Jade was so happy to finally be done with her shift. The first thing she did when she got to the locker room was to take off those short heels she was required to wear as part of her uniform. This is also why after some of her shifts she drives for a rideshare as a side hustle.

“You could join me at my other job,” said Bethany.

“You keep asking me that. Do you get a commission if your club hires me?”

“I’m just trying to help. You know, with a body like yours, you could be making a lot of money.”

Jade sighed. “I’ll think about it.”

Bethany also worked part-time as a stripper at a local club. She made a lot of money there, but strip clubs don’t have vacation time or healthcare benefits, so she kept on with her waitressing job at the casino. She also needed something to show the government where her income was coming from since stripping pays only in cash. This took out a big chunk of what remained of her savings. Even after she drove her rideshare job throughout the night, she didn’t make half as much to cover her losses. When she got home at the end of the night, she realized she finally had enough of this and decided to take Bethany’s offer to work with her at the club. The next morning, after breakfast, she called her about getting her an audition.

“Sure, I can do that,” said Bethany. “But I know you don’t really want to do this, so I think I have something better for you.”

“What is it?” Jade asked.

“It’s sort of like stripping already, but doing something you’re already doing,” said Bethany. “How would you like to be a topless server at a poker party?”

Bethany explained to her how she and a few others from the club are being paid to serve drinks while topless at a private party. This was for a private poker party at a penthouse suite at a hotel nearby the casino. Bethany had done this a few times before and swore it was a decent way to make some extra money just serving drinks like they were already, only they’re naked on top.

The party’s organizer was one server short and asked Bethany to find someone on short notice and she thought of Jade. The games started at around 11am that morning. The idea was for everyone to leave at an appropriate time so they could enjoy Vegas at night. The penthouse had three tables set in the parlor area, each one having its own dealer. There was also a large bar on one side with a bartender and two big men around for security. Bradley assured everyone the players were mostly good men who are just coming for a good time, but the security was just a precaution. They also had replacement dealers and bartenders to give them breaks when needed. The game runners also handled all the money that came in. With the amount of money Jade saw being handled she thought there should be more security, but Bethany told her the games were protected. They could transfer money to the game runners to stay in longer, but they already had too much money so they called it quits. Fortunately, that guy had a room in this hotel, so they just took him there and let him sleep it off.

Some of the players were taking breaks from playing and hanging outside on the balcony smoking cigars and having a drink. The servers didn’t have to go out there to serve drinks since they would be too exposed there. But some didn’t mind going out there because the balcony was facing a field, so it was unlikely they would be seen by anyone.

Jade didn’t mind going out there to serve drinks. She was really getting used to just walking around naked. The men still made comments to her, but she let it go. She figured this was all good practice if she was going to be a stripper after all of this. She saw Austin standing by himself to the far right, just staring out to the sky. She had a whiskey she was sure he would enjoy on her tray and went to see if he wanted it.

“Hey there, it’s my good luck charm,” said Austin.

Jade wasn’t sure if it was entirely true. She did notice he won plenty of hands when she came around but also a few times when he lost as well. She was sure it was just good timing on her part and Austin was just a good card player.

“Would you like a whiskey?” she asked.

“I sure do,” he said and took the glass off her tray.

She was about to walk away before he stopped her.

“Hey, stay with me for a few minutes; I could use the company of a pretty lady like you,” he said.

“I need to get back to work.”

“It’s only a few minutes; I’m sure they won’t mind,” he said. “What’s your name, little lady? I’d like to call you something else besides that.”

“Jade,” she replied.

“I’m Austin,” he said. “I know it’s a typical Texan name, but that’s what my parents named me.”

“I like that name; it suits you.”

“Thank you,” he said.

They talked for a little while. He asked Jade a few questions about her and was surprised to learn she used to be a card dealer at a casino he used to frequent. There could’ve been a chance he sat at one of her tables back then. They also suspect she served him drinks at her regular cocktail waitress job. He also couldn’t help asking how she got this job and explained how her friend got it for her and how the money was too good to pass up. She skipped the part about how she decided to do this because of her money troubles because she didn’t want him to feel sorry for her.

She asked a little about him and he told her how his family originally made its money in oil but now makes more in the rising tech industry in Texas. They also own a lot of farm land and horse ranches, but that came later on. He was actually the company’s chief of operations and helped improve the company’s stock portfolio. Jade was impressed; originally, he just seemed like a rich guy who liked spreading his money around. He was kind of like that; he was a fun guy, but he was actually smarter and more professional than he seemed to be.

“How old are you?”

“24.”

Autin laughed a little.

“I’m a pro at cards because of how good I can read people," he said. “How old are you really?”

