dimension," said Officer Donatella.
"That would explain a lot," Officer Franklin said in almost a whisper.
Officer Michael started to say something, but Officer Donatella made a quick motion with her hands, indicating that everyone should shut up. Someone new was approaching the door. He was dressed in a costume which covered almost all of him. There was a form-fitting yellow jumpsuit which accented his broad shoulders and massive chest. He wore a weird yellow hood with a black mask that covered the upper half of his face and made it look like his eyes were in the depths of large black bat ears. There were blue boots, a blue swimsuit-like garment, and blue gloves from which extended three large, curved knives.
As he tapped on the door with his extended knives, Officer Michael said quietly, "That's Wolverine."
Before he could say anything else, I said firmly, "That is the annihilator. What little I can see of his face and arms is flickering."
"What do we do?" asked Officer Franklin, almost frantic.
"We wait," I said firmly. "And if the Office of Interdimensional Enforcement fails, the Star Patrol will step in and attempt to capture this being."
"Do you think we can do that?" Officer Donatella asked softly.
"Not a chance," I replied, "but that is our mission and that is what we will attempt."
A soft female voice sounded behind me. "Officer Shifter?" she said. "Would you and your party please come in."
I turned my head around. Mistress Elizabeth was standing in the doorway to the room. She was wearing a black sleep robe with absolutely no sides. Her alabaster white skin almost shone where it was visible... and a lot of it was very visible. She turned and made a bowing gesture, beckoning us to enter. How she moved without exposing everything is a mystery, but that mystery is the least of things that may have to be left unexplained.
I felt like we were being ushered to a table in a restaurant as Officer Donatella quickly carried me through the doorway with Officers Franklin, Frederick, and Michael hurrying in behind us.
The interdimensional female gestured toward the bed and said, "I believe this is what you came for?"
Laying on the bed was something which looked like a small gargoyle from atop a medieval cathedral except it was stretched out, it was brown, it was leathery, and it was dead.
"My name is not Mistress Elizabeth," the beautiful woman said quietly. "Nor is it Catwoman, but my true name is not important. You couldn't pronounce it anyway. When I couple with a human male, I receive a very small amount of life energy. I don't need that energy, but it is very enjoyable." She smiled slightly and added almost dreamily, "very, very enjoyable."
She composed herself and said in a more normal voice, "I, and the three female officers with me, are what Terran myths call a Succubus. The three male officers with me are what has been called an Incubus." She shook her head and laughed slightly. Then she said, "Actually, that is wrong. A Succubus is one like me who has become addicted to the pleasure we receive when we draw life essence from a human male. That addiction causes the addicted one to pursue more and more life essence until they start draining every human they couple with dry. An Incubus is just a male addict who draws life essence from a female." She shrugged and said, "Same addiction, different plumbing."
She pointed to the small, leathery gargoyle on the bed and said in an obvious tone of revulsion, "And then you have him." She looked like she wanted to spit on the ground. "He wasn't addicted to the pleasure he was receiving." She again shook her head. "I don't think he even received pleasure from the transfer of life into his body," she continued. "Instead, he received pleasure from the physical act of taking that life from another."
She looked at Officer Shifter and then said flatly, "That violates the laws of our dimension... and yours."
"How did you... neutralize him?" Officer Franklin asked, staring at the leathery body lying on the bed.
"The problem with establishing a life connection with another being is that it goes both ways," she began. "If you don't set up barriers against it, and if you open up a pathway to someone more powerful than yourself, your life-- and all of the stored life in your body-- can be drained away."
She pointed to what appeared to be a large water jug filled with a milky fog sitting on the floor and then continued, "You have no idea how horrible a life force tainted by such evil tastes. I expelled it from my body as soon as I was sure that I had it all. We will take it back into our dimension, and it will be properly dealt with."
"And that?" I asked, pointing at the gargoyle with my beak.
"Take it with you," she said with a bright smile. "It will prove that you annihilated your annihilator. Your dimension can feel safe and relieved."
"While beings from your dimension graze on the life in our dimension?" I said rather bitterly.
She smiled at me and then said, "We only lightly graze, and only during certain times of the year when belief is great enough for us to cross dimensions and participate in rituals such as this Halloween party." She shivered slightly as if a cold draft had suddenly blown across her semi-naked body. Then she said flatly, "You wouldn't believe how much power it has taken to hold a portal open long enough to entice the annihilator to this party. No one individual has access to that much interdimensional power. It has even been a great strain on the resources of the Office of Interdimensional Enforcement."
She began to fade slightly and became almost transparent. She waved her hand as if pointing to all of us and said, "I am impressed by the bravery of the Star Patrol. You were ready to go against this creature if it overpowered us." She shrugged her shoulders and said sadly, "You would have all been destroyed, of course, but I respect your dedication to your mission."
She faded to the point of looking like a light projection on smoke. Then, just before she disappeared completely, she almost shouted, "See you next Halloween!"
We stood there looking at each other for few moments, and then Officer Michael said, "What do we do now?"
Officer Donatella said firmly, "We take that... thing... back to Star Patrol headquarters and report that our mission was successful."
"How do we get that thing out of here?" Officer Michael asked, his eyes wide open in fear... or shock... or anxiety.
"You just carry it out," Officer Donatella said firmly. She quickly set me down on a chair and then picked up the gargoyle from the bed. With a little effort, she folded his leathery corpse into a sitting position. Then she put it firmly in Officer Michael's arms.
"Hold it like I have been holding Officer Shifter," she said, "and stay very close to me. If necessary, I will add the voice to convince people it is a ventriloquist's dummy."
Officer Michael didn't look too sure of things as he pulled the gargoyle close to his chest and moved to stand almost touching Officer Donatella.
"That will get us out of here, but how do we explain all this to Star Patrol?" Officer Franklin asked as he looked around bewildered.
"I guess that falls to me," I said, looking up at Officer Donatella and daring her to put other words in my mouth. "It is technically my mission. I will write a full report and submit it to Commander Vahulla, who will scream and yell and edit the entire report down to three or four sentences like she always does. She says I get on her nerves. She also says that she doesn't believe half of what I put in my reports."
"I think," said Officer Donatella, "that we should invite her to return with us next year to a Terran Halloween party. I think she would have a wonderful time. She would make a very sexy witch."
Officer Frederick chuckled and said, "Officer Shifter, I think you had better be very careful with your spelling if you put that in your report."
I thought of several different things that I could say in reply, but decided that "Happy Halloween" was perhaps the best response.
This completes my informal report for my personal log. I don't know how much of this I will actually submit to Commander Vahulla. I don't think she will believe me. She still doesn't believe my report about Spacer Bob's Fantasy Tours.
