When Souls Mate

Riya entered her home with Ajay. She can feel that Chetan, her husband, is already there and watching her. Riya held Ajay by hand and pinned him to the column on the wall. Then she stuck her body to him and pushed herself in his embrace. Ajay felt as if he was possessed. She kissed Ajay and said: "I can feel you, your lips and your smell Chetan", and then continued to kiss him.

But why was she calling him Chetan?

6 months ago:

Riya and Chetan were married a few months ago and settled in their new row house in a relatively quiet locality in a small town. With their jobs, house and life looking settled, love and life looked blissful.

Until one night!

Both Riya and Chetan were lost in love making when the earthquake struck. In the first 3 seconds when the quake was of light intensity, both were so lost in orgasmic bliss that they thought that their heads were just spinning with their heights of passion. They did not try to escape. But when they opened their eyes with the quake intensifying, it was too late.

The beams and columns fell in a way that they held the rubble above them, but yet put enough pressure on Chetan's body to cause him multiple fractures and arterial ruptures. Chetan in t=his last moment, covered Riya and took a promise from Riya: "Riya, promise me that you will live your life, to the fullest. You will not let my sacrifice go waste"

He closed his eyes when Riya said: "Yes." With a final scream, he stopped breathing and closed his eyes. A voice echoed in Riya's head when she was still half conscious: "With these walls of this house, I will always protect you Riya!"

The rescue workers removed the rubbles of houses, one by one. Then they discovered Chetan's body lying upside down. They covered him with the blanket lying nearby to protect the dignity of the dead and lifted him. Then they found Riya lying under Chetan. Still breathing. Unconscious. Covered her with the bed sheet she was lying on, to protect the dignity of the living! They immediately loaded each dead and the living in the line of ambulances one by one and sent them to the nearest government hospital.

3 months ago:

The municipality has just finished rebuilding the small quake proof row houses of the poor. Riya has just recovered from the physical wounds. Getting the counselling to start recovering from her mental trauma. Contacting her old workplace to restart her living.

She entered the house, saw Chetan's picture hung on a pillar in a corner. She just went and hugged the pillar and closed her eyes. Chetan's voice echoed in her head again: "live your life, Riya. I will protect you Riya!" She just thought that her memories are playing with her, when she is feeling really sad.

2 months ago:

Bhura, a street urchin, was keeping an eye on her. He entered the house forcefully, when Riya entered her house, just after returning from work.

Riya was aghast. Too shocked to react. Bhura pushed her near the pillar that had Chetan's picture mounted. Not knowing what to do, she rested her back on the pillar.

Bhura decided to pick the kitchen knife near the dining table, to threaten her into submission. The big mistake was, as he came close to Riya, he rested his palm on the pillar and pointed the knife towards her.

As he raised the knife, something possessed him. His hands started towards his own crotch. He tried to resist, but looked like he was slowly losing to the possessor. One stab, 2 stabs, and he let out a scream in frustration.

The scream as if freed him from the possessor. He immediately ran outside and called out for help.

Sub Inspector of police, Balwant recorded everyone's statement. Riya's statement matched with what Bhura said, with a different style of narration. Bhura additionally accused Riya of being a witch, who first attracted the devil in him to commit an offence, and then unleashed bad spirits on him to harm himself.

Balwant just sent Bhura for psycho-analysis, to make sure that Bhura is sane before filing the charge sheets.

1 month ago:

Ajay regularly started dropping Riya to her home. Of all the people who offered help, Riya's gut feeling only let Ajay help her. Her well wishers were concerned after the Bhura incident.

Riya, as usually, just hugged the pillar that made her think as if she was talking to Chetan. Chetan's voice echoed in her head again: "I can feel you only through someone Riya!"

At first, Riya was shocked with those words she thought she must have imagined. But after a long thought, she took it as Chetan's soul's wish and devised a plan.

Back to present:

Riya entered her home with Ajay. She can feel that Chetan, her husband, is already there and watching her. Riya held Ajay by hand and pinned him to the column on the wall. Ajay felt something possessed him. Ajay and Riya, both were attracted to each other. Ajay thought that it was his love for Riya that made him feel possessed. He didn't even notice at that time that Riya just called him Chetan.

Throughout their love making, for Riya, Ajay's kiss, sweat, arms and everything felt exactly like Chetan. She did not miss this chance to be with Chetan even after he was gone, and savoured every moment in her memory.

Ajay was lying next to Riya after love making. He recalled everything that just happened to him. He was trying to feel Riya's body, but he felt as if he was not feeling her at all. He was still feeling possessed, even after he calmed down after the hot session.

A frustrated Ajay let out a gasp, a subdued scream, and things changed. He felt as if he had been de-possessed. He felt in control of himself again. He dressed up, said his goodbye and left. The goodbye kiss felt like Ajay's lips instead of Chetan's to Riya. Leaving Riya in two minds.

The next evening:

Ajay dropped Riya at her home, but refused to come inside, Riya asked him to wait outside for a few minutes. She packed all her essentials in a bag, and just before she left, she hugged the pillar and said to Chetan: "I am not an abuser, Chetan. I just cannot use Ajay. I will be living life to the fullest, just as I promised."

Once outside, she told Ajay: "Lets go to our home Ajay, where your love possesses me." and quickly went for a ride to live with him.

1 month later:

Sub inspector Balwant was feeling as if he was watching a repeat telecast of a boring sitcom. This time Riya was replaced by her tenant Mina. Bhura was replaced by another goon Raju. Raju attacked Mina, and self harmed as Bhura did. This case too, was sent for psycho-analysis.

Balwant called Riya to give her updates about this new case that happened in a house owned by her. Riya on other hand was blissfully asleep in Ajay's arms. Feeling Ajay and only Ajay. Balwant messaged her, and Riya thanked Chetan in her mind for saving yet another girl from a possible trauma.