“I’m actually 29,” she replied. “They said if anyone asks to say five years younger because being almost thirty isn’t sexy.”

“Screw that, I think it's sexy.”

By evening, more players began to leave. Most of them lost, but they were rich so it didn’t hurt them as much. A few did leave with some winnings, but not as much as they hoped. By then, there were only four players left, including Austin. Because of this, many staff members began to leave since there was no point in them being there if there weren’t that many players to cater to.

By then, there were three servers left; Jade, Bethany, and a redhead named Jessica. The others could’ve stayed if they wanted to, but they felt like they made enough in tips already, so they left. Jade remained because she wanted to earn as much as she could. She also stayed because she enjoyed seeing Austin play; his Texan swagger made the game more fun to watch.

At one point, Jade and Bethany decided to go on break to get something to eat since it was almost dinner time. The game runners brought in some catered food earlier for everyone so they could stay and gamble and also to feed the staff. They were only gone for half an hour; by the time they came back, there were two players left; Austin and a much older man named Arthur. What’s even more surprising was that the third topless server, Jessica, was sitting on Arthur’s lap.

They asked Bradley why Jessica was sitting on the player's lap, and apparently Arthur asked her to as a good luck charm. She asked Bradley if it was alright, and he said it was fine. The games were pretty much over anyway, so he allowed it.

Apparently, it was working because Arthur was winning so much the other two players had to leave in the short time she and Bethany were on their breaks. Austin was still in the game, but he had fewer chips than Jade had seen from before her break. He seemed stressed, so Jade brought him another whisky that he enjoyed.

“Where have you been, Jade? I needed my good luck charm around; I’m losing my shirt here,” he said as he took the whiskey from her.

“I got the good luck charm here, boy,” said Arthur, referring to the topless woman sitting on his lap. “I’m getting quite fond of her; I might keep her and make her my sixth ex-wife.”

Jade watched as Austin lost the next four hands they were dealt. He had good cards, but Arthur kept getting better ones. Jade was really hoping he would win; she was getting quite fond of him and Arthur was a blustering buffoon. She also felt bad for Austin because he was calling her his good luck charm, but she didn’t seem to be working for him anymore.

Austin signaled for another drink and Jade brought it over to him. He was so stressed from his losses he drank up the whiskey incredibly fast. When she got him the next drink, he slowed down drinking it this time.

She went to ask Bradley if it was alright, and of course, he said it was fine as long as she kept smiling no matter how much Austin won or lost. “Ok, I’ll do it,” she said. “But you have to promise me to tip my friend Bethany very well since she’ll be working a lot more now.”

“That sounds fair.”

“And you have to let me wear your cowboy hat,” she said. She thought it would be fun to wear his hat while sitting topless on his lap.

Austin laughed. “Sure, you could wear it. Hell, if we win, I’ll let you keep it.”

“What do you think?” he quietly asked Jade. “I’m just not feeling it, so I thought I’d get your opinion on this hand?”

Being a former card dealer, Jade got a good sense of what the cards may hold for each player even though she wasn’t playing.

“I think you got the better hand here; this is a good win for you,” she said.

She was wrong and Arthur gloated as he took his winnings. Austin wasn’t upset with Jade about it; he told her it was still up to him to make the call if he should fold or not. Regardless, she still felt bad about being wrong and costing him more of his poker chips.

The next hand Austin got were basically the same thing and again he didn’t know what to do. Arthur was raising the bet, which made Austin nervous. He didn’t ask Jade for her opinion this time, but she could see he was having trouble making a decision, so she decided to say something about it on her own.

“You should call; your hand is good this time,” she said to him.

“I’m not sure. I may have to fold this one.”

Jade couldn’t blame him for not taking her advice this time, but she was definitely sure Austin could win this hand if he went for it. She decided to give him some extra incentive to call.

“I’m sure you could win this, but just in case you don’t, I’ll give you a constellation price,” she said. “If you lose this hand because of me, I’ll have sex with you.”

Austin was stunned by what Jade was offering him. Jade could tell he was intrigued by this offer because the half-chub in his pants quickly turned into a steel rod.

On the very last hand, Arthur did something very unexpectedly and went all in on whatever he had left. Austin was sitting on a pair of aces and eights, also known as the dead man’s hand. It was supposedly the unluckiest hand a card player could have ever since the legendary lawman Wild Bill Hickock was killed during a poker game while holding that hand. Despite his win streak, Austin was seriously considering folding his hand based on this hand he was holding.

Jade could tell Autin was considering folding this hand simply based on the dead man’s hand he was holding. As a former card dealer, Jade knew about this superstition and knew it was ridiculous because she had seen many players win with that hand.
